Inspired by silver folk art jewelry in Peru, these animals in metal tooling are such an engaging project! Each student selects one of 12 animals from Peru to draw and then etch onto aluminum tooling foil. Included in the lesson are step-by-step directions for drawing an alpaca, Amazon River dolphin, anaconda snake, armadillo, giant river otter, iguana, jaguar, llama, mountain toucan, spectacled bear, spider monkey, and viscacha. This results in a varied set of artworks and gives the kids lots of choices, which they appreciate. Students learn to create a relief of their animal as well as a sun or moon, and a border on the tooling foil, We add color with India ink and mat the artworks on construction paper. Included is a detailed photo tutorial for teaching each step of the process. This project is one in our “Folk Art in the Americas” theme, created to tie in with the Western Hemispheres social studies curriculum. Time Required: 90 minutes-2 hours. The gigantic murals of the Peruvian painter El Decertor run along sidewalks in Lima, on apartment buildings in Baltimore, and on streets and buildings in Venezuela, Morocco, and Mexico, just to name a few. Across each city, the work features consistent motifs of complex, colorful backgrounds made from fractured polygon patterns, with a prominent figure at the mural’s focus. These figures are mostly mystical — they are clearly human, painted with an empathetic realism, but posed with some symbolic gesture or object: metaphors for immigration, agriculture, housing, meditation, colonialism. Occasionally the murals drift into the surrealistic, framing an alternate reality for passersby throughout the city to gaze into, and perhaps recognize some of their own inside.
Welcome to MidModMomStore https://midmodmomstore.etsy.com What a beauty! As seen at the Museum of International Folk Art (as part of the Girard collection) a large Peruvian terra cotta roof ornament from the town of Quinua, Ayacucho. These churches are placed as roof ornaments, on the ridge line, as a protection against evil spirits. Every house in Quinua has at least one, including the church, which has many. You also see them frequently on the rooftops of Ayacucho. Some are so large they can be displayed indoors as a feature. This particular example came from the estate sale of a couple of world travelers and international craft collectors. This example is in beautiful condition overall wear to the finish as expected of a piece this old. No chips or breaks. Measures 4 1/4" wide, 2 1/4" deep, 6 3/4" high. No signatures or marks. *** I do my best to accurately represent the color of my images, but due to inconsistencies in monitor adjustments there might be a slight shift in hue between photos on your computer and the actual item. Contact me if you have any questions. Thank you.
The term retablo traditionally applies to a broad variety of religious images which are painted and sculpted over much of Latin America.

I finally know what I want for Christmas (or any other holiday that people want to use as an excuse to give me presents): A 3Doodler. And it’s not just...
These Peruvian textiles are unique and handmade, their manufacture dates back to the time of the Incas, who wove these blankets to protect themselves from the intense cold of the Peruvian highlands in the winter. You can use them as blankets, rugs, wallhanging or however you want. This wonderful art comes mainly from Cusco and Puno, but also from other nearby towns, with its ancestral technique characteristic they are handmade in two parts with sheep and alpaca wool, it begins to be spun with the pushka or spindle to finally be joined in looms. Natural dyes extracted from vegetables and plants are used to give it color, after dyeing and drying the wool thread, the threads are crossed on the loom so that the blanket that is manufactured is reversible, the selection of colors depends on the mood of the women who weave it. Some blankets have small stains or blemishes due to the candle wax that artisans work with weaving at night, but that makes it that much more unique and valuable. Buying products in our store contributes to the artisans who make this wonderful art to preserve their lifestyle through our culture. We are happy that you can take a piece of Peru into your home and that our culture is part of your decoration. Indications: Colors may vary a bit depending on the screen you are viewing from. For cleaning, use a carpet cleaning foam, a soft brush and allow to air dry. Contact us if you have any questions via etsy or peruviantreasuresofficial [!at] gmail.com Thank you very much.

Details After Christ's death on the cross, the image itself came to be venerated as one of the most important Christian symbols. Alejandro Chávez shows an empty cross, graced with a portrait of Jesus. Ladders reach to beams where ofrendas (offerings) have been placed. Figures in traditional Andean dress kneel below the cross, their eyes lifted in devout prayer. Known as a retablo, this traditional diorama is housed in a colorful chest crafted of wood and painted. Chávez carefully models each figure from ceramic plaster and paints them by hand; the retablo receives an antique finish. 0.68 kgs 1.5 lbs 23.5 cm H x 14 cm W x 8.5 cm D 9.25" H x 5.5" W x 3.3" D Metric US/Imperial MDF, ceramic Signed by the artist Clean with a soft, dry cloth Hand-crafted item -- color, size and/or motif may vary slightly Made in Peru Certified and shipped by our office in Peru Product ID: 78688

This project was inspired by a friend's recent amazing trip to Macchu Picchu. Truly a bucket list moment! Since the chances of me making the trek there anytime soon are nonexistent, the consolation prize was to do an art lesson based on the Peruvian llamas. There are over 7 million llamas in South America. They are highly intelligent animals that are easily trained. They are raised for their wool, to carry loads and pull carts. And since they are in the camel family, they can survive weeks without water. Jackie said this photo-bombing llama's name was Lucy and a group of 30 of them live there year round to keep the grass down. Just -WOW!
