This small quilt (approximately 26 inches square) is made out of quilter's cotton and cotton (or cotton/bamboo blend) batting. It could be used as a baby quilt, or maybe for a child's doll. It is machine washable, so it's ready for just about anything. The brightly colored diamonds really stand out against the white background. It is heavily quilted with an overall meandering pattern. This quilt can be washed on the gentle cycle and dried on low heat.
It seems that the key to flying any kite is wind! We had big plans this weekend to reconnect with our old family traditions of Easter kite...
Everything in my shop is handmade, by me! I put a lot of love into each and every item that I make. This precious little quilt is just too cute! It would make the perfect addition to any nursery or the perfect gift for someone expecting. I love the simple yet BOLD pattern of this quilt. The triangle style quilting pattern adds an extra special little touch. The top of this quilt is all one piece. It is 100% cotton quilting fabric but it can not be customized. The quilt fabrics and patterns will be just as shown in the pictures. I can not add or take away any prints. It is sewn in a way to create that individually piece together square by square look. If you are not wanting a whole cloth quilt and want the individual squares please check other shop listings: www.MyLittleHomemadeShop.Etsy.com The center of the quilt has a thin layer of 100% cotton quilting batting. The batting adds a little weight and warmth, but is still light weight. Perfect for your little one! The bottom of the quilt will have a minky dimple dot. There will be a few different color options. The minky on the bottom makes this little quilt extra SOFT and cozy, perfect for a new baby! If you don’t want minky on the Botton, no worries, we can use one single solid print of your choice found in the quilt top. These quilts are made with both baby and parents in mind. They are very durable and meant to be well loved by your little one. Easy to care for: Machine washable on delicate and dry on the lowest heat setting Available in two different sizes: Baby Quilt ** Measures roughly 33” X 44” Toddler bed quilt ** Measures roughly 43 X 55 Matching items may be available in our shop see: www.MyLittleHomemadeShop.etsy.com If you don’t see what you are looking for, additional items can be made upon request, just send me a message. You can now personalize the back of your quilt with the minky (textured fabric). Personalized option is only available with the minky backing. The cotton is not thick enough to support the heaving stitching required for embroidery. Thank you so much for stopping by!

This little landscape art quilt has two buddies sitting atop a mountain enjoying a moment of solitude. This is an easy fusible applique method that is perfect for anyone with some basic quilting knowledge. You will need to free motion quilt but it's basically quilting around the motifs, so a good place to practice and improve your skills. . I have include patterns for a collie / shepard, a smaller puppy with big ears such as a lab pup, retriever or spaniel, a long eared basset hound, a mountain dog or larger lab and also a generic more cartoonish looking cat and dog. (see photos) . the finished quilt is 19" by 19" . Please feel free to convo me with any questions along the way, I'm happy to help ;-)
This is a 36x36 smaller quilt thst is a wall or table quilt.
I designed this quilt and named it after my granddaughter Sofia. It is made primarily with strip sets and goes together quickly. Choose two contrasting fabrics to make your blocks pop. #SewBigQuilting

Create your own VISTA. So much opportunity for colorplay and imagination! It looks complicated, but it's simply based upon a 4 x 4 block (also called a 16 patch block) that's cleverly arranged. This illustrated pattern has instruction for 2 sizes of quilts. Suitable for a confidant beginner/intermediate level of quilting experience. Basic knowledge of foundation paper piecing is required for a small amount of the quilt. Includes printouts for paper templates, foundations, and coloring pages. No curved rulers required; 4-1/2 x 4 1/2 inch (or larger) ruler, rotary cutter, and mat is required, along with basic sewing supplies.
As promised, a tutorial for my Giant Vintage Star Quilt. This quilt takes advantage of a single quilt block, super sized! It takes a traditional block, the Starflower block, and makes for a very modern quilt. Perfect for beginner and advanced quilters alike. For more on my process and the inspiration behind this quilt, see this post: Giant Vintage Star Quilt. If you'd rather have this tutorial in downloadable/printed form, check out the Giant Vintage Star Quilt Pattern. It features a throw quilt (same size as this tutorial!), baby quilt, and quilted pillow. The yardage for all the different color combinations is broken down to make it easy to customize your quilt! Find the pattern in my online shop here: Giant Vintage Star Quilt Pattern. Fabric Shops: If you'd like to teach classes on this design, I ask that you order paper copies of my pattern for each student. You can order patterns wholesale through this form. Please refrain from teaching directly from this tutorial, thanks! I made my quilt entirely from vintage sheets, but you can use any fabric you'd like to make your quilt! There are lots of shops that sell vintage sheet fat quarters* on Etsy, if you want to make one just like mine! If you'd like to learn more about working with vintage sheets, check out my post: How to Identify, Shop for and Sew with Vintage Sheets First, you need to decide what kind of color layout you'd like! You may choose to use as few as two colors or as many as eight. You could also use as few as two fabrics or as many as sixteen! I've drawn out a few options here as examples: This is the layout I used, 8 different colors using 16 different fabrics. A little less busy, 4 different colors. And finally, just 2 colors. However many colors you decide on, you also need to decide on how many fabrics to use. The traditional starflower block uses a single fabric for each 'petal'. In my quilt I used one color in each petal but two different fabrics. You may choose to do whatever you'd like for your quilt! Sewing Level: Beginner Friendly Finished Quilt Size: 68"x68" Finished Block Size: 17" square Giant Vintage Star Quilt Materials: - 8 fat quarters (minimum, use up to 16) - 2 yards of background fabric - 76"x76" piece of quilt batting - 4 1/4 yards of backing fabric (or a Twin bedsheet) - 1/2 yard of binding fabric Giant Vintage Star Quilt Cutting: From each print fat quarter: - Cut (1) 18" square From background fabric: - Cut (4) 18" squares and (4) 17.5" squares Giant Vintage Star Quilt Instructions: Use a 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise noted. 1. Before cutting, you'll want to decide how much variety you want and what kind of color scheme you'd like. That will determine how much fabric you need and how you'll construct your quilt. If you don't mind prints repeating in your quilt, you can use 8 fat quarters. If you don't want any repeats and want more variety like mine, you will need 16 fat quarters, but you'll only be using half of each fat quarter, or you can make two matching quilts. TIP: It can be helpful when working with large pieces to use spray starch or a starch alternative like Flatter by Soak* to help keep those long seams from getting stretched out. Spray before cutting. 2. Think about how you want to lay out your colors. This will determine which prints you pair up together. I've included this blank quilt diagram that you can print and color in your layout if you'd like! 3a. If you're using 4 or 2 colors AND 8 fat quarters, you'll be constructing your blocks using the traditional half-square triangle (HST) method. You need a total of 8 print + background HSTs and 4 print + print HSTs. So, create 2 pairs of print + print squares, and 4 pairs of print + background squares. You can use my Half-Square Triangle Tutorial if you need help with that! 3b. If you're using 8 colors AND/OR 16 fat quarters, you'll be putting together your half-square triangles a different way. You need to cut your print squares and 18" background squares in half across the diagonal.* You'll end up with a total of 32 print triangles and 8 background triangles. Take half of your print triangles and set them aside for another project, you won't be needing them to create this quilt top. Now, pair up 8 print triangles with your 8 background triangles. Take the remaining 8 print triangles and pair them up with each other. Sew each pair of triangles together to create 12 half-square triangles. To make that diagonal cut, I temporarily taped a 24" ruler and a 6" ruler end to end with masking tape! 4. Once your half-square triangles are finished and pressed, they may need trimming down to 17.5" 5. Lay out your blocks, arranging your half-square triangle blocks like the diagram above to create the starflower petal shapes. Use the 17.5" background squares in the corners. Sew blocks together in each row. Press seams in one direction, alternating direction every other row. Sew rows together. Press seams open. 6. Making Backing: Cut backing yardage in half. Press. Trim off the selvedge and sew your pieces together lengthwise. Press seam open. 7. Basting: Using masking or painter’s tape, tape the backing to a clean, hard surface, right side down. Spread out your batting on top of the backing. Smooth out any wrinkles. Carefully spread out your quilt top on top of the batting, right side up. Pin your top, I like to use curved safety pins, spacing the pins a few inches apart. Make sure that your pins are going through all three layers. 8. Quilting: Quilt as desired, by machine or by hand. Trim away excess batting and backing fabric. 9. Binding: Cut yardage listed for binding into 2.5” strips. Trim off selvedges and sew your strips together to form one long strip, press seams open. Fold in half lengthwise, pressing with your iron as you fold. Attach binding using your preferred method. For a detailed tutorial on attaching your binding to both sides by machine: Machine Quilt Binding Tutorial. I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial! I'm so happy you stopped by my blog for the Patchwork Patterns 318 Blog Hop! Patchwork Patterns 318 is a Japanese sewing book by Kumiko Fujita. It has recently been published by World Book Media for the first time in English! The book is written for hand sewing but can be easily adapted to sewing on your machine using foundation paper piecing or freezer paper piecing. I decided to make a few projects from the "Girls Night Out" section of the book. The patterns are adorable and the perfect designs for embellishing some very practical items. I couldn't resist making a make-up bag - perfect for the lipstick and nail polish block! The fabrics used for the lipstick and nail polish are Cotton + Steel Mustang Collection. The large floral is a cotton canvas designed is Ruby Star Polka dot in Pink by Melody Miller. The background dot is Essential dots in Pink from Moda. The lipstick and nail polish block were enlarged to 4". The patterns in the book are approximately 2 3/8" and are not reversed for paper piecing, so I scanned the image and used Adobe Illustrator to enlarge and reverse the image. I added a seam to make the piecing a bit easier and numbered each section. If you don't have Illustrator you can use Photoshop Elements as well. Kerry has a great tutorial for sizing the blocks which you can find here. The next project is a shoe/project bag. (Shhh.... don't tell anyone but I had an almost identical pair of pink kitten heels I wore in the early 80's : ) The shoe is made with Cotton + Steel Mustang, the bottom and top border are Ruby Star Polka dot in Pink by Melody Miller. The background fabric is Essex Yarn Dyed Linen from Robert Kaufmann. I enlarged the pattern to 8" - large enough to adorn a roomy bag - perfect for a shoe bag or project bag. I am currently using this one for a knitting project. It is a roomy 13" x 16" - so it will fit a pair of long knitting needles or your favorite pink high heels : ) Now for the fun part!!! I will be giving away one copy of Patchwork Patterns 318 compliments of World Book Media and a FQ set of Mustang from Cotton + Steel from Fat Quarter Shop! Don't forget to take a peek at the New Cotton + Steel line at Fat Quarter Shop. Please leave a comment below sharing whether or not you have tried foundation paper piecing. If you have tried, what did you make? Give away is open to USA and International commenters. Comments will be open until Friday 9:00 p.m Pacific Standard Time. And.... be sure to check out the other projects on the blog hop - they are wonderful! This is the last of my very favorite red batiks. Originally there were 4 different patterns in this shade of red batik. I used them to make a quilt for my goddaughter over 20 years ago. This is the last bit of the fabric remaining and I’m sad to see it go. It is from a Crossknot pattern produced by Aria Lane. The beige lines are made from a washable silk. It is a small wall quilt but with a big punch—especially if you love red, as I do.
