A farm setting on the gaming table isn't complete without a pig pen, hence my DIY pen. Dimensions 15 cm x 12 cm. I decided that the a pen needed to suit both the French Indian War period and World War Two. The pigs are from Pegusus 1/48 Farm Animals. I undercoated them with Black primer. Used wet blending technique to paint the pigs. VMC Green Ochre 914 VMC Black Grey 862 VMC Iraqui Sand 819 Game colour "Carne Marron Tan" Washed with a Nuln Oil Very light highlight with the respective colours. The low stone walls are made from MDF as is the base and water trough. The gate and shelter are made from bamboo skewers. A coat of PVA was brushed onto the floor of the pen and covered with tiny stones. The fiber material is rubberised horse hair secured in place with PVA glue. Painting the model. The complete model was coated with a Black undercoat. See low stone walls link for colours used. The inner ground was dry brushed with VMC Flat Earth and then a light highlight of VMC Iraqui Sand was applied to selected areas. A bit of VMC flat Earth was applied to the inner area of the walls to simulate mud. The opaque white area on the ground is trying to simulate small puddles of water. This was achieved by using Vallejo Gloss Varnish 70.510 mixed in with a tiny amount of off white and dabbed onto the desired area . The Rubberised Horse hair was dry brushed with VMC Dark Sand and highlighted with VMC Iraqui Sand. The wooden items: Base coat of VMC Chocolate Brown Washed with Nuln Oil Dry brushed with VMC Beige Brown Final light dry brush with VMC Middlestone Flock applied and ready for your Pigs. Pig Pen with 28mm Colonial settler for French Indian war period Pig Pen with 28 mm Late War British Infantry for WW 2.

Well, I am not keeping up to date with my blog as well as I would like. I seem to stay so busy, and then when I get home, I am so exhausted! Anyway, we have been learning about Collective Nouns this week and I made an Anchor Chart for my kiddos to use throughout the next couple of weeks as we continue our lessons. Check it out! Remember I am no artist, but my kiddos think I am! They kept telling me what great pictures I drew. Gotta love 'em! Collective Noun Anchor Chart Sorry it is not very bright, my camera was getting low on batteries. I also have a couple of more pics to show. One is a bookshelf in my reading corner, I plan on buying some of those wooden or paper mache' letters that spell "Read" and cover them with pretty scrapbook paper. Then I am going to hot glue them onto the big pig hanging over the shelf. What do you think? Bookshelf in reading corner I have one more picture to share. This is where I keep my Write the Room Station. My students get a clipboard from the basket and a Write the Room paper and find designated words on the page from all around the room. This is one of their favorite stations. Write the Room Station Well, I hope to be able to blog more often as soon as I get in the "groove" of things in my classroom. I have linked up with Kelly over at Teaching Fourths Fun Friday #2 Linky! Come on over and join in! You can find some great classroom ideas!
The term “miniature pig” is used to describe a variety of smaller pig breeds as well as crossbreeds. There are at least 14 recognized breeds of miniature pigs, including the Vietnamese potbellied pig, the Juliana pig, the KuneKune, and others. I haven't been on here in a few days. We have been super busy at school and I am also getting my ESOL Endorsement online so I have had lots of work to do. We have been studying penguins this week and using ideas from other teacher blogs we did a cutesy chart. We also went out into the hall and pretended to be Emperor Penguin daddies and try to waddle with an egg on the top of our feet. My kiddos had such fun with this. One of my students had a plan, he was going to curl up his toes to see if the egg would stay and believe it or not, he waddled farther than any of us, but he still didn't get far. Here is one of the anchor charts that I have in my classroom. I Love Anchor Charts!! My students refer to them often when working. We also had the 100th day of school this past Thursday!! I can't believe we have been at school 100 days!! We did a fun drawing of what we look like now and what we would look like in 100 years. Obviously some of my students didn't think they would be doing very well in 100 years!! Too Funny!! I have created a new unit for TeachersPayTeachers. It is Free!! A mini unit about bugs. It contains an ABC order page, an adding and subtraction page and a label the fly page. ( I did the fly page because my reading story this week is about a fly.) Just click on the pic!
