This château dates back from the 17th century and was built for Nicolas Fouquet, who was then superintendant of finances of Louis XIV. It was one of the first projects that saw the collaboration of architect Le Vau, landscape gardener le Nôtre and decorator Le Brun. But Fouquet had been a bit too ambitious with this castle that displayed his wealth. After a magnificien and ill famed party of 1661, Louis the XIV had him arrested by d'Artagnan.
