This wide mowed path is quite wonderful. It probably wasn't always flanked by tall grasses left to go wild but it transitioned perfectly. The old house is charming too. Enjoy your Sunday and picture me hiding in my my cottage with the air conditioning running with three days of temps in the 90s coming up. Stay cool. xo

Whether it’s caught your eye in the form of a flowy peasant dress or a rustic interior, you’ve likely been exposed to the new modern prairie trend in some form or another. Here, we aren’t referring to the architectural Prairie-Style, an early American architectural style similar to the arts and cr
Nodding Fescue, (Festuca subverticillata), can often be referenced as Festuca obtusa and is found in areas with partial to medium shade. This cool season grass tolerates more shade than most grass species and grows in moist to mesic conditions. The wispy panicles and sprawling stems are seen through mesic hardwood forests in the midwest, often growing near Sugar Maples. The larvae of the butterfly Indian Skipper (Hesperia sassacus) feeds on the foliage of Nodding Fescue. It is also palatable for domesticated herbivore species such as cattle, sheep, and horses.

Black-tailed Prairie Dog in Dierenpark Emmen, Zoo in Emmen, city in the Netherlands. The Black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) is one of five species of the prairie dog. The prairie dog is a member of the squirrel family and closely related to the ground squirrel. Prairie dogs are named for their habitat and warning call, which sounds similar to a dog's bark. There are five different species of prairie dogs. Black-tailed prairie dogs are generally tan in color, with a lighter colored belly. Their 7.6 to 10 cm tail has a black tip on it, which is where their name is derived from. Adults can weigh from 0.65 to 1.4 kg, males are typically heavier than females. Body length is from 30 to 43 cm. They have small ears, but keen hearing, and small, dark eyes, with good vision. Black-tailed prairie dogs are native to the western North American dry, short-grass prairies, from extreme south Canada, through the United States, and into north Mexico. Prairie dogs are very social animals. Kissing, hugging, or touching noses are common greetings among the individuals of the coterie. They are active in the day. They live in large colonies or towns. A prairie dog town may have thousands of prairie dogs in it. A prairie dog town is separated into smaller neighborhoods and the neighborhoods are divided into smaller family groups. These towns are a complex series of underground tunnels which keep the prairie dog safe from fires and predators. Among the list of predators are badgers, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, eagles and hawks. The seeds stems, roots, leaves, flowers, grasses and weeds around their town make up most of the prairie dog's diet. It will sometimes eat grasshoppers, beetles and other insects. Zwartstaartprairiehond in Dierenpark Emmen. ______________________________________________________________________________ All rights reserved.
