Why I chose this couple? I love the television show Psych. I’ve watched every episode of all eight seasons multiple times. And with Psych: The Movie premiering this past December where Shawn and Juliet finally tie the knot, I thought the timing was perfect for a Psych wedding invitation! A PscyhOs dream (as we fans affectionately call ourselves).

It’s no surprise that our students love to watch T.V. so why not combine something they love with something we love? Reading Comprehension Strategies! These sheets can be assigned as homework if all of your students have access to a television or they can be given out just for extra credit! One way that I used this in my class was when we watched The Magic School Bus episodes to follow up our science units. The students loved them and really learned a lot. It made them active listeners and they were excited to share with their peers what they learned from the episode or to talk about a show they watched at home. Other students that were familiar with the same show shared their insight and opinions as well. These sheets had our class discussing topics that were relevant and meaningful to the students, but on an academic level that met the Common Core standards. It really helped my students to see that comprehension extended past text and could be worked on while they were listening or watching things as well! :) T.V. Comprehension Sheets include: -Main Idea -Cause and Effect -Vocabulary -Sequence of Events -Fact and Opinion -Compare and Contrast -Story Maps -Making Inferences -Character Traits CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.2.2 Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.3 Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
