If you are needing some Halloween Inspiration, you are in the right place. Papertrey Ink has lots to share today with Day 2 of DT Group Posts. First off, new additions to the Tiny Town House. This one is called Tiny Town: Spookyville. I turned this little house into a tea light holder. The bottom is cut out so the house can sit over a tea light. I cut the house out of black card stock and then cut all the accessories out of white cardstock. I used Purple and Orange Copic markers to colors all the parts. The Copics gave the roof a more weathered look, the shutters are more uneven it just adds to the "creepy". :) I lined all the windows with vellum so the house really glows. I tried multiple times to get a good shot of the glow from the tea light but the pictures didn't turn out. This little house will make the perfect addition to my dining room tray for Halloween. This next card uses the dies from the Shaped Sayings: Halloween. I added the dies to a Smokey Shadow card base that I embossed with the Lined Impression plate. I also added in some Fresh snow ink for the fog behind the moon. I heat embossed the sentiment from Pumpkin Expressions to finish off the card. This last project uses the Autumn Pumpkins and Pumpkin Expressions. I used the Tasting Tag Die to create this little treat holder. I added in the tree die from the Tiny Town: Spooky Yard Dies in the background and then the pumpkin from Autumn Pumpkin. The new set called Pumpkin Expression can turn these adorable pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. This set also includes some cute halloween sayings. I added in some ribbon and twine and then tied this super sized Smarties pack onto the tag. Quick and easy for a fun Halloween Treat. Hello! I've created a simple Christmas card for this week's CAS(E) This Sketch. I left off the two dots because I just couldn't figure out how to work them into my design (oops!). The rest of the design team did a much better job than me on that one. ;-) I used PTI Spruce and Sprigs and sentiment stamps. I still love this sketch! Let me tell you, this kit is truly a joy to use! With it, I've created home decor, gift packaging, even a little festive style for Yuletide entertaining. And Erin has made it so easy to add sparkle to the seasonal shapes, that these beautiful projects come together in no time at all. I've had so, so much fun with this batch of projects. So without further ado, let's get on to some holiday goodness! We're going to begin today with a festive holiday garland. I used the dies in the kit to cut mittens, stockings, a star, and garland pieces. I created the tree, argyle, and star beaded designs with ease thanks to the motif dies included in the kit. I chose to leave the stockings a little simpler by just using the heel and toe patches instead of the beading. I actually like that there's something a little less involved between the beaded objects. It sort of gives the eye a place to rest, know what I mean? The mittens and the stockings are all open at the top, so small trinkets, candies, and gift cards can be tucked inside for safe keeping. The star is stuffed with polyfil to give it a bit of extra dimension. I stitched two medium garland lengths together between each shaped item. The garland includes three separate lengths as well as an end loop to give you a wide range of options. I stitched Pure Poppy buttons over each connection to both hide the stitching and give an extra pop of color. This mantle is about four feet wide. I can't wait to start on a garland for the eleven foot mantle! Next up, I have a pair of gift toppers. Let's start with the monogrammed stocking. I began this little patterned stocking by stamping Background Basics: Striped Sweater onto a piece of iron-on transfer paper using Ripe Avocado ink. I ironed that onto Simply Chartreuse felt and die cut as normal. I used Vintage Cream for the cuff, heel, and toe and then used contrasting red embroidery floss to assemble. The letter was cut from Pure Poppy felt using the Sew Stylish Alphabet dies and attached with the same red floss. I kept the top open again and tucked a gift card inside, but a candy cane would be another perfect addition. And once the gift is opened, this little fella can be used as a Christmas tree ornament. Isn't that handy? The second gift topper is a wintry beaded star. I die cut the star from Aqua Mist and Vintage Cream felts. I used the beaded star motif die on the white piece and then embellished with sequins and beads included in the kit. I stitched together those layers, adding a Hawaiian Shores hanger and polyfill in there before all was said and done. This one would also look lovely hanging on your tree. Last, but certainly not least, I have a set of beaded napkin rings to share. We get together (almost) every week with friends for dinner on Thursday nights and I thought it might be fun to use this kit to create a bit of festive table decor for the upcoming holiday season. I began by cutting the longest and the shortest garland lengths from Vintage Cream felt. Then, I die cut the long strips with part of the argyle pattern. I paired the garland lengths together and stitched one end together. I did my decorative stitching and beading before finishing the free ends of the strips with self-adhesive hook & loop tape (aka velcro). That makes it super easy to get the napkin rings on and off and I don't have to worry about the rings getting crunched or misshapen in the off-season since they'll store flat. I'm really looking forward to using them! So there you have it! This kit really is a joy. I have made fortune cookies with my students before and knew that was what I wanted to make from our squares of paper. I made these from the 6x6 pad of Father Knows Best paper pad. Start by tracing a circle on the paper. Any circle from about 3-4" works well. Cut out the circle. Fold the circle in half, but do not crease the circle. Hold the paper as shown and begin the folding process. Keep in mind that I had to take the photo, so normally your other hand would be holding the opposite side together. :) Bring the two sides together. They look more realistic, if you do not fold them in half, but rather, off-center. You want to do this before you apply adhesive. I recommend a strong adhesive, because of the pressure on the sides. I used two strips of Wonder Tape. Keep the pieces small enough, so they do not show. Bring the sides together again, and there you have it! :) I printed off fortunes from this site: Fortune Cookie Sayings. But, with all the great sayings that PTI has, I am sure that they could be stamped for the appropriate occasion. I am thinking graduation, baby shower, bridal shower... Now, let me get started!...First up, Flower Fusion #11 and Happy Days.I stamped the Happy Days frame and the Flower Fusion flower and sentiment onto the card base. Die cut a strip of cardstock using the coordinating Happy Days frame die and adhered onto either side.Next, Lock & Key and Tag-its #11. Here is another use for those fun Cover Plate: Quatrefoil dies, just run it through your die cutting machine as if it was an Impression Plate. So simple!I just love this little air plane from Tremendous Treats: Valentine!Stamped the plane in gray ink and outlined the image with a few Copic Markers. I'm not so good when it comes to coloring in images, but this is an easy alternative that really looks great.What little girl doesn't want her own princess castle (from Little Princess) floating in the clouds?!Again, I used the same coloring technique as above. Then perched the castle onto white and white shimmer die cut clouds. Love it!The rest of the sentiment is embellished in the inside of the card.Here's Made of Snow Mini.Yep, it's the same coloring technique as above again. I combined this frosty friend with a heart warming sentiment from Big & Bold Holiday Wishes.This little number features a sentiment from Tag-its #11.I whipped out my Heart Border Die to create this one.Last but not lease... Tree Tops and Think Big Favorites #11. I perched a couple Love Birds into a clear embossed tree top.Framed the focal point with a die cut frame, which was created using the Mega Mat Stack #4 die, the rectangle die from the Button Card Collection and the Vineyard Impression Plate. In addition to that you receive Beaded Holiday Motif dies: the Beaded Snowflake, Tree, and Argyle Dies. They are sized to work interchangeably with the larger designs. Let's take a closer look at all three of these beauties. First up, the Beaded Holiday: Stocking featuring the Beaded Holiday Tree Motif. All three of the beaded motif dies feature the use of 8mm sequins, 8/0 seed beads, and 6 mm bugle beads. We've included a wonderful custom assortment of beads and sequins (to match the PTI colors) in the kit. It even comes with its own 10 compartment storage box. You are all ready to craft when you get your kit. And once you use up what is included, you have the sizes and specs you need to replenish your supplies at your local craft store. The Beaded Holiday: Stocking comes with a contrasting cuff. You also have the option of adding in a contrasting toe and heel, as I did here. Or you can totally leave those off. All the dies are included and I'll be providing PDF's and a tutorial video (below) so you can follow along with all the tricks. I promise, however, that these are really easy to put together. Both the Beaded Holiday:: Stocking and Beaded Holiday: Mitten have a loop die for sewing in and hanging your stocking or mitten ornament on the tree. Or, alternatively, you can just loop a piece of twine or ribbon through to work the same way. It's all up to you. You know I'm all about options. Next up, the Beaded Holiday: Mitten. You have the option of sewing in a contrasting cuff. Or you can leave it off. All the dies you need for that are included in the kit. The Beaded Holiday:Argyle Motif is a stunner. I do believe it is my favorite. Embroidery floss can add another punch of color. I use all six strands to really make the floss diamonds really stand out. I've made a Beaded Holiday: Stocking and Beaded Holiday:Mitten video tutorial. These are very similar in construction, so I've combined the how-to together. Also included in the video are a few beading tips. I mentioned in the video that there is a felt interfacing that I like to use on my stitching projects. It is called Pellon Craft and Home Decor Interfacing, Ultra Firm Sew In. It is stuff that is used for hat brims and the like. I got it off the bolt at Joann's, for around $5.00 a yard on sale. In particular, this stuff is great for giving some rigidity to a single layer felt design or on the backside of a pocketed stocking or mitten. It cuts great in the die cut machines without pre-treament. Even all those stitching holes! For your reference, here is a photo of the bolt. Excuse the cell phone picture. I had kids dancing around me, had to be quick. Figured it was best to get you the information, no matter the photo quality. Lastly, we have the Beaded Holiday: Star with the Beaded Holiday: Snowflake Motif Die. This ornament is stuffed with Poly-Fil for plushness. A note on the Beaded Holiday Motif Dies. Talk about a beautiful way to add some shine to your project. You use the same type of stitching holes as any of the other stitching dies. The holes are just spaced differently to accommodate the sizes of the beads and sequins for a perfectly spaced design. The how-to details on these are best presented in the PDF that will be included in your purchase. In the meantime, here's an illustration of all three together. Now, how about taking this ideas and expanding on them? All three of these larger stitched designs would make darling ornaments. Present all three together in a coordinated color theme with matching packaging, like I did here. (I call this my Frozen colorway set! You could see them on Elsa's and Anna's tree, right?) This would be a perfect friend, family, or teacher gift. I even added the Beaded Holiday Tree Motif to my paper packaging (Front and Center 1 Die, not included). Takes about ten minutes and is so pretty. Would look fabulous on a tag too. These basic shapes are more than just ornaments. You can do so many other things with them. Here, I've left the top of the Beaded Holiday: Mitten open to hold a napkin and silverware set for the holiday table. Add a loop and this can be taken home by your guest and then used as an ornament. Double duty for the holiday table and a party favor. Tie these beauties onto packaging too. If you make a pocketed Beaded Holiday: Mitten or Beaded Holiday: Stocking, a gift card fits right inside. How about stringing these felt shapes onto a garland for some festive home decor? Would you believe we have a Beaded Holiday: Garland Die included in the kit? Oh yeah, we've got you covered! The Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies consists of five separate dies. You've got the long loops for the ends of your garland, like you see here. I always find hanging garlands to be tricky. I think the looped ends are going to help me out in a big way. Problem solved. You can make your garland as long and as simple as you want it by adding on segments. Custom size it to fit your particular space. The Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies also comes with three different lengths of "garland connectors'. Again, just customizing the size to your needs. These are the felt pieces that string between your Beaded Holiday Mitten, Beaded Holiday: Stocking, and/or Beaded: Holiday Star. We are finding out as a team just how handy these little babies are. I do believe most of our "extra" ideas have to do with using them in alternative ways. As you can see, I made a felt loop chain garland with mine with the largest length of garland connectors. You can get seven rings per the width of the Papertrey Ink felt. Imagine creating garland for birthdays in any of the PTI felt colors! This die is going to take you beyond the holidays for sure. And lastly, included with the Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies is a "holes only" die so you can stitch your garland connectors between your large shapes, joining them together. I've created a video tutorial on how the Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies work with the Beaded Holiday: Stocking, Mitten, and Star. There are tree different ways to use the garland connectors for garland. Just depends on your preference. Click play to learn more. A few other things of interest with this particular garland I've created. I choose not to use any Beaded Motif Dies. Just for a different look. Also, I used fabric treated with Heat N' Bond and ironed on to cuff, heel, and toe cuts of the Pellon Crafts + Home Decor Interfacing Ultra Firm Sew In. Whenever I use fabric, I also back it with the same cut in felt, so the rest of the project doesn't show through the fabric. A long time ago, I created a Make It Monday Video about using Heat N' Bond with fabric for die cutting. If you need the refresher, here's the link. Also, this stocking was left open at the top to make a pocket. It can hold fun stuff while strung as a garland. I'm thinking some sort of advent or countdown garland might be fun. The stockings and mittens can easily hold a piece of candy or a tag with a holiday activity listed on it. Especially when teamed up with the Sew Stylish Number Dies, available separately. One last project before I wrap it up for the day. Take the Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies and make a vertical hanging decor piece. I sewed up three Beaded Holiday: Stars with a blanket stitch on the Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies. Jingle bells are sewn between the stars. A little hot glue was used to keep the points of the stars along the garland connectors and the jingle bells from flopping around, but none of that shows. No problem then, right? Whatever it takes! Also of note here, I used all three Beaded Holiday Motif Dies on the Beaded Holiday: Stars to show you how they are interchangeable on the larger shapes. The back of this project show you more of the construction. I used the "holes only" die from Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies and cut that into the back of my Beaded Holiday: Stars. I was then able to sew in the garland connectors from the Beaded Holiday: Garland Dies, creating a long line. The smallest length was used to connect the stars. I used the loop at the top so it could hang off a hook or knob and the medium length at the bottom so I could cut a little flag edge with my scissors. The looped end from the Beaded Holiday: Garland Die is big enough to go around a door knob for a door hanger. With jingle bells sewn in, it jingles every time somebody opens or closes the door.
