It’s fun to “feed” the unicorn!! What do unicorns find scrumptious?? Well, rainbow iced coffees, smoothies, milkshakes and malts of course! Funny enough, these have articulation targets on them :) I hope you and your students enjoy! This is a simple but fun activity is perfect for practicing speech sounds because it provides articulation motivation. In fact, it can make any skill drill more wayyyyy more fun. In addition to the many sound decks (FOR EVERY PHONEME), it also includes TWO open ended decks which can provide positive reinforcement for ANY skill (language, fluency, voice, sight words, math facts, etc.) These cards can also be used to practice labeling pictures or describing (as with the EET- Expanding Expression Tool) Along with this 43 page download you will need a paper bag, gift bag or box of some sort (such as an empty tissue box) to create your hungry unicorn. I use Lakeshore Learning’s “mystery box” which is one of my favorite therapy tools. Detailed directions for prep are included! Download the preview for a closer look at photos, directions, and how to play. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE INCLUDED IN THE DOWNLOAD: - SIX large, colorful and cute unicorn heads in SIX different colors to help you create the adorable unicorn your students will "feed" (don't forget the slurping and gulping sounds!) - SIX small, colorful and cute unicorn heads in SIX different colors if you want to give your students each their own unicorn (I use Crystal Light or Pop Tart boxes for these) - 540 ARTICULATION CARDS in picture/word form for readers and non-readers - a deck for EACH of the following sounds in various positions: /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/, /f/, /v/, /l/, /l/ blends, sh, ch, j, th, /s/, /z/, /s/ blends, /r/, vocalic r, /r/ blends, /m/, /n/, /h/, /w/, "y," -ng and vocalic r variations *** The 20 cards per sound include targets in all positions of words (a combination of initial, medial and final) UNLESS the sound is rare or doesn’t exist in a certain position. Blends are also an exception. - 2 open ended decks which are fun as positive reinforcement for ANY task. One open ended deck simply includes rainbow drinks that are great for reinforcing any task while the other has a “blank” white space on them for you to write your own targets (sight words, math facts, artic words, word families, antonyms, synonyms, etc.). TO USE: Have students drill with the articulation cards that match their speech targets and goals. When students articulate pictures/words to your liking (1X, 3X, 5X, in a phrase, in a sentence, etc.) they get to feed the unicorn! Somehow they never tire of it! If students are working at the word level, simply ask them to say the name of the picture from their sound deck X number of times to your liking and then allow them to feed the card to the elf. If a student is working at the phrase level, give him/her a carrier phrases (Unicorns slurp _____, Unicorns drink _____, Unicorns love _____) prior to letting the student “feed” the unicorn. At the sentence level, ask students to repeat or make a sentence with the picture they are about to "feed" the unicorn. If you like this activity, there are more fun “feeding” products in my TpT store with more arriving all the time! **HERE'S A TIP: If you print TWO of each page/deck, you can also use the cards for matching or Go Fish. Just print, cut, and use! No wasted paper! Laminating is recommended for durability. I hope your little ones enjoy that and that YOU get tons of use from it for years to come!
