Hi all! Happy Monday! It's Amber from Mrs. Masters Kinder Love and I'm so happy to be sharing with you today! I can't believe that I'm already planning for the end of the school year! My head has been spinning with all the amazing ideas I see on blogs, Pinterest and instagram! Today I am sharing 5 ideas with you that I think are AMAZINGLY, AWESOME and they DO NOT break the bank!! Enjoy!! Class Pic Collage I love this idea from Jo's PhotoMojo! A lot of us have done this individually with students and sent it home for each child's family at the end of the school year. BUT this would be such a memorable piece for students to look back on when they are older and remember each of their classmates! Slideshow If you are anything like me, you take a million pictures of your kids throughout the year, and then don't really know what to do with all of them at the end of the year. Then you end up with thousands of pics on your computer that are slightly (or majorly) unorganized and just a bit of a mess. By creating a slideshow, you pick out the most memorable pictures of the year. Then you don't have to feel bad about getting rid of the 500 that you probably don't need. This idea from The Littlest Scholars is a thoughtful gift for students and families! QR Code Gift Cards! Can I just say GENIUS!! This idea from FlapJack is an easy twist on making video slideshows for your kids! You can create cards with QR codes to the videos that you've created throughout the school year! It's easier and much cheaper than buying cd's for every student in class! You can give each student a few cards to share with their families! Name Frames I am absolutely in love with these name frames from Mrs. MeGown's 2nd Grade Safari! I love the process that she used by having her students write down a word to describe each person in the class! She even included it as a freebie! You can grab her freebie and read all about this gift here! You can find frames for a dollar a piece at the Dollar Tree! Such a meaningful gift that students will be able to enjoy for years to come! Beach Balls! I've seen a couple different things you can do with beach balls for the end of the school year. The first is just using it as a fabulous/inexpensive summer gift! Check out Read Write Sing A Kindergarten Story blog post and pick up the free tags!! I have also seen this idea floating around Pinterest and think it's such a cute take on the memory book. Mrs. Patton's Patch explains it all here!! Each student gets a beach ball. You can write "We had a ball in ____ grade!" in Sharpie. Students can sign their names to the beach balls! This idea goes perfect with the popular "Beach Party" theme on the last day! Here's the great news....you can get 12 pack of beach balls for about $7.00 on Amazon!! I hope you were able to find a few fabulous ideas to get you thinking about the end of the year! Have a wonderful week!

Hey, y'all!!! Kacey is taking a break from her Friday Five linky... and Cara over at the First Grade Parade is filling in for awhile with Favorite Pins Friday. Since I have been out of school... I have kinda used Pinterest as professional development. It counts, right? I also believe that I have Pinterest ADD. My pins are so scattered sometimes. I usually find tons of inspiration from what my friends have already pinned {they're cool like that}... but sometimes I like to be edgy and click on "everything" and see what comes up! Anywho... here's some of my favorite pins this week: Teaching related: This idea from Makoodle is just what I need! I always take the kiddos pictures on the first day holding the frame that says "First Day of First Grade" but with the yucky cinder block wall behind them. This is going to make a HUGE difference this year. {and cheap} How cool is this idea from Ashley over at Just Reed?!?! I think this is really eye catching and that parents would really dig it. Added it to my list of things to do when I go back for pre-planning! Last teaching one... this is from Sheryl at Notable Music Studio. What a neat idea to make kidlets think about slowing down while they do their work. Chuckle: Bwahahaha.... right? I hate getting up in the morning. Saw this on Pinterest and almost snorted my coffee out! So true...and so stinkin' funny! Funny, right? :) This one doesn't go back to an original pin... just an image! BUT... whoever made this one deserves a prize. 'Cause it is FULLY AWESOME! Nom Nom Nom: This looks like heaven on a plate.... from Not Quite Nigella! Grilled Steak Tacos with Cilantro Chimichurri Sauce from Feasting at Home!!! I've got lots of other good ones... but going to keep my post short and sweet. Do you follow me on Pinterest? If you don't... you can click HERE to find me! Hope y'all are having a FAB Friday... and that your weekend will be amazing!!! Talk to you soon!
I have to confess I wasn't going to make a slideshow this year...I usually make one but I have been so busy getting everything else ready and I didn't feel my picture taking this year was as good as years past. But then I was talking with a parent this morning and she talked me into it. So, I was putting all my pictures into an iPhoto album which is SUPER easy to turn into a slideshow....and I realized I needed an ending. While I was blog stalking a few months ago I found THIS super cute Mother's Day idea from Sandy at Soaring Through Second Grade and it hit me! I could re-do this but change it to what they want to be when they grow up! Here is my set-up! And here's what it really looks like without the magical special effects of the Camera + app! The font is Howser by Kevin and Amanda. I also downloaded the Big Words app for on my iPad for 99 cents and we were ready to go! Here are a few of the final products! If you're wondering why these two appear on the blog quite a bit it's because they are teacher kids and I have permission to use their photos exclusively on the blog : ) We had quite a few future teachers!! After I took them, I just dropped the picture into the iPhoto album with all our other pictures and the slideshow is complete! It was a very easy and great way to end our slideshow!!
Plan to host a party celebrating your graduate this past year. Here are a few ideas that will help make planning easy for graduation day!

Can you believe this school year has come to a close? I am looking forward to a fresh new chapter in my "book" of teaching. Boy this book could tell a lot of stories! A long time ago someone actually told me to keep a book of things my students have said or done...kinda like "Kids Say the Darndest Things". Has anyone done that? Anyways moving on, I thought I would share a few things my class and I did for the last few weeks of school. It ended up being a wonderful ending to their first grade year. Individually they were all so unique and sweet. It was hard to send them off to second grade. Here is a look at what we did... At the end of the school year I always make a first grade memory book for each student. Below you will find a page that I include within this book. Another activity I have my students do is a writing activity to show their growth. They write a story about themselves and draw a self portrait in the beginning of the school year and at the end of the school year. I love seeing their development in writing! Click on the picture to check out the booklet for students... Click on the picture to check out the booklet for students... Another activity we do the last week of school is our Nature Journal. First my students gather toilet paper rolls to create binoculars. Then they received their journals. I paired my students off so they can work with someone and enjoy walking around the field together. They are able to work on these journals independently, but obviously I am their to supervise and answer questions. Students love filling out this journal and then sharing with the class what they observed in nature. Not only are they making observations, but using their map skills, writing skills, and weather knowledge. Click on the pictures to check out the nature journal... These are just a few ideas to use at the end of your school year within your classroom. I hope you all enjoy your summer break!

Last week was finally our first week of school. It was great!! I was thinking about posting some of the cool things we did and realize...
Yes! I am finally done! Friday was my last day! My last week of school was AMAZING! It was great because I kept teaching. Oh don't get me wrong we watched a movie or two this week. I ain't gonna lie to you! But I kept them VERY busy the other 4 and 1/2 hours of the day ! ! ! If I stop teaching they stop behaving! This is often worse than the start of school, because I find myself so annoyed with them. "They KNOW better than to act this way." I think in my frazzled brain! I also know better than to ask them to silent read for 45 minutes so I can clean... So I planned a packed week including a fabulous science activity. This activity is SUPER engaging, easy to pull together, CHEAP, and makes me love being a teacher! I sent kids around with a black trash bag asking for bottles. I forgot to tell them we only needed 30, they came back with 100. Little over achievers, just like there teacher! But that was perfect because I used the extra bottles to let them do the project at home too. I brought a feather, gravel, pennies, a sponge to school. I meant to bring foil, but forgot... Oh well. So I cut up some plastic instead of using the foil. You have to roll with it... We huddled up around a big bowl of water and tested out a feather and talked about why it floats, then we dropped a rock in and talked about why it sank. We generalized about why things float and sink. Imagine a picture here Why no picture? Remember I am FRAZZLED! My teacher brain cannot remember everything. Then the kids grabbed one of everything and headed to their desks to work in buddy pairs. They predicted what their supplies would do. Would they sink or float? Then, in go the sponge, penny, rock, and plastic or foil. Kids know that they must communicate and take turn at all times when we are working as teams. Tip: only fill the bottle only 1/3 of the way. This means the label we add will not cover the floating objects. Tip 2: add the label last so that it does not get soaked. Then each child got a thinking mat. They drew and labeled each object inside their bottle, then they explained why some things sink and some things float . Friends, I tell you they were smiling, engaged, leaning, and most importantly not complaining, pinching, chit chatting, or doing any of the stuff that drives us crazy as teachers! I made bulletin board component for this because … well that’s what I do…I really like bulletin boards…. I created the lettering. All you have to do is print and cut. I have way more than 14 kids ( I have 30) but this fits in the camera frame. I also did this photo idea from Primary Practice. The minute I saw I knew I needed to do it! The results are just too danged cute! And it took them a long time to do the writing! SCORE for being able to clean up my room. I think the parents appreciated that their child did some meaningful work this last week of school. The kids glued their picture to the paper below and wrote all about what their jobs will be like and why they chose that job. This little guy (who is a gem and my Citizen of the Year award winner) wrote that he “will try be very smart in the way he fights and try not to die”. But don’t hear darkness in what he said. Nope, not this kid. He is sunshine and helpfulness. He wrote that with optimism and a cheerful plan for being a great “army guy”. If you would like the writing template, grab it my dear, and enjoy! Next year I will staple the students’ writing next to the giant lettering for an Open House display. I miss the ipad… darn thieves. Are you in love with the new trend of grey and yellow? I think it is a nod back to the 80’s grey and peach trend. I liked it then, and I love the new variation now! I am Loving this bag! Polka dots and chevron, too cute! So what do you think would happen if you throw last year’s grade book into the pool as part of your “Welcome Summer” victory dance? Will it sink or float? I plan to find out today! I’ll let you know!
