Although his creative career started in architecture, UK based artist and designer Alex Khabbazi now explores form and materiality in two dimensions. His process combines physical and digital techniques to create bold, decisive artworks featuring analogue textures and undulating shapes. Aside from designing standalone prints, Alex lends his distinctive style to select musicians, record labels and fashion brands for collaborative releases.

Here are some more cool cats, don't ask me why they are smoking pipes and I wouldn't recommend it but I love these graphic images! Talking of cats, check out my new website side link, it's my cat drawing now animated and pink! Thanks to my husband for putting it together for me:) He now works for Pixar, can't you tell, ha ha!
Information on the charming set of matchbox covers featured in this post is hard to come by. I know they’re Japanese, any idiot can see that. And I know that their date of origin is almost certainly from before 1950. They stem from a collection of matchbox “labels” that is on Flickr and that has recently become one of my favorite places on the Internet. Vintage Japanese matchbox covers are incredible. The person who runs that set of images, who uses the Flickr username maraid, explains that the collection had been the passion of the grandfather of a friend, and also that the images date from “1920s-1940s.” All of the covers feature an image of an unaccompanied woman in a state of undress. There is more than one woman in the series. The images have a very consistent palette of a blue, red, green, and a cream color used mainly for the skin. Sometimes the model is outdoors, but mostly she is indoors. She is never shown doing anything particularly erotic, just hanging out or fooling around with her kitties, that’s was evidently erotic enough back in the day. Some of the images derive from an artist’...

Sure to spark some spontaneous conversation is this exceptional collection of 19th century vintage fireworks packaging and labels which were offered by George Moyer at Morphy's auction last year. Moyer began collecting fireworks at the age of ten when he would pick up discarded packaging at fourth of July celebrations. The two day sale of 1300 different lots brought in $438,000. Many of the rarities, considered to be one-of-a-kinds, went for 4 figures each. Fireworks labels, by their very nature, were meant to be disposable soon after opening, so it is no surprise how rare some of these remarkable examples of graphic design and printing remain to be. By all appearances, some label designs were often illustrated by amateur artists, giving them a charming folk art appeal. Many of the popular designs were crudely copied and the printing was often out of registration. Some, such as the constructivist style Crax Boy, were continually modernized, yet the adorable firecracker lettering remained. Manufacturers would frequently attempt to appeal to American audiences by giving their fireworks macho names evoking power, patriotism and freedom. Space exploration was another popular topic of label design. Add caption And then you get the occasional comical and odd illustrations such as Cat's Brand. And others which are just charming for their raw, unpolished printing, design and nonsensical typographical oddities. Clowns are a perennial source of fright. And more firecracker lettering which appears like it was an afterthought in this design. The more modern Arrow label below fires up with some lightening type for their brand. Then there is the Two Boys Counting Money which simply defies description, as does the Lucky Boy label below. Letterology disclaimer: Be safe out there today folks and remember, "Lay on ground, Light fuse and Retire quickly!"
