I have a Domino in Ultra Violet on the way which I will be using as my journal (my current journal pages are in my daily planner as I have nowhere else to keep them at the moment). I keep looking at Project Life, and how colourful and planned out the pages look. And then I remember how expensive project life is, and that puts me off. So, after hours of browsing and dreaming this afternoon on Pinterest, I've had a play around on the computer to try and put my ideas into some kind of visual way to explain how I'd use Project Life in a Filofax. It's something I have wanted to do for some time, I think it looks visually beautiful. I thought about getting credit card holders and doing 6 cards a week, although they would cost a lot, I'd need 104 a year! I saw a photo where someone had just stuck the Project Life cards onto the paper. Great idea! (Sorry I can't remember what the link was but will link back if I find it again). Here's my dream: You can get literally loads of free Project Life printables on the internet which can then be resized, altered and printed out. I like the idea of having a combination of photographs and journaling - I think that's what I've been missing in my current setup. It would even solve the issue of bleed-through if I want to use stamps, because I can just stamp directly onto the journaling card or cardstock. I have loads of scrapbooking paper I can use, and like I have done this week, I can order four sets of co-ordinating cardstock and stickers for just over £10 which will last me a whole month's worth of pages. I'm going to try this out in real life (not on the computer) and see if it works. I hope it does, and I hope I will be able to keep it up, I think it's a lovely thing to be able to record your memories and moments in such a beautiful way. Adding thickness to pages also won't be an issue, as I'll be using my personal Domino just for journaling and creative writing. What do you reckon?!

Hey everyone Am sure by now you will have heard of Imy & Kate's Facebook group, 30 Days of Lists. Every month a selected person will produce a list of 30 or 31 topics for us to write about. This is open to all Philofaxy users and gives some of us, another excuse to get a Filofax. lol So the big question is, which Filofax are you going to use for this project? First I was going to use my daily Personal Holborn, but it's heavy enough in my handbag without adding more pages, so I decided to use my A5 Finchley.....I am really loving this Filofax right now, it's so soft and supple but firm at the same time. I am using it as my 365 Day Journal at the moment and I think, I can just about squeeze a few more pages in there. The pretty divider on the left is a home made divider to separate the Journal from the Lists. I've printed the September List onto card and added a September sticker (similar to the ones I made here ) to the tab. Hopefully you can see the list, but if you can't, you can find it on the Facebook page. Next question was, do I use a full page for each day? Well that would be ideal but the A5 Finchley only comes with 25mm rings and they are pretty full up all ready, I really needed to keep this to a minimum, so I created this layout, I can now get 4 days to a sheet instead of 2. I don't use stickers that much in my Filofax, even though I have a small mountain of them, so I thought, this is a fun project, why not add some fun stickers! Notice I haven't put numbers down the sides of the paper, this is so I can use different styles styles, ie..huge bubble letters if the list is small or tiny writing if the list is longer, maybe even use different pens, ie...chunky felt tips, crayons or even water colour paints....who knows! Really looking forward to getting started with this now though.....and I would love to see what Filofax you are using and what ideas you have come up with to write your own lists!

I love finding things to alter in my local thrift store. I found this mini day planner, pictured below, at the Hospice of Amador County Thrift Store last week—the purchase price—30 cents! Wowee! I thought it would be fun to give the above planner a makeover with the NEW Maggie Holmes Flea Market Mini Kit now available at Digital Project Life and fill it with recent photos of my family. This post will include LOTS of pictures and a synopsis of how I gave the above mini planner some TLC and transformed it into a brag book that easily fits in my purse. It holds three dividers, one for pictures of me and my husband, pictures of my children--Brandi, Jake, Gwen, and Raiden--and pictures of places we’ve visited, like Disneyland and the beach. The planner was already sturdy, with a binding system—that’s a plus-so I thought I would just print some of the filler cards from the digital kit onto some printable cotton canvas to cover the planner and make it more “me”. To do this, I opened the planner and placed it down onto some white cardstock and used a black pen to trace around it and the closure in order to get the basic shape of the planner. Then I scanned this sheet into my computer, retrieved it in Photoshop Elements, and cleaned up the file by erasing the white space, and saved it as a png file to open in the Silhouette Studio software. When I retrieved the file in the Silhouette Studio software, I traced it to make it a cut file, and then reduced the size to 95%, so that it would be just the size to fit inside the shape of the planner, not cover it completely—I wanted the sewn seam to show on the outside. Then I filled the shape with some filler cards from the digital kit. I printed it onto the printable cotton canvas and then cut it using the appropriate setting for the media used. I applied it to the top of the planner and the closure—it was very easy—after all this printable cotton has a sticky back which is very convenient and crafter-friendly. Yay! I also printed and cut some of the filler cards with a button cut file and washi tape cut file onto the printable cotton canvas to make embellishments. For the buttons, I also cut complimentary chipboard to back the buttons for weight. The buttons were machine sewn onto the photo layouts. Here are some pictures of the inside of the little planner utilizing Maggie Holmes Flea Market Mini Kit with my family photos inside (backed with kraft cardstock), some journaling cards in the pockets, and a pen in the holder. Following the pictures, I will post some information regarding Maggie Holmes’ new kit at Digital Project Life as well as a list of the cut files I used from the Silhouette America Online Store. I hope you like it as much as I do. It really feels good in my hands. This supply will be something I will look for in future thrifting. I kept the left side blank of each spread, so that I can add pictures in the future quite easily. Here’s the description from Digital Project Life: The Project Life® Maggie Holmes Flea Market Mini Kit is full of gorgeous florals, stripes, dots, and whimsical patterns in vibrant, cheerful colors. This is my customized Moleskine planner, made from a standard pocket Moleskine (ruled) to resemble the format of a Moleskine Weekly Planner. I created this planner, because Moleskine 2006 Weekly Planners are hard to find and expensive. But beyond cost or scarcity, I thought it would be interesting to create my own planner from scratch, based on some great ideas gleaned from Bill Westerman's Miquelrius notebook: www.flickr.com/photos/davegray/145761460/ So far, I'm very pleased with how this little book is working for my personal agenda. I decided this year I was going to take my journal and diary writing more seriously. Deciding what to use was a bit of a nightmare, I bought so many different Journals, Diaries and Filofax inserts, it was shocking! I finally decided to write my journal in a Moleskine Diary, then I had a separate notebooks in my Midori Traveller's Notebook for my Reading Diary and Health Journal. I had another diary going to note down the weather, my food intake and how I was managing my time and finally I had my Crochet Journal. I was also contemplating on starting a Spirituality/Tarot Journal. As you can imagine, in the evenings when I write in my Journals, it was a bit of a haul pulling out all these different journals and diaries. It got me thinking, I just needed something where I can write down all this stuff on one place. So, do I use a Filofax and have different subject tabs or can I get all this info down on one page ??? First I needed to decided on a Filofax. I recently swapped a A5 red Finchley, so I put my 365 Day Journal into this Filofax, then took my favourite A5 Finchely in Imperial Purple and made some inserts for it. The first inserts I added were, the Monthly divider tabs. The A5 Finchley doesn't have huge rings so I can only get 4-6 months in it at a time. Next I needed to make the inserts I wanted to use: Page 1: Page 2: So now I have all my info covered over 2 pages and I don't have to keep so many different journals. I've been using this system for just over a week and it's working out really well, plus I get to use my lovely A5 Finchley every day too. I use 2 four coloured Bic pens so I have 8 colours to work with.

Welcome Back to Filofaxiness - the running Monday post on Marigolds' Loft where I will be walking you through how I stay on top of everything that I tend to fill my days and hours up with. If you missed last weeks post on how to organize your needles, tips and hooks, you can find that post HERE Today I am going to be showing you how I have my stash organized. I used to have a hazy idea of how much, and which yarn was hiding under my bed, but that was it, it remained at a hazy idea. My stash under my bed :) As with my tools, I was constantly rummaging through my stash to find out if I had enough of a given type of wool for certain projects. I wanted to have something that I could have on hand that included all possible details that I would need to know about a yarn.......how many skeins, thickness, colour, where I bought it, possible patterns etc. And so my Filofax Stash planner* was born! *Please note: I offer you these free planners for YOUR use only. They may not be sold, re-produced or otherwise. If you are using my planner please give me the credit - thank you kindly. Now I know exactly how much of any given yarn I have in my stash, the info on the label that I never used to write down, my gauge, needles, projects everything! You can grab your FREE Printable PDF copy of this Stash Planner HERE A Note on Printing: When you come to print the page, please do click on the option "Print Current Page" because as much as I tried, my PC refused to allow me to save only page 1, so there are 2 pages in the PDF but the second page is empty, sorry about that. It is a Landscape view. The Printable is made on an A4 sheet, this is so that if you have an A4 planner you can print it as it stands. My Filofax is an A5 and so I print it out and then print the same on the back, cut it in half and then punch it. To see how I put this planner to use in my Filofax, please watch the video below. Don't forget to come past next week where I will be showing you how I organize my WIPs. I would love to hear from you, have you used my planner? Any ideas on what else you would like to see? All your comments are very welcome and much appreciated! I will share this post with all of my lovely Link Ups.

… Or should I say; Gillio-Flashing?Between all of the gorgeous planners I saw at Gillio, I couldn’t stop to think: they all look so NEW; I like mine a tiny bit scuffed, used and abused.…
A note: All the highlighted words in my blog are clickable links. I recently came across a blog from Tami Taylor about keeping a Five Year Journal. She prints a list of questions every month for you to work on, just one a day. Tami does this on index cards....but as a Filofax user...this is another great excuse for a new Filofax. So my Filofax this time is, the beautiful A5 Imperial Purple Finchley. At £125 this one doesn't come cheap.....unless you find a used one on e-bay OR contact The Filofax Shop in Neal Street, London and get a bargain (like I did) for £40. The Finchley is a beautiful Filofax, it feels heavenly and the colour is rich, only downside is the 25mm rings. I would love this to have had 30mm ones. But look at how flat it lies! So inside, I have kept it clutter free. The red card insert is from the journal cover I used, to make the Filofax paper I did here. It is only there so I can rest on it whilst writing. As you can see, I am using the 25mm rings to the maximum. Under the flyleaf, is a yearly calendar I designed. Most yearly calendars have the months down the left hand side, I wanted days of the week in that place instead. I haven't started the journal yet, but once I do, I will mark off each day with a highlighter so I know what days I've completed. I went onto Tami's Blog and printed off the questions. So far, there's only January to August, but she adds the following month's questions around the middle of the previous month, so September is due any day! I decided to print the questions out on patterned paper, but to be honest, I'm not sure I like this format. I was going to add tabs to them with the months written on and use them as dividers but decided against it. Next I had to make the pages, in hindsight, it would of being so much easier printing these pages on plain paper and punching the holes to fit the Filofax. Drawing the separation lines and writing in the years, took me the best part of two days and four A5 White Ruled Notepads On the very top line, I write the daily question. We haven't been given the October questions yet so I wrote one with a Frixion pen (so I can erase it later), to show you what it would look like. I used this date for obvious reasons. lol So you can see how this journal is going to work, I can imagine each answer for the same question will be different every year. I've added divider tabs using Avery stickers, using the same format I did in my Homemade Label Blog. So now I am really looking forward to using it! Even though we are 8 months into this year, I am still going to go back and try and answer the questions from the previous months, using notes from my daily dairy/journal.
Hi everyone! My name is Jennifer. I blog over at MyPurpleyLife.com and do a number of videos on YouTube. I am so happy to have been given the chance to guest post for the Philofaxy All Stars Tour 2013 here on She's Eclectic. Just like Amanda, I too have planner envy. My Planner Envy is TeacherCandy. Photos of her planner can be found on Instagram @TeacherCandy. Candy is such a sweet, wonderful person and her personality really shines through her planner pages. She loves the color pink probably as much as I love purple. The pages she creates are cute and simple, with a minimalistic design and the use of kawaii stationery, pastel colors, washi tape, and stickers. Her handwriting is simply gorgeous. The pages look full without looking too cluttered. Something about her pages that I'm very drawn to is her use of sticky notes. Instead of writing directly onto the paper, she makes great use of her sticky notes. Thank you, Candy, for allowing me to share my envy for your pages. Thank you, Amanda, for letting me share my planner envy on your blog. -Jennifer Reyes More ways to find me: ♥ WEBSITE ♥ http://www.mypurpleylife.com ♥YOUTUBE♥ http://youtube.com/mypurpleylife.com ♥INSTAGRAM♥ http://instagram.com/mypurpleylife ♥TWITTER♥ https://twitter.com/mypurpleylife ♥FACEBOOK♥ https://www.facebook.com/mypurpleylife Thank you for writing this post Jennifer and I completely agree with you, TeacherCandy's pages are beautiful! Last week was really busy for me. The school decided to squish everything into the last four days of term so by the time Easter arrived I was glad of the rest! Week 13 overview For the first time in ages I managed to return the children's library books on time. Previously I found myself calling the library to renew the loans on the day they were due back (or even worse a day or two after!) because I had forgotten all about them. It felt like a little victory to have collected all eight books together on Sunday and returned them on Monday, my planning is working! Close up On Saturday I tweaked some things on here, I added a new page and edited some photos I wanted to use at a later date. I like how it's coming together now. Easter Sunday was also my daughter's birthday so she decided which stickers I used on that day. The princess washi tape came on the parcel from my ebay haul so I recycled it. Close up I had to go through all the letters and paperwork I had clipped together and stored in the back of my Filofax last week. It was getting too bulky and nearly straining the elastic loop that keeps it closed! I transferred over any information I needed to keep onto my pages and then disposed of the letters and anything important I filed away. There is now only three bits of paper stored in the back which are about things I need to deal with this week. I can't believe how much lighter it is now! Bulky!

Last week’s post, “Guide to Notebook Systems/System Techo, Part I”, offered a brief introduction to different types of notebook systems on the market. One of those categories was the “System Techo,” a Japanese term for a notebook system built around a ringed binder. “System Techo” is not as popular
When it comes to the larger organisers, the ones that sit on a desk, I tend to prefer page-per-day or even 2-pages-per-day, but none of the layouts available commercially works properly for me. So I made my own: The hardest part was building the Excel file that serves as the data source for the Word mailmerge. Have a look closely at the top of the left hand page: yes, those mini-calendars are dynamic and will always show the current month plus next month. The formulae that feed all those numbers are non-trivial, but in another part of the collection of odd jobs I call a career, I'm an Excel developer, so it was an interesting challenge. Print this on a duplex laser, punch it and you have an A4 diary. Mine is A5, so I print this in duplex booklet layout and then guillotine the sheets and voila: an A5 diary, the way I want it. Once I get file hosting sorted out and playing with Blogger, perhaps I could publish the source files, or at least a PDF. Let me know in the comments if you're interested. Also, now the heavy lifting of the Excel file is all done, developing different custom layouts in Word should be pretty easy, so let me know in the comments if there's a layout you've always wanted. No promises, but I might be able to produce something that works for you.
I often hear people say that they don't understand the whole 'planner thing'. I'm not sure what there isn't to understand. It's fun!! I love decorating because it makes me happy to open up my planner and add stuff to it. Plus, it gives me another way to use all of my scrapping supplies. Here are some of my recent spreads. This first one is my April calendar. It was easy to do. I added some washi and stickers to the empty spaces at the beginning of the month. Then, as the days passed, I added more where there were blank spots. This spread in my Dark Pink planner used stickers and paper from Kaisercraft. It's called Dream Big. This next spread used lots of goodies from the Target Dollar spot. I love the pink, green and grey here. The little phone clip is made from a Crate Paper chipboard piece. Next up is my Light Teal planner. I used May's Gossamer Blue kits here. The card is from the Life's Pages kit, I also used stamps and stickers from the kit. I made the bow clip from exclusive paper that came with it and the other clip was made from a Crate Paper 3d sticker. This next one uses October Afternoon's Treasure Map line. I added that cute little whale clip. Isn't he cute? He's from Kawaii Paperie on Etsy. I pulled out some cute Kawaii goodies for this next spread. I love the tape. I think it's from Etsy. The pig clip is also from Kawaii Paperie. Finally, I decorated the front of my Sky Blue with lots of goodies from my Planner Society kit. This was the first month that I got the kit and I love it. I'll be sharing a couple of more projects I made with the kit soon. Well, that's it for today. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks so much for stopping by!
I was asked by a reader, Jane, to create a weekly meals planner. She wanted to be able to plan for the week ahead, shop accordingly and at the same time track her spending against a budget. I created a four-page planner that might be of use to anyone who wants to take a more organised approach to feeding themselves or their family. Here's what it looks like. The first page is about establishing a starting point for the week in terms of budget and what is already to hand. Click to enlarge Then comes a two-page spread with meals on the left and categorised shopping lists on the right. Click to enlarge Finally, page 4 allows you to add non-food shopping and to review your week and look forward to the next one. Click to enlarge You can download the pages as either an editable Word file or as a PDF file. Either way, it is set up as an A4 document for you to print in booklet mode and then cut in half. Mirrored gutters allow space for the holes to be punched. Because (like the party planner) this prints as a single sheet in booklet mode, you could just fold it and use it as a standalone booklet rather than cutting and punching to put in your Filofax.
