A deleted scene from the third season episode Elaan of Troyius takes place in the newly built rec room set (later used in And the Children Shall Lead). Spock plays the Vulcan harp and indicates he came in second place in a music contest, with his father taking first place. To him the music is relaxing, to Uhura it is stimulating. This scene was entirely cut from the episode and had a minor comedy component as in the following scene that was included, in a small removed line Elaan insults the music Spock is playing after hearing it over her intercom (this is the scene in which Kirk introduces the concept that he will be her new teacher replacing the stabbed Petri). Scanned and restored from the original 35mm single frame clip. See another shot from this scene here: www.flickr.com/photos/retroweb/3830157574/in/set-72157622... Kirk took command of the Enterprise through the assassination of Captain Christopher Pike. Kirk then ended the Gorlan uprising by taking the ship to the rebel homeworld and destroying the planet.
