My last Christmas inspired recipe is for Fruity Aromatic Slow Cooker Ham (Gammon). This lovely baked ham recipe is simplicity itself and the results are spectactular. It's a lesson in how to transform a piece of supermarket ham/gammon into a delicious festive meal…..and for ease, you cook this in your slow cooker, or on the slow cooker setting of a multi-cooker, such as a Ninja Foodi, Instant Pot or Crock Pot. The ham/gammon joint is cooked in a seductive bath of cider, with spices, apples and oranges to give you a beautifully moist aromatic gammon joint, which will be the highlight of any festive dinner table. It's also fantastic in sandwiches, when served with a cheeseboard, or in soups and pies. I bought a 1.2 kilo ham/gammon joint, one of the ones that are vacuum-packed and are only about £4 to £5 each (in December 2023) It gave us at least 8 meals. I initally served it with mashed potatoes, parsley sauce and pease pudding, then with fried eggs and chips. Then came the delight of good home-cooked ham sandwiches and ham salad. Finally I added all the bits to a pea and ham soup. If you aren't a fan of alcohol in cooking, then use apple juice in place of the cider, (which is called hard cider in the USA) I hope you enjoy this last festive recipe for Fruity Aromatic Slow Cooker Ham (Gammon), and please do let me know if you make it.
