Tis Pussy Willow Season. Confessedly, these are faux branches but they promise not to shed their fuzzy little heads and will return every spring from your safe-keeping. We do have an abundance of them in our little pink cottage should one wish to have an everlasting bouquet to bring forth each March. Sold by branch For those of you who don’t know the “Legend of the Pussy Willow”: In an old Polish legend, many springs ago, a mother cat was crying at the bank of the river where her kittens were drowning. The willow at the river's edge longed to help her, so it swept its long graceful branches into the waters to rescue the tiny kittens who had fallen into the river while chasing butterflies. The clinging fur babies were delivered safely to mama cat on the banks of the water. Thus, the curious bough is christened.

Produced by male plants, they are on display in early spring before the foliage emerges. The lush foliage is handsome with bluish-gray leaves that are silky underneath. This mounded willow makes an ideal focal point in the winter garden, thanks to its arching habit and remarkable display of catkins. As the story goes...long ago, a mother cat was crying at the bank of the river. Her kittens had been chasing butterflies and had fallen in the water and were unable to swim. The Willows at the river's edge longed to help her, so they swept their long graceful branches into the waters to rescue the tiny kittens. The kittens gripped on so tightly to their branches that every spring the Willows sprout tiny, furry buds at their tips where the tiny kittens clung to safety. #ProPlantTips for Care French Pussy Willow tree flowers best in full sun, but will tolerate partial or light shade. Ensure it receives at least 4 hours of sunlight a day. It adapts to most soil types, including wet soils. Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Apply a 3-inch layer of mulch around the tree, pulling it back from the trunk. In early spring, it's time to harvest your catkins. Select a few of the thickest branches to remove completely back to the main trunk. Willows are very forgiving of pruning. You can use them as shrubs, if you allow the lower branches to remain. Prune them up as a single leader tree-form, if you choose. Or, control the height by trimming all the branches back to the ground after flowering. To force branches in winter, select a few of the interior branches and trim them back in late winter. Make your cuts at a 45--degree angle just above a swelling bud that faces outward. Bring them indoors and place in a vase filled with warm water. Change water daily, and watch as the buds start to swell into those beloved "fussies". Make the most of your space. Order French Pussy Willow trees, and start your growing season right every year thereafter.

I've always loved pussy willows. When I was a little girl, I pretended they were tiny kittens. Their little beds were made of walnut shell halves. I would put them to bed between flower petals. I made tiny houses of twigs for them. In my child's eyes, they would purr and snuggle in my fingers. Sometimes they still do.

Cutting Edge Stencils offers the best wall stencils for DIY décor - stencils expertly designed by professional decorative artists Janna Makaeva and Greg Swisher with over 25 years of painting experience. We are the most reputable stencil company that stands behind its high quality product. We are the largest and the oldest stencil shop on Etsy and are honored to have your 100% positive feedback. Stencil returns are easy and there is no restocking fee! Single overlay stencil. Design: 12" x 32.5" If you compare our stencil thickness, size, design quality and prices, you will be amazed at the value that Cutting Edge Stencils offer! Stencil features an easy registration system, just use parts of the previously painted design to align the stencil, check for level and continue. This gives you a seamless "wallpaper" look. Don't worry about super perfect alignment: in the end your eye will never ever notice the discrepancy. Try this stencil with our new Clip-on Stencil Level, (sold separately) and discover how easy it is to achieve perfectly level results without dealing with all those bulky heavy bubble levels and annoying laser levels. Although our stencils do not require the use of spray adhesive, this pattern could benefit from it to help minimize paint seepage, especially if your walls have a slight texture to them. (Elmer's spray adhesive seems to be the best). Make sure you shake the can well and lightly mist (not drench) the stencil, and let it dry for a moment before positioning it on the wall. This step will prevent the adhesive residue transferring to the wall. You'll need to re-mist the stencil after a few repeats. Note: you will still need to hold the stencil in place with a few pieces of blue painters tape! Adhesive by itself is not enough to hold the stencil on the wall. Clean-up tip: Spray the stencil with Simple Green to help to remove adhesive residue. Please note that once you've used spray adhesive on your stencil, it will never really come off completely. That is why we personally prefer not to use adhesive, and instead use less paint on your roller or stencil brush. All of our stencils are made of thick, sturdy but flexible stencil plastic, reusable, easy to clean and stenciler-friendly. In our 20+ years of professional stenciling this material has proven to be far superior than any other material we used, including the industry standard 8 mil mylar. We are certain you'll notice the difference and will love working with it, just like all the folks who already bought our stencils. Our stencils are made to last and with proper care and storage will serve you for a long time.
