A vertical/square turquoise, pink, black, and yellow abstract mixed media painting by Robert Baribeau. Baribeau's work often abstracts from the natural landscape, with beautifully layered colors and bold, deliberate strokes reminiscent of the Abstract Expressionists. This work combines Baribeau's painterly skill with the unique texture of paper, creating striking washes of pigment that dance along ripples in the surface. The work is in very good condition, and comes mounted and framed. It is hand-signed by the artist. Robert Baribeau (b. 1949) Untitled, 1996 Oil, acrylic, and collage on paper 45 x 40 in. 49 x 44 in. framed Signed and dated to lower right 'RB 96'. Robart Baribeau was born in 1949 in Aberdeen, Washington. He graduated with a bachelor's from Portland State University in 1978, and earned his MFA from the Pratt Institute in 1979. Baribeau, trained as a landscape architect, closely examines scenes from the natural world and abstracts from them. While his work often draws from Abstract Expressionism in style, his compositions do not obscure the natural influences from which they arise. He also has a keen sense for the materials used in his work, and by jumping between oils, acrylics, collage, and other media, explores the many different preceding periods of European and American art history. Baribeau is the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, a Pratt Institute Art Department Grant/Fellowship, and a Florence Saltzman-Heidel Foundation Grant. He currently lives and works in Stanfordville, New York.
