The map shows a bird’s eye view of Derry, NH as it looked at the end of the 19th century. This original pictorial map is gorgeous with bright and vibrant colors, displaying the campus at Cambridge, Massachusetts from a birds eye view, and illustrating the various coat of arms from the noted campus houses. Map appears well-kept, with slight creasing throughout, toning along edges, and small rips and crinkling mainly along edges (see pictures). A treasure to be framed for the alum or map collector.

The perspective, colors and background details are very different from the European Renaissance painting tradition. The Ottoman painters did not mainly aim to depict the human beings realistically - through a stylized and abstract painting style they hinted at an infinite and transcendent reality. The above scenes are painted by the most famous miniature paintes, namely Suleyman the Magnificent, Selim II, Nakkas Osman and Matrakci Nasuh. More beautiful examples can be found here. ABOUT BIRD’S EYE MAPS The panoramic map, known also as a bird's eye view, was a popular cartographic form used to depict cities and towns during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Although not generally drawn to scale, they show street patterns, individual buildings, and major landscape features in perspective. Preparation and sale of these nineteenth century maps were motivated by civic pride and the desire of the city fathers to encourage commercial growth. Many views were prepared for and endorsed by chambers of commerce and other civic organizations and were used as advertisements of a city's commercial and residential potential. Real estate agents and chambers of commerce used the maps to promote sales to prospective buyers of homes and business properties. ABOUT MY MAPS This print is a reproduction of a period map. This is a very detailed map of Paris from the 16th Century. It was hand colored and is quite beautiful. The original measured roughly 15" x 20" but you could probably print it larger because the file size is huge, over 20 MB. Being that the file size is over 20MB and Etsy does not allow downloads over 20 MB, you will download a PDF file that includes a link to my download site where you will be able to download it. The map from your purchased download is a much higher resolution than the quality of the picture you see here on Etsy. I had to reduce the image to get it to fit in the upload, but your download is a much crisper and more detailed map.
