How do you make a lid from an enclosed form on the potters wheel? This is a question I get asked often when people see my salt cellars and sugar jars. I've made a new "Quick Pottery" video on the first step to making the enclosed form.
All of my items are lovingly handcrafted, without the use of a potter's wheel. The basic shape emerges during the process, while the details only emerge when the leather-hard clay is worked with various tools. So each piece is unique, and above all… imperfect. The outside of the vase is unglazed, giving it a naturally matte, velvety shimmering appearance. This is also ensured by the finely chamotted clay, with a grain size of just 0 - 0.2 mm. So that you can fill the vase with water, it is colorlessly glazed on the inside and fired at over 1200°C. This means it can even go in the dishwasher, although it prefers a gentle hand wash.

The interior is left unglazed and on the outside hand carved patterns are inlaid with a charcoal matte glaze and shapes are glazed with mustard yellow and sage green. Some of the raw clay is left exposed to highlight the beauty of the clay and create a variety of texture between glazed and unglazed surfaces. After the final glaze firing the bottom of the planter plate is sanded super smooth so as to not cause any scratches to your tabletops! * Height is 3 inches, width is 4.5 inches (approx.) * Hand made (wheel-thrown) and hand painted * High temperature fired in an electric kiln * All work is dishwasher and microwave safe although it is always best to hand wash handmade pottery * All glazes used are food safe and lead free All pieces are hand made, one at a time in my home studio which means that individual items are unique and may vary slightly from the photo in the listing. This handmade design carafe lends itself to all tables with its sober and sophisticated look. Indeed, the specificity of the range is cleverly expressed on the pitcher. The ripples draw the unique silhouette of the pottery and also allow a perfect grip of the carafe. The philosophy of the brand is then revealed, bringing in the banal everyday object. Each ceramic is shaped by hand on the potter's wheel, before being left to dry for several days. Then, the parts are turned, that is to say fixed again on the lathe for a refining and a smoothing of the walls. After a first firing, the decanters are delicately enamelled in order to bring out the first two waves of the piece with finesse, letting the raw material express itself on the remaining wavelets. Finally, the pitcher makes a final pass in cooking which will finalize the creation The joy of this design carafe is its longevity, both in the timelessness of its design and the solidity of its material, sandstone, which will allow it to survive the years in your company. Complete your table with plates and bowls to emphasize the design and sobriety of your pitcher. Or reinvent your decanter into a vase with fresh flowers to brighten up your living room. Capacity: 520ml Pitcher care: Dishwasher and microwave safe Each product is unique. It may have slight differences in size, shape or color compared to the photo on the site.
