A set of 5 themes with a total of 20 pictures to inspire your child to participate in "poke" drawing. These themes include transport, fruit, faces, the garden and shapes. Preparation involves placing a cork mat on the table, then coloured cardstock (or paper) and then the printed template. Use a push pin to poke each dot to create a drawing. For the best effect, hold the finished picture up to a window for the light to shine through the holes!
This is a great activity if you are looking for an opportunity to engage your entire class! These cards always take a few extra minutes to get through the first time. I always time my students, and then let them go through them a second and possibly third time to try to beat their record! The teacher simply prints, laminates, and cuts the cards then passes the cards out to students. Students must listen and concentrate as the cards are read. Once a child hears the first word on his card, he is able to read his card aloud. This set is perfect for advanced PreK students , Kindergarten students, or beginning first graders. Aloha friends! I have been enjoying the last day of my Fall break and now I am prepping for the next few weeks of school. This is a busy month with lots of fun happening. We will be starting out Nocturnal animal unit this week. I am doing many of the same activities as I did last year. {Click Here For My Post}{Here Is Another} I am also prepping for Halloween. We will be making these cute Ghost Riddles together. This template is available in TpT store and comes with other activities. I am adding some fun crafts to our Word Work and Writing centers for the last few weeks of October. These simple paper crafts are much more fun than worksheets and your kids will love making them. I just sketched them out and used construction paper and google eyes. We will be working on contractions so this Contraction Spider will be perfect. Another skill that we will be covering are prefixes and suffixes. These ghosts are a fun way to get kids to write and create. You could brainstorm some ideas together before they create their own. How about using Frankie to write synonyms? You can make some fun shape poems using any kind of Halloween or holiday shape. Have you been to Target lately? They have some pretty amazing goodies in the Dollar section!! I am going to use those little stickers for rebus stories and the pumpkins are perfect for the shape poems. Those post-its are great for some fun bookmarks and can be used by my students to write bucket-fillers. I seriously had to put many of the items that I originally found back, I was WAY over budget!! I love Halloween and I know my kiddos are going to be so excited for these activities. To top it all off ...

Oktoberfest begins around mid-September. These Oktoberfest Activities and Crafts for Kids will help you teach your children all about this Holiday!
Tonight is movie night. We are watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and having grinchy treats. The kids are excited about it. I decided to have a Grinchy preschool today before we watch the movie. Read “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss … a holiday classic. Little Rhyming Books Point out several rhyming words in the book. Read a sentence or two and have the kids guess what the rhyming word could be. Staple several small papers together, making the bottom piece longer than the rest. Write a word chunk on the last piece of paper (so you can see it as you read the whole book.) We used –at and –un. Have the kids help you think of rhyming words and name the beginning letter sound. Write that letter on one flap. Continue until the whole rhyming flap book is complete. Help the kids read their rhyming book. Grinch Coloring … we used this for part of our next game below. Print a copy of the Grinch. We used the page here. Color the Grinch and cut it out. Cut out a simple Grinch body and legs from green paper. Glue the Grinch’s head to the body. Grinch’s Heart Game In the book, the Grinch’s heart grows three sizes on Christmas. Cut out several red hearts. Talk with the kids about why the Grinch’s heart grew and how it made him feel. Explain to the kids that the Spirit of Christmas makes our hearts feel good and “grow” inside. Today, every time they do something kind for someone else (make their bed, do a job for them, put their lunch dishes away…) they can leave a heart for that person. When they find a heart, they get to glue it to the Grinch. Don’t forget to remind the kids and ask them how they feel when they do something nice for someone else. (Don’t forget to do several small acts of service yourself!) Grinch Bead Bracelet Give the kids a length of elastic. Set out a bowl of green beads. Tape one end of the elastic to the table. Let the kids string green Grinch beads to make a bracelet. Tie and wear! Grinch Movie Night Watch the classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” Enjoy Grinchy Treats Grinchy Popcorn … original recipe here. Sweet and salty. This got thumbs up all around Pop popcorn and remove the seeds. Melt green candy melts in the microwave according to the directions. Pour all over the popcorn and stir well. Spread the popcorn over a sheet of parchment and let cool. Grinchy Milkshake Blend green mint ice cream and milk in a blender. Pour into glasses and serve. Another Grinch drink with lime sherbet and 7up here. Grinchy Snacks green grapes cucumber slices, broccoli and dip green M&Ms

I have posted about this before, but I REALLY love the Pass the Pumpkin song/activity. This year, I came up with a new powerpoint for my first graders and I used it just this morning and am really happy with how well the students sang and played. One thing I love about this song is that it is "safe" for schools that do not celebrate Halloween; there is the word "spooky" but that is, technically, NOT a Halloween word. I hope you enjoy the slides below.. save each one and put into a ppt. or email me at [email protected] and I'll send you the pdf! The directions and song are on slide 2, slide 3 is a beat slide and then subsequent slides show the progression from iconic rhythms to actual notation. The final slides show what instruments play on the various parts of the song. Happy Fall!

My students have been studying the human body, and recently we have been learning about internal parts vs. external parts. I love teaching about the human body, because the students are always so interested and attentive, finding out about what is really going on beneath their skin. This topic isn’t necessarily part of the standards, but I like to teach it to give my students a better understanding of what happens within our bodies, and how we can keep them healthy. It’s also a great topic around Red Ribbon Week when we talk about the dangerous effects of drugs and alcohol. I start our conversation by reading the book Me and My Amazing Body by Joan Sweeney, if you would like to purchase this book, just click on my affiliate link below. I’ve also compiled an extensive list of the best science books for kindergarten in a wide array of topics! Me and My Amazing Body After we read the book, we do a whole class sort identifying which body parts are internal, and which are external. I then have the students complete an assessment page to check their understanding of the topic. If you would like a free copy […]
