Students create a slice of their favorite piece of pizza. Staple the slice to the lined paper. During literacy centers or a writing lesson, students write a description of their favorite kind of pizza on the lined paper. Contents: Option 1: Copy plain slices for everyone, and copy the toppings on colored paper. Have students cut and glue desired toppings. Option 2: Give students a slice of their favorite kind of pizza (on white paper), and have them color. Guess what!?!?! It is finally time - I have a a free printable sticker set that is made for both Cricut users & Silhouette users! I've started to create some stickers for both machines. I made these both because I love pizza and because I remember going to get pizza or eating pizza at home with my family. So this would be great to mark family nights, too. Friday seems to be a rather popular pizza day, so I feel that it is appropriate to share the flannel pizzas that I used in story time this past week for Flannel (Pizza) Friday. You can read about the books and songs we used for pizza week here, below are the flanneled parts. Whilen looking for a flannel story or activity for our pizza theme I came across this fun song posted by Jen in the Library. It is a pizza song much like Bingo and goes: There is a treat that's fun to eat And Pizza is it's name-o. P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A, P-I-Z-Z-A And Pizza is it's name-o. Then, because it looks so yummy, we ate one. The kids LOVED this. I held out the flannel slice and we all happily pretend chewed it up. We went back to the song and replaced the P with a clap and then ate another slice and so on until we had eaten all of the pizza. When I sang the song with my toddler group we kept saying Pizza, even if the letters said IZZA or ZA etc. I could not remember how the Bingo song goes (this is what happens when you start to get older and accumulate too many children's songs in your head - just wait until you forget the tune to Twinkle little star!). I think I have heard Bingo sung both ways, so we just kept going with the full word. And, if you just go with it like your way is right everyone will follow along and figure maybe they had it wrong :) (Until a 3 year old informs you of your error, I had one in tears over Little Bunny Foo-Foo once and I sang that one 'correctly'.) The pizza slices are made of flannel and decorated with various toppings. I made each one with different toppings just for fun. I did color the white flannel with yellow and brown sharpies to get a better looking 'cheese' layer. The letters are paper that was laminated with a velcro piece on the back. I figured this way I could take them off if I ever needed pizza slices for another story. For play time after story time I wanted to incorporate the pizza theme so I made up some flannel pizzas. There is crust, sauce, cheese (cut yarn), and various toppings. I saved a few pizza boxes over the weekend and lined them with some cardstock and let the kids use those to serve and deliver their pizza creations. They had a great time with it. Then we made some posters advertising our walk. We talked about the features of a good poster. I think that they understand about leaving some white space so you can see the important parts! I have been struggling with 2nd grade recently. I have two 2nd grade classes who are just perfect little angels and I have two other 2nd grade classes who are little demons. It is really hard to plan for them because I can never anticipate what the evil classes are going to do! I was searching through the Music K-8 CD's and I found Pizza Love. I remember singing this song in elementary music and when I listened to it, I remembered all the words. So I decided to create a pizza lesson for 2nd grade. Of course we will sing the song, which I'm sure they will love. Then I am planning a rhythm pattern composition activity that I have adapted from the Music K-8 idea bank. Using pieces of pizza with note values attached, the students will make a pizza. This will be a good way to start teaching the number of beats in a measure, without them knowing it. I've been seeing a lot of activities relating rhythms and syllables of words on Pinterest and I think those are fabulous. I made one specifically for the pizza lesson using pizza toppings. I am pretty confident that 2nd grade will be able to do this because when I talked about syllables and creating lyrics in 1st grade, the students knew exactly what to do.

Great Pizza Books! My kids love Pizza Pat by Rita Golden Gelmen. It has a similar format to “This is the House that Jack Built” … I love the descriptive words they use. Pete’s a Pizza by William Steig. On a rainy day, Pete’s dad makes Pete into a pizza! Pizza Parlor Play Use foam craft paper to cut out pizza toppings (green peppers, black olives, red pepperoni, yellow shredded cheese, white mushrooms). Gather a pizza pan, plastic utensils, rolling pin, apron and plates. Make a simple menu by folding a piece of cardstock in half. Glue and label one of each of your foam pizza topping inside. Let the kids use a pad of paper and pencil to pretend taking orders from the menu, making, serving and eating the pizza! NOTE: for more fun, grab a couple of clean, empty pizza boxes (smaller sizes) from a local pizza parlor. Let the kids make their pizzas in the boxes, close them up and deliver to their customers! Work together to make a Pizza! Cut out a large round circle “pizza crust” Work together with your preschooler to build a yummy pizza. Paint it red for pizza sauce. Snip yellow or white yarn into pieces and add as cheese. Add ham (pink squares or triangles) Add pepperoni buttons. Add anything else you or your preschooler can come up with! Slice up at the end of the day and let everyone have a piece. Pizza Rhyme! Make a simple paper pizza (or use the one from above once it’s dry) Cut it into 6 pieces (or however many you like). Repeat the rhyme, removing one slice each time! 6 pieces of pizza tasty as can be, (child's name) can eat a slice and leave some for me. 5 pieces of pizza tasty as can be, (child's name) can eat a slice and leave some for me. [continue counting down] 1 piece of pizza tasty as can be, (child's name) can eat a slice and leave none for me. Yum, Yum, that was fun! We love a pizza party! Pizza Parachute Use a parachute as a big pizza (or simply a brown sheet or blanket). Throw on meat balls (small balls), pepperoni (red paper plates) and cheese (white or yellow bean bags). Try to flip the pizza without throwing the toppings off! snack idea: mini pizzas Use small portions of pizza dough, English muffins or refrigerated biscuits for the crust. Flatten lightly. Add pizza sauce, cheese and toppings! Bake according to biscuit directions.

We made this pizza using some beige paper, paint and fresh vegetables. The idea of vegetable stamps has been taken from the "Nature Printing" book. Kids have lots of fun with them, and they are much easier to make than rubber stamps. Cut out a paper circle for the pizza base. Slice a tomato in half, paint the cut (we used gouache) and pring. Do the same with a bell pepper. ... and a mushroom. Experiment with other vegetables and tell me what you got :)
