This is lesson 7 in our study of Jesus on Wednesday night for preschool. The visuals I decided to create for this class are two per page. The pictures have a flap for the teacher to fold on the dotted line and it will be a stand-up. I plan to add each one as I teach and line them up on the table. Let’s talk about the helpers that Jesus picked. They are called Disciples, which means follower. Jesus picked 12 men to follow Him. Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, and He saw two brothers fishing. (1) Peter and (2) Andrew was throwing a net into the sea. Jesus told them "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately, they left their nets, and they followed Jesus! Then, Jesus saw two more brothers named (3) James and (4) John. They were in a boat fixing their fishing nets. But, when Jesus called to them, they left the boat immediately to follow Jesus. Jesus went to Galilee, and He found (5) Philip and told him to “Follow me.” Philip was from Bethsaida. Philip found (6) Bartholomew. He was also called Nathanael. He asked Philip if anything good could come out of Nazareth and Philip told him to come and see Jesus! Jesus was walking and He saw a man named (7) Matthew sitting in a tax office. Jesus told Matthew to "Follow Me", and Matthew stood up and followed Jesus! Matthew was a tax collector. He collected taxes outside the city of Capernaum. People who came by him had to pay taxes for items they traded. The fishermen also paid taxes on their catches. People didn’t like the tax collectors because the overcharged to make extra money for themselves. They cheated people! (8) Thomas is known as Doubting Thomas because he didn’t believe that Jesus, after He died was raised from the dead. (9) James is also called James the Less. There were 2 men named James. (Point to the fisherman) Then, (10) Simon and (11) Thaddeus. We don’t know too much about these three. Last, we have (12) Judas Iscariot. He is the one that betrayed Jesus. Judas was the treasurer for the Disciples. He betrayed Jesus for money. Jesus told His disciples to “Go, teach all people, baptize and do what I have taught you.” Matthew 28:19-20. You can see more next week when the post in live. The lesson is for Jesus picking the four fishermen for Disciples. So, we decided to do an overall lesson on all the Disciples. This includes the color and black & white. It also has a teacher's visual ready to print. Students can glue as you discuss each Disciple, or this worksheet can be used with a review. I cut the disciples out and put them through my sticker maker before class. They love stickers! It doesn't matter if they mix up the men, since we don't know what they looked like anyway. People didn't like the tax collectors back then, but Jesus told Matthew "Follow Me." And Matthew did. Right away. Some people didn't like that Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners. These Event Cards can be used as smaller visuals and they can be shuffled for the student to re-tell the events and lay them in order. There are three extra pictures to color that I found at Pixabay. The full-page size visuals and pictures-to-color can be downloaded below. This Spin-the-Wheel is available in color and black & white (although the color graphics don't transfer well to black and white this small). These are a fun way to re-tell the events. I added these 'headbands' since they were traveling. Have the students wear these, purchase telescopes or binoculars to spy out the land! Have grapes, figs and pomegranates to find. I added pictures to print that can be hidden and searched for as a last minute or cheaper resource. A stick can be inserted in the vine loop to 'carry' the grapes. There are two grape cluster mazes (one hard and one is easy) and a dot-to-dot. There is a set of Stand-Ups with a fill page and half page background. There is a set of 5 and 10 piece puzzles. The grapes are dots and can be traced and colored, painted, use Dot Markers, etc. There is a Situational Reaction/Action Application page included with ideas for the students to apply this lesson to themselves. Moses and the 10 Commandments is lesson 7 in the second quarter of our Bible study with preschoolers. We have been studying Moses. God sent him to Egypt to talk to Pharaoh. The people have left Egypt and have been traveling for three months. They stopped at Mount Sinai. It was completely covered in smoke. There was thunder and lightning. It was scary! Moses went up on the mountain by himself. While Moses was on Mount Sinai, God gave Moses rules He wanted the people to follow. When God had told Moses everything that the people would need to know, He gave Moses two tablet made of stone. They are called the 10 Commandments. They were written on both sides of the 2 tablets of stone by God’s own finger. These are the rules that were written on the stones: 1. Have no other gods. God loves you and wants you to follow Him. 2. No idols. God wants us to worship Him only. We will talk about this commandment more next week. 3. Do not take the Lord’s name in vain. Taking the Lord's name in vain is using His name for no reason, or using it as a swear word. It is wrong and God tells us not to do it! When someone says "Oh my G*d!" God's name is being used in vain, and it is wrong. When someone says "OMG", it means the same thing, and it is wrong. Christians are not to use God's name this way! Just because your friends do it, doesn't make it right. 4. Keep the Sabbath Day holy. This is the only commandment that God changed when the new laws were put into effect after Jesus died on the cross. All the New Testament Christians met on the first day of the week, which is Sunday. The Sabbath was Saturday. The Sabbath was to be a day for God. The people were not permitted to do anything, or they were breaking the Sabbath laws. (Heb. 7:12, Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:2 Additional articles with scriptures: #1, #2, #3 ) 5. Honor father & mother. Love and obey your parents. 6. Do not murder. God said not to kill others. 7. Do not commit adultery. God wants us to be faithful to our spouse when we are married. 8. Do not steal. God said very simply: it is wrong to take something that is not yours. 3 words! Very clear! Do not steal! 9. Do not lie. This is the same as the last one! 3 words! Do not lie! Tell the truth! 10. Do not covet. This is to want what your friend/neighbor has. Don't be jealous because your friend has something that you want! Be satisfied with what you have! Moses was on Mount Sinai learning the rules that God wanted the people to follow. Moses would continue to lead the people and follow God’s laws. We will learn more about the travels of the Israelites next week. Lesson found in Exodus 19-32. I decided to use the same basic project I use for early elementary, but updated for preschool. I printed the stones on gray cardstock and the color commandments on regular paper. I precut the commandments, paper clipping them in numbered piles. We hand out each number as we review the lesson. If you have a sticker maker, you can make the commandments stickers. I put the longer piece on the front after folding the cut out stones in half. They glued 3 commandments on each of the inside stones, then 4 on the back. Click here to download.
