To make the Bird of Paradise punch art, all you will need is the Two-Step Bird punch. Punch 2 pieces of Pacific Point card stock as seen in the above picture. Next, punch out 2 Pumpkin Pie and 1 Old Olive birds. Cut these pieces on the lines in the picture above. Sorry, the lines did not come out too good. Here are the pieces that you will need to make one flower. I used the sponge dauber and various inks to shade the edges of each piece. The following pictures will show you how to assemble the flower: Trim the excess off from the lower edge of the flower. Here is a picture of the finished product... a Bird of Paradise flower!

Hey all, welcome to my corner of the web! Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Facebook! The first time that I’ve had this Jamaican Guinness Punch, it was made by my father-in-law. My
Every summer about this time, I start to get the itch. You know, what will I add/subtract/continue to do in my classroom this year? This year I'm changing a lot because it will only be my 2nd year in the role of a reading intervention teacher. Last year was all about learning the ropes of my new position and my new school. I was just treading water. I'd like to think this year I know a little more and I can offer a lot more to my position. One thing I'm adding is punch cards! I plan to use these punch cards in different ways for each of my groups, grades K-2, because their needs are different too! Read on to see how I'm using punch cards this year, plus a few ideas for classroom teachers too! I will be using punch cards to monitor reading with my 1st and 2nd graders. I will send home punch cards in their take-home book baggies. Parents will initial for every book read, then I will punch the image to show I've checked it. The monthly themes of my punch cards add an extra initiative to their at-home reading and it's such an easy way to keep track of who is reading regularly (their nightly reading is optional from me). I will add empty punch cards to their student file and come progress report time I have an instant image of who was reading regularly and who I can recommend more at-home reading to. Other Ways to Use Them to Monitor Reading... Have older students reading chapter books, or want to stress quality reading, not quantity? Have parents initial for every 10 minutes read, or have students punch during Daily 5 for every 5, 10, 15 minutes read to focus on stamina. Punch cards as incentives will mostly be used with my little K friends, although I am not above breaking them out for my older friends as well. My time with my littles ones is precious, as I am spread out between 8-10 classes. And we all know how short of an attention span our little ones have, so I will be using my punch cards as a way to keep them focused for as long as possible. We will be punching for coming to groups quickly, staying on task, completing a task or mini-assignment, being a helpful friend to others in group, and extra effort. I will be punching away. Punches alone are the perfect incentive. They do not need to be tied to extra prizes. Just saying, "Wow, Brady, you earned 3 punches today!!!" is enough for my little friends. I will also let them pick out their own punch cards instead of using them seasonally because, why not? Other Ways to Use Them as Incentives... Independently or Whole Class: you might not want an extra thing to use with your whole class, or you might want a collective way to inspire your kids. There are no rules with these things! Use them for behavior, at specials times only (the gym teacher gives a punch or she doesn't: EASY!), at dismissal (I wish I thought to use these my first year when dismissal was a HOT MESS for poor first year me!), during arrival, etc, etc, etc I will have a separate punch card for each of my reading groups (there's so many to choose from)! Anytime my students get a compliment from someone else, they will receive a punch on their group card. There are plenty of opportunities for compliments: we have to walk down to my classroom and back and we share a classroom with another intervention teacher. I also plan on punching the group's card if any of my students' teachers come to me with a compliment about progress in class. Each time a group's punch card is filled, I will have a fun reward, like no shoes or gum in small groups. Using the punch cards this way is important for me because, as a non-classroom teacher, I struggle with the amount of time to spend on procedures and routines when my primary role is an interventionist. Classroom management has always been one of my strengths and I found it was more difficult this past year not doing my usual beginning of the year lessons on behavior, procedures, and routines. Punch cards will offer a great assist in my management program as pull-out teacher. Punch cards are great for classroom teachers to use to monitor and track homework. During my last few years as a classroom teacher we had "choice homework"...90% of our homework was by choice and the remaining 10% had to be done each week. I wish I'd had punch cards during those last few years. Students would receive a punch for the required homework and a bonus punch for any choice homework also completed. Punch cards work great for any homework program, though. An easy, student-centered way, to monitor homework completion. Do you do timed tests in your classroom? AR? Xtra Math? Any skills you assess using progress monitoring would be a great way to use punch cards. Have students keep individual goals and write the steps for getting to that goal? They can punch their card every time they complete a step along the way. Bonus for letting students choose and punch their own cards! This will really help them take ownership of their own work and goals. As you can see, I've really thought through how I'm going to use my punch cards this year! Now not the next 23,982 things I want to work on for the next school-year! If you're interested in using punch cards in your classroom or small groups this year, you can grab them from TpT by clicking the picture below. They include a theme for each month of the school-year (some have two themes because I couldn't decide), plus 5 extra sets for even more student choices! Black ink, so they're printer friendly...print on bright cardstock and you're good to go! Have other suggestions for how to use punch cards? Leave them below! Happy Teaching, Friends!

Internal hemorrhoids can be the worst. Bleeding, itching, burning and pain are just a few of the symptoms you might be experiencing right now. Hemorrhoid symptoms are bad and can really put a damper on your life. Don’t fret. You’ve come to the right place. It is possible to get rid of internal hemorrhoids fast, and at home? With the help of our 8 tips you can give those hemorrhoids a knock out punch and get back to enjoying life again. Each and every one of us is unique. For instance, one method of treatment, such as using a hemorrhoid cream, might work for some but not others. The best way to attack internal hemorroids is with HemRid, powerful hemorrhoid pills that attack hemorrhoids from the inside-out. You can get the hemorrhoid pills at Amazon. That’s why we have provided you with 8 different tips to help you get rid of those uncomfortable internal hemorrhoids. To begin, it is first necessary to get a complete understanding of what internal hemorrhoids really are. What Are Internal Hemorrhoids? The medical definition of internal hemorrhoids is “An itching or painful mass of dilated veins in swollen anal tissue.”(1) Internal hemorrhoids are located inside the anus. They can also be thrombosed, prolapsed or both. We will explain. Do I Have A Thrombosed Hemorrhoid? You generally will know if you have a thrombosed hemorrhoid; The pain is usually unbearable. If your having a hard time sitting or moving around due to excruciating pain, you may have a thrombosed hemorrhoid. When a hemorrhoid is described as being thrombosed, that means that it contains a blood clot. Blood clots can occur in the hemorrhoid when there is a lack of blood flow. While blood clots more frequently occur in an external hemorrhoid, they can also occur in an internal hemorrhoid. This is especially the case when the internal hemorrhoid becomes prolapsed, which we will explain. Is My Hemorrhoid Prolapsed? Hopefully not, because they too can be quite painful. When an internal hemorrhoid is prolapsed, that means that the hemorrhoid has come out of the anus and is sticking out or protruding past the anus. There are three different types or degrees of prolapsed hemorrhoids that one can have. Three Types Of Prolapsed Hemorrhoids If the prolapsed hemorrhoid retracts back into the anus on its own then its considered second degree. If the only way for the hemorrhoid to get back into the anus is with manual manipulation, then it falls into the third degree category. And finally, if the hemorrhoid can’t even be manually manipulated back into the anus, well then you have a third degree prolapsed hemorrhoid. Why Are Internal Prolapsed Hemorrhoids At A Greater Risk Of Becoming Thrombosed? Whether internal or external, if your hemorrhoid is prolapsed it is at a greater risk of becoming thrombosed. When outside the anus the hemorrhoid’s blood supply can be cut off or limited by the anal sphincter limiting blood flow. Since thrombosis occurs as a result of a lack of blood flow, these types of hemorrhoids are particularly susceptible to this painful condition. What Causes Hemorrhoids? Hemorrhoids are often caused buy straining during bowel movements or as a result of the pressure placed on the anal region during pregnancy and childbirth. There are other causes such as trauma, anal intercourse, obesity, chronic diarrhea, chronic constipation and a diet that is too low in fiber. There are also many times where the cause for the development of hemorrhoids can not be identified or is unknown. Some of these are preventable, while others, like unexpected trauma and childbirth are quite unpreventable. Fortunately, for those of you that are currently dealing with internal hemorrhoids there are some fantastic, proven ways to get rid of them fast at home. The key is to use all the tips together and create a harsh environment for your hemorrhoid to continue to thrive! 8 Simple Tips To Get Rid Of Internal Hemorrhoids Fast And At Home Diet- Eat Your Veggies! First and foremost, your diet must be addressed. Hemorrhoids can be caused by an unhealthy diet which leads to constipation and overstraining during bowel movements. A diet high in fiber is recommended for those with internal hemorrhoids. This can be attained by eating your veggies. On days you forget, Metamucil can also do the trick. The key is that you are having regular bowel movements that doesn’t require a great deal of straining. Straining too much can actually irritate the hemorrhoids, causing them to become more inflamed and painful. In addition to being a good choice for your general health, eating you veggies can help you get rid of those internal hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoid Donut Cushion - Give those hemorrhoids a rest! We know that hemorrhoids can be caused by pressure placed on the anal region. Taking pressure off the anal region may allow them to get better. Hemorrhoid donut cushions like the Kieba Donut Cushion for Hemorrhoids are extremely popular for expecting mothers. Expecting mothers can often experience a great deal of pelvic and anal pressure from the weight of the baby bearing down on these areas and everything being compacted. They are also excellent at relieving symptoms and allowing hemorrhoid suffers to sit in comfort. In addition to relieving pressure by suspending the anal region in the center of the donut they also can help alleviate low back. This is especially helpful for expecting mothers that are experiencing low back pain. These donut cushions, like the Kieba brand, have removable and washable covers. Hemorrhoid Suppository Or Cream - The medicine works! The medicine in the hemorrhoid creams or hemorrhoid suppositories are extremely effective at taking care of your symptoms and can reduce the size of your hemorrhoids. Preparation H and Nikzon hemorrhoid creams/suppositories has both Phenylephrine HCL and Pramoxine HCL. These are proven ingredients which constrict or shrink the hemorrhoid while at the same time relieving your symptoms. The Phenylephrine is the vasoconstrictor, or the ingredient which shrinks the hemorrhoid by constricting it. The Pramoxine HCL is an anesthetic which numbs the area and gives you that ahhh moment. Together they work superbly. So which should you use a hemorrhoid cream or suppository? For internal hemorrhoids, suppositories may be the better choice. For a full and thorough discussion on hemorrhoid cream or suppository. Hemorrhoid Supplement - Take the fight to your internal hemorrhoids from the inside! Taking a hemorrhoid supplement that is specifically designed for hemorrhoids like HemRid Plus can really help. These products contain scientifically researched ingredients like witch hazel, the ingredient in hemorrhoid wipes and pads. They attack the hemorrhoids from the inside. HemRid is the leading supplement. It is the top selling hemorrhoid supplement on Amazon and has an extremely high customer satisfaction rate. It is great compliment to a cream and wipe. Speaking of wipes, that leads us to #5. Hemorrhoid Wipe - You need to clean after a bowel movement anyway, might as well apply medicine! Hemorrhoid wipes are another must have for hemorrhoid suffers. Get yourself some Tucks Pads. Tucks have been around forever for a reason. They work. They clean, they soothe, and they contain an ingredient which can shrink hemorrhoid tissue, witch hazel. This ingredient, that also happens to be an ingredient in HemRid, is a hemorrhoids worst nightmare. It is an astringent. It literally constricts the tissue shrinking the hemorrhoid. Imagine a grape turning into a raisin. Sitz Bath - You Now Have A Medical Reason To Take Time To Yourself And Soak! Bath salts, steam and peace. Yes. This is actually healthy for your hemorrhoids. Like all the others, Doctors recommend these too. The reason is that the warm bath may improve the circulation of the hemorrhoids. Sits baths are also know to relieve symptoms almost immediately. There is a whole product line of portable sitz baths, although there is nothing like the real thing, a hot soak. Speaking of water, that leads us to our last tip. Water - Drink Water! No. Not the sitz bath water. In all seriousness, staying good and hydrated is paramount to avoiding constipation. Constipation can seriously set you back in your recovery. Drink the recommend amount of water daily; The National Academies of Sciences recommends 15.5 cubs of water for men and 11.5 cups of water daily for women. Besides the fact that its good for your general health, it can help you get rid of those internal hemorrhoids. Alcohol - Stay away from alcohol. Stay far away from alcohol. Drinking alcohol regularly, in addition to not being particularly nice to your liver, can dehydrate. This will reverse the effort you’ve made to drink the recommended daily intake of water. When the body is dehydrated it is more prone to constipation and can require more straining during during bowel movements, all very bad things for your internal hemorrhoids. Final Conclusion These eight tips are great when used together. Combined they create a harsh environment for those internal hemorrhoids to thrive. If you have appreciated these 8 tips please like or share this page. For the products referenced, they can all be purchased on Amazon and combined should only cost about $50-$60. Happy healing. 1. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/internal-hemorrhoid

Credit: The 3AM Teacher, Zip-ah-dee-doo-dah Designs, KG Fonts, Hello Fonts It's no secret that I use my iPad ALL the time in my classroom. Some teachers are REALLY lucky and they have a cart of iPads or a class set. I only have one Wi-Fi iPad (my personal iPad) to use with my kiddos but we make it work! Before we begin let me say that I am lucky to have a Smartboard and projector in my classroom. I bought this handy little gadget to hook my iPad up to the Smartboard which helps ALOT to make the iPad more accessible to all students. This is a VGA adapter for the iPad, you can get it from the Apple website or at Best Buy. Now that we're hooked up, here are 10 of my favorite apps/activities using my iPad that benefit all the kids in my classroom. 1. iBooks This is a free app to download from the iTunes. Any read aloud book I read this year (Magic Tree House, etc.) I downloaded it from iBooks. To help with cost, I asked for iTunes gift cards for my birthday, Christmas and as a wish item for my classroom. When we read the book aloud, I would hook up to the projector so my kiddos could see the books much better than if I just held it for them. Sometimes my kiddos would read along on the Smartboard or have a specific set of questions they were working on while we read it aloud. I found that my kiddos were so much more engaged when I projected books onto the Smartboard. 2. mClass Assessment My district uses the mClass 3D Reading assessment (which also includes Diebels Next) as the K-3 reading assessment for our kiddos. I originally used a mini-laptop and a Bamboo tablet before I found out that I could use my iPad! This quickly became the only way to assess since it was so much easier! Sometimes I use a stylus when assessing but you could use your finger just as easily. (Note: my school also has Wi-Fi which makes it easy to sync, if you do not have Wi-Fi at your school you can sync when you take it home to your personal Wi-Fi or whenever you are in a Wi-Fi range) HERE are the directions to get the mClass button on your iPad. 3. Storia I have talked many times of my love for Scholastic Book Clubs, well the Storia app has added to that love. I send home Scholastic Book Clubs every month and my kiddos order books. I can spend my points to get FREE e-books using the Storia app, which I then project onto the Smartboard and read aloud to my class. They also offer some books with audio. 4. Class Dojo About halfway through the year my kids grow a little tired of all the incentives I offer for good behavior. Around January I set up Class Dojo for a new, fresh approach. Now that Class Dojo is available as a FREE app it has gotten even better! The best part of this app is that I can I project my class dojo page on the Smartboard and then open the app on my iPad. While I am sitting with my iPad and teaching small group (which is usually the time that is most difficult for classroom management) I can give Dojo points by clicking on my iPad and it shows up on the Smartboard! I don't have to say anything, I just teach my small group, do a quick scan of the rest of my kids working on centers and give a few points (or take a few points) as needed. As soon as my kids hear the "ding" of points being given it becomes super quiet! It also has an option to pick a random student, no more popsicle sticks! If I need to call on a student, I open Class Dojo and pick at random! 5. Brain Pop Jr. App We LOVE some Brain Pop Jr. in my class!! Usually I just project the website using my computer but sometimes I want to watch a video while teaching small group. I teach small group reading and math instruction everyday so I spend a lot of time at my horseshoe table. (Note: you must have a subscription to access all the brain pop videos, but there is also a FREE Brain pop video of the week you can watch each week if you don't have a subscription). 6. Small Group Instruction I use my iPad ALOT in small group. I play short videos from Grammar Jammers, read short stories from iBooks/Storia or use skill specific apps depending on my kiddos needs. So, how do we do this without disrupting ALL the other kids who are working independently and want to see what's on the iPad?? We plug in headphones using this fancy splitter! I have heard of some teachers requiring students to bring a pair of headphones to school like any other school supply at the beginning of the year so that they have headphones ready to go when using a headphone splitter. I bought headphones from Dollar Tree so I would have enough to use, they aren't the most durable but they get the job done! 7. Tap Roulette App This is the simplest app but it is AMAZING! Do you ever have an argument in your classroom that you don't want to solve?? Well this app will solve it for you! Have whichever kids are arguing put one of their fingers on the iPad and you click "Pick Finger". The iPad will flash and then pick one of the fingers, solving the argument by random selection! If you need to solve a simple problem (who was there first?? who should get the first pick?? who gets the red crayon first?? ) then this app is a lifesaver! 8. Pandora Radio My kiddos LOVE listening to music! Sometimes we dance to pop music, play freeze dance, play musical numbers/words/operations and other times we write while listening to soothing classical music. I plug my computer speakers into my headphone jack on the iPad, we choose a kid friendly station and we are good to go! Pandora has it all! (Note: Wi-Fi is needed to access Pandora) 9. Mad Libs This is another app that I project to practice our parts of speech as a whole group or for just a fun brain break. This is a great review of the different parts of speech. There are many FREE stories and also ones you can buy. I usually move around the room and choose different students to fill in each blank. They always find the final story to be hilarious : ) 10. QR Codes I found myself incorporating QR codes into more and more activities last year. My kids were fascinated with them. QR codes are SUPER easy to make using THIS website. And I usually make QR codes with answers or hidden riddles for different centers/activities around the room. I don't let the kids walk around with my iPad scanning them because I know kids sometimes drop things and I would be so sad if my iPad dropped on the floor and broke. These FREE QR codes were fun to use for test prep and then I used these QR codes in HERE to countdown the last 10 days of school! The countdown codes were a big hit at the end of the year. I also have some ideas for them in the upcoming school year! And that's how we do it folks! I hope I have given you a few new ideas for how to use 1 iPad in your classroom of many!
