Bible ABC's: Y is for Youngest Jacob (& Esau) These lessons can be used without the alphabet theme. Consider these an update with new ideas and printables! So... I kinda went rogue and as I was writing the lesson! I couldn't stop because it seemed like chapters 25-28 all flow together. Each section is short, but is usually divided... especially for younger students. Although this contains the stew trade, the blessing switch and Jacob's ladder dream, they can be divided by chapter. Or, taught as one lesson. The Fact Wheel briefly reviews their birth, the stew trade and the birthright event. Color and black & white are included. These can be used for Jacob and any other appropriate lesson and were kept plain intentionally for this purpose. These are a reminder that God is there for us. Students can color or paint the designs on the banner, door hanger and bookmark. Stickers can be added. String or ribbon can be added to the banner to hang and on the bookmark. A Word Search for chapters 25-28 is included. A stew maze, dot-to-dot and a puzzle are included. The puzzle has been updated with the stew food and standups. Click here to download this file with these updates only. The first is a Reader Worksheet and is divided into the three sections by chapter. This can be used as one worksheet, or review, or if you are dividing the lesson, each section can be used as needed. The wording from the scripture is as easy to read as possible with sight words while keeping to the key points with easy to answer questions. The second is a fill-in-the-blank worksheet. This is sectioned by the number. Black & white only. I designed the Trip Strip to be a cut & glue timeline. This one shown has lines for the students to write about each event. Or, they can write the scriptures. There is another worksheet without the writing space. These can easily be used for mixed age groups. Cut and glue according to directions. This is not included in the application pack. Click here to download part 1 Genesis 25 'The Stew'. Click here to download part 2 Genesis 27 'The Birthright'. Click here to download part 3 Genesis 28 'Jacob's Ladder'. These Event Cards can be used as smaller visuals and they can be shuffled for the student to re-tell the events and lay them in order. The same full-page size visuals and pictures-to-color can be downloaded below. There are alphabet mazes and worksheets included. These are half-sheets and can be used in Interactive Notebooks. Click here to see a free video on how to make and use Interactive Notebooks. There is a set of 5 and 10 piece puzzles. I added this Flip Book because the students love them, and the foldable book below does not include Jacob's dream in chapter 28. It includes the color and black & white. Click here to download the lesson and application pack. There is a one-page foldable book in color and black and white. This does not include Jacob's ladder dream. These pages can also be cut apart and used as flash cards to put the events in order. Click here to download. Click here to download the updated visuals. This file contains visuals for Genesis 25-27. All are not shown. (These are not included in the application pack.) Click here to download the pictures to color. (These are the same as the visuals but are black & white.) This Spin-the-Wheel is available in color and black & white (although the color graphics don't transfer well to black and white this small). These are a fun way to re-tell the events. I added these 'headbands' since they were traveling. Have the students wear these, purchase telescopes or binoculars to spy out the land! Have grapes, figs and pomegranates to find. I added pictures to print that can be hidden and searched for as a last minute or cheaper resource. A stick can be inserted in the vine loop to 'carry' the grapes. There are two grape cluster mazes (one hard and one is easy) and a dot-to-dot. There is a set of Stand-Ups with a fill page and half page background. There is a set of 5 and 10 piece puzzles. Today's lesson finishes up the book of Genesis and Joseph! Next quarter will be Moses and there is so much to learn from him! We continued our Joseph in Egypt lesson with the kids wearing the Egyptian outfits. There is a quick printable project for today. It is a good reminder to love God no matter what is happening in your life. Joseph stayed faithful while he was a servant and stayed faithful even with all the power he was given in Egypt. There are so many lessons that could be learned from Joseph & Moses! Thanks for stopping by! Review: This is our last week that we will be learning about Joseph. His brothers sold him, and the traders took him to Egypt where he was sold again to Potiphar. Last week, the butler and chief baker were put in prison with Joseph. Joseph told them what their dreams meant. When Pharaoh needed his dreams interpreted, the butler remembered Joseph. Joseph told Pharaoh what the dreams meant. They were going to have 7 good years and then 7 years of famine. (Not enough food) Pharaoh put Joseph second in command; Joseph only had to answer to Pharaoh. God was with Joseph. He had two sons. Joseph stored up all the food he could during the 7 good years and today, our lesson is during the 7 famine years. This week's lesson is found in Genesis 42-50. During the famine, Joseph’s family is worried about food and decided to go to Egypt to buy corn. Only ten of the brothers went, Benjamin didn’t go. Joseph is the governor (or prince) of Egypt. Remember, everyone had to talk to Joseph in order to buy food in Egypt. When they went before Joseph, and bowed, he recognized them, but they didn’t know who Joseph was. Joseph asked them “Why are you here” and the brothers told Joseph that they wanted to buy food. Joseph said “No, you are spies.” They told Joseph that they were brothers and the youngest was still at home with their father. Joseph told them to send one brother home to get the youngest and the others would have to stay in Egypt until they proved they were not spies. The brothers started talking to each other saying that this was punishment for what they did to Joseph. Joseph was using an interpreter so the brothers thought he couldn’t understand them, but when Joseph heard what they said, he had to turn away to cry. Joseph tied up Simeon and had his brethren's sacks filled with the corn and he ordered the money they brought to be put in the sacks. When the brothers went to feed the animals, they found the money. Joseph's brothers almost passed out! (Genesis 42:28) They were so scared to find the money in the corn sacks! They told their father that the governor of Egypt talked mean to them and accused them of being spies. When the food ran out again, the brothers worried about returning to Egypt for more food. But Egypt was the only country with food to sell. They told Jacob that the governor told them not to return unless they brought their youngest brother. The brothers returned to Egypt and told Joseph’s servant that they had returned with the money that was in their sacks last time and enough money to buy more food. Simeon was brought out to them. Then, the brothers were taken into Joseph’s house and waited until noon to see Joseph. They bowed at his feet (just as Joseph's dreams said they would!) and Joseph asked how they were and is their father still alive? They told Joseph that their father is good and then Joseph looked up and saw his young brother, Benjamin. Joseph had to leave, because he was so happy to see Benjamin, he wanted to cry. Later, Joseph fed his brothers and sent them gifts. Joseph sent Benjamin 5 times the gifts that he sent to his other brothers. Joseph had their sacks filled full of food. Again, he had their money put in the sacks and he had his silver cup put in Benjamin’s sack. After just a little time passed, Joseph had his servants follow the brothers and ask them if they repaid Joseph by stealing from him. Joseph's servants searched every sack and found the money and silver cup. When Joseph told them that the one’s sack that held the silver cup would have to stay and be a servant, they said that they couldn’t do that. They told Joseph that their father would die if they came back without Benjamin. Joseph started to cry. He sent all of his servants out and with only his brothers left, Joseph told them that he was Joseph, their brother! He said not to be upset, because it was God’s plan for him to be in Egypt during this famine. Joseph hugged Benjamin and told them to bring their families to Egypt to live because there was still 5 years of famine, and he didn’t want them to die. Joseph gave his brothers wagons and food to get back home. When the brothers told Jacob that Joseph was still alive and governor of Egypt, Jacob couldn’t believe what they were saying. Jacob decided to go see Joseph. He was 130 years old. Joseph climbed in his chariot to go see Jacob when he arrived in Egypt, and they were so happy to see each other! Jacob went before Pharaoh and after they talked, Joseph took his family out to the best land in Egypt. Pharaoh told them to live there. Jacob was able to meet Joseph’s 2 sons Manasseh & Ephraim. Jacob lived in Egypt for 17 years before he died (147 years). Joseph was 110 when he died, and he was buried in Egypt. For the kids take home, I used the above brown bags (far right, at Hobby Lobby) and we put corn inside. I found the clear glasses at Dollar Tree and used the silver paint to paint them. I gave them a money bag for that part of the lesson, then they added the silver cup at the correct time. The brown money bags I purchase on eBay a lot cheaper, and they come from out of the country, so give yourself time if you plan to buy them that way. For the teacher visuals I used during the lesson, I found the silver cup at Party City, I used the same money bags the kids were given. I found the bags at Hobby Lobby for $1.99, in their assorted bag department. Then I added the corn (Purchased at TSC, or local farm supply store) into both bags. For the first bag, I just added the money bag, then the second bag, I added the money bag and the small silver cup. Today's project is a quick one but is a great reminder to love God and our family. Joseph put God first and obey Him, and he still loved his brothers even though they sold him into slavery. These are in black & white so they can be printed on color cardstock/paper. Cut the 2 large hearts as one so it can be folded in half. I used a hole punch and added ribbon so the kids can hang on these on their door handles. Or you can just fold them like a card. The kids will have heart stickers to add to them, or you can let them draw and color hearts. (The photo shows the front & back.) You can print it here. Click here to print. You can print all the Genesis worksheets here. Click here to download the 30 updated visuals. This is a variety pack for Genesis 39-46 since it covers so much! There is a visual(s) for each event that is in these chapters. Click here to download the pictures to color. (These are the same as the visuals but are black & white.) We are moving right along in our study of Genesis. The KIDDOS are enjoying Exploring the Book of Genesis. This week we will be learning about Adam and Eve's SIN and the consequences of their sin. This is our DO YOU KNOW? wall. In my opinion when the KIDDOS can answer these Who? What? When? Where? Where? Why? and How is this important to me? questions then they have a real grasp on the lesson. We have a new card to add to our GOD'S AWESOME PLAN FOR MAN timeline. We have a new word for our WORD WALL. I want the KIDDOS to understand the meaning of the word SLY. Since I will be using this word during the story as a description of the serpent. The KIDDOS memory verse is James 4:19. We will sing it to the tune: "Ten Little Indians." The KIDDOS TAKE HOME project is this spiral serpent. They will color it, cut it out, add a tongue and an eye. The KIDDOS Review Game is simple. They will get to PICK a piece of fruit from the tree...and then answer the question. I purchased the fruit at Hobby Lobby a LOOONG time ago. I made the tree by printing out a poster size clipart from Printmaster. I then printed out questions on sticker paper and attached the questions to the various fruits. The fruit is attached to the tree with Velcro dots. Oh, that snake---it is a PET toy and came from Dollar Tree. I have had it for a long time...so, I do not know if they still have them there or not....I will try to check and see if they still have them the next time I am at Dollar Tree. I enjoy having items for the KIDDOS to place in our GOD AWESOME PLAN boxes....This week they will be adding a snake....This way when we REVIEW the book of Genesis---when I get the snake out they will be able to tell me WHAT event the snake represents. Of course, I will teach them that it represent the FALL of ADAM and EVE...The CONSEQUENCES of SIN... and a WARNING of SATAN'S SLYNESS. Next week will be our REVIEW week. The KIDDOS will be doing this activity to add to their EXPLORER JOURNAL. They will color the picture, add the SUN and FLOWER stickers and the SERPENT in the tree. The KIDDOS will get to choose their FLOWERS and the color of their serpent. I hope you can see the 3D flower sticker and sun. I think the KIDDOS will LOVE making these. This is a SAD lesson for me to teach...however, there are so many important LESSONS for the KIDDOS to learn. They must learn to OBEY GOD. They must learn that GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING. They must learn that LYING never solves anything. They must learn that BLAMING others is NOT acceptable. They must learn that SIN has CONSEQUENCES. My prayer is they will learn and apply these concepts. Blessings, Ronda
