Happy Monday! Can you believe it's the last full week of March already?!?! I sure can't ~ this year is just flying by. Well the last week of the month is always fun for me because two very fun things occur....the last Tuesday of the month is Altered Pages "Trending Tuesday" - that's where the AP DT is asked to created based upon a current trend, product or project. This month's Trending Tuesday cue combines two things I love...collage & stencils! I can't wait for you to see what I've created :) The last Wednesday of the month is the Club Scrap Blog Hop! Another very fun event because if you've ever had a chance to play with Club Scrap's paper or stamps you'll understand how cool it is. Well this month's kit was based around the theme - Trees! Today you will get an idea of the project I made because I'm going to share some assembly instructions with you on how to make it....the Never Ending Card!! This card is a real wonder once assembled. It offers so many decorating options is amazing. I have to warn you it is a bit confusing the first couple times and if it's not assembled exactly as shown it won't work so you have to follow the instructions to the T or you will end up very frustrated. Trust me, it took me a couple times to get it just so. Now I tried to make this card several different sizes and finally ended up on the 6x6" finished card. I'll explain why later on. So, let's begin! The Never Ending Card Finished size: 6x6 To begin you will need to cut 4 pieces of cardstock measuring 3" x 6". These could be all one color, two colors as I am using for this example or all 4 different colors. It's totally up to you. Note: This is paper from the Club Scrap Trees kit... Next, score each strip at 1.5" and 4.5" as shown. Orientate your cardstock pieces as shown in the photo - one set horizontally, the other vertically. Number the 4 outer corners of each set of cardstock. You will notice that 1 & 3 are on the outside corners and 2 & 4 are on the inside corners of both sets. Apply 1" of adhesive to each of the outer corners (where the numbers are) on one set of your cardstock pieces. Slide the two pieces of light green cardstock together so you have a 6x6 block of cardstock. To assemble the card you need to match up the numbers - 1 and 3 of the dark green cardstock gets glued to the corresponding 1 & 3 on the light green cardstock; 2 & 4 dark green to the 2 & 4 on the light green cardstock. Now you need to open up the card and crease the score lines. Gently open up the dark green flaps - and fold them under - you will see that you are bending the light green cardstock on it's score lines. Use a bone folder to help sharpen those score lines. Now take the two flaps of light green cardstock and gently fold them towards the back and the dark green cardstock will be folded open on their score lines. Crease these score lines as well. At this point your basic never ending card base is assembled! It's time to decorate...This card offers you 24 different areas to embellish spread over 4 different folded lay-outs!! That's a whole lot of real estate to fill up. Here is why I ended up making the 6x6" card. If you go with a smaller card the individual areas are so small and have funky measurements that it just makes it more of a headache than it's worth. The 6x6 card gives you large enough spaces to use normal stamps and embellishments without having to figure out how to stuff it all in and the measuring is so easy....no confusing fractions down to the tenth of an inch to deal with. The quantity and sizes the the areas are as follows: 8 - 1.5" x 1.5" squares 8 - 1.5" x 3" rectangles 8 - 3" x 3" squares. The next few photos are just to help illustrate each of the different elements available for each of the 4 different folds/lay-outs of the card. You can orient the card either way but I'm starting with the dark green cardstock as the front with vertical flaps. The card front has (4) 1.5" x 3" sections and (2) 3" x 3" sections. Open the green flaps to open the card up to the second lay-out - notice the two narrow rectangles between 7 & 11 and 8 & 12 aren't numbered. This is because they are actually part of the next flip. They do show through on this fold so you may want to keep that in mind when you're laying out the card. This lay-out has (4) 1.5" x 1.5" squares (in the corners) and (2) 3" x 3" squares in the center. Open up the light green squares of the last lay out to reveal (4) 1.5" x 1.5" squares and (2) 3" x 3" squares. Remember the outer 1.5" of each of the 3x3" squares will show in the previous lay-out. The dark green squares from the previous lay-out open up to reveal the very back of the card which has (4) 1.5" x 3" rectangles and (2) 3" x 3" squares. NOTE: When you open up these light green flaps you will be taken back to the beginning. So there you go...assembly instructions and a detailed map of all 4 different lay-outs. You'll have to wait until Wednesday to see how I decorated my card but I assure you it's worth the wait. This card is a real stunner once finished ~ people will be in awe once they start flipping and flipping and flipping... well, you get the picture.

Hello Friends - Back with another new stamp I carved! I wanted to make a stamp that looked cool on it's own but also worked in groupings... I'm pretty happy with hot it turned out! I used Kaleidacolor - Autumn Leaves for this example :) I forgot to rock the stamp on a couple of these images but you get the general idea.

I cannot resist any longer...it's time to start making Christmas projects. I wanted to start by playing with my 5x7 Gelli Plate and Deco Arts Dazzling Metallics Acrylic Paint. This paint has a beautiful luster and shimmer that translates very well onto paper (or other surfaces). Start off by gathering all your supplies...in addition to the Deco Arts Metallics & my Gelli Plate I am using some paper die-cuts, my speedball brayer, various stencils & embossing folders, white and blue acrylics. The 5x7 Gelli Plate is a perfect size for smaller projects like cards and tags. I think it goes quicker too because there's less space to fill up at least it feels like it. A bit of paint... roll it out and you're ready to start playing. I placed one of the die cuts in the center then pounced the surface with the bumpy side of an embossing folder. NOTE: if you do use an embossing folder be sure to clean the paint off. I don't worry about cleaning stencils off. And print.... This design was also made using an embossing folder... here I have added multiple die-cuts. Made a print pulling off some paint... peeled them off and added more paint... and here are those 2 prints side by side...positive & negative. I was at it for less than an hour and made 19 prints, 12 tags and numerous painted die-cuts! I love playing with the Gelli Plate, it really makes you feel like you've accomplished something and in such a short amount of time. In the coming days I will share some projects made using these fun prints!

Gelli Arts Additional Gelli Arts Inspiration on their BLOG and FACEBOOK PAGE Tape technique inspiration found HERE My final tape print created "here" is receiving a quick dusting of Perfect Gold Perfect Pearls before being transformed into a card design. Who would have thought that packaging tape could hold so many possibilities?! Stamps (Warm Wishes) and dies (Fresh Breeze) from Penny Black combined with circles created from straws and dots added with a stylus produced highly unique and elaborate patterns on a Gelli Plate. The tape was mounted to a piece of white cardstock for stability and then showcased under a vertical window. A die cut ticket (Admit One) was used for a decorative tag. After the sides were edged in Delicata Golden Glitz, the sentiment (Sentimental) was stamped in Smokey Grey VersaFine. I picked a softer hue for stamping the sentiment so it would be lighter in color than the button and create more contrast. Tip/Hint: Ice fishing line is a great alternative for black heavyweight thread. I liked the notches on the ticket die cut so much that I mimicked them on the top and bottom right-hand corners of the elevated window mat. Jill's going to get "sticky" too. It's hand carved with special tools in rubber then mounted on wood (maritime pine from Landes, custom cut, sanded and varnished). It comes in a transparent reusable and recyclable zipper bag. For this card, I created the faux stained glass look using glossy accents onto an ink blended background. After creating my faux stained glass, I added a black layer on top and then repositioned my original die cut panel over my ink blended panel, using an embossing stylus to go around the layered die cuts to make sure it sat snugly around my flowers. Before I begin with the masks, I wanted to share a card that I made that should have been on yesterdays examples but I didn't get to finish it in time. Anyway, here is an example of using punchenella (sp?) (sequins waste product). Basically you just lay the sequin material over your cardstock and pounce the ink on in straight up and down motions. This action will eliminate stray ink from finding it's way under the material where you don't want it. Don't worry if your piece of sequins material isn't large enough. Once you finish one area, simply slide it in desired direction, line up the existing ink dots with the holes in the edge of the material and continue inking. This entire card was made in that fashion. The large sentiment stamps is Wildflower Stamps and the baby is from TAC. All inks are Ranger (Distress & Archival). On to the masks! I used Heidi Swapp masks for both of the examples. I'm sure you've all seen the larger variety of masks I used on the card but she now offers smaller masks which are the perfect size for ATC's!! When using these masks for the first time I find it helps to peel the mask off the paper it comes on and stick it to your shirt or jeans to eliminate some of the sticky. Trust me, these masks are way too sticky for their own good! I have had the masks peel bits & pieces of the paper right off of my projects before. Also, you want to make sure that your base coat of ink/paint/etc. is dry BEFORE you apply the mask to your project. If it's not it will stick fast making a whole other type of mess you don't want to deal with...yes, again, the voice of experience speaking here ;) Something else to keep in mind...these masks are plastic and will shrivel if heat is applied to them. (don't ask - LOL!!!) Also, I want to apologize ~ some of the photos today are a bit blurry...it's somewhat difficult to take pics when you're finger is in a straight jacket - LOL!! Supplies: Stipple Brush(es) Heidi Swapp Mask Distress Inks - Ranger Archival Ink - Ranger Cardstock Instructions: 1. Begin by applying a light base coat of desired color of ink. Let dry. 2. Apply mask to your project in desired area. Stipple top coat of ink over the mask. You will want to be sure you get the ink into all of the cracks & crevices of the mask. 3. Gently remove mask and your background paper is ready to be used! and here is the finished ATC... Another example - 1. Apply the basecoat of ink. For this example I used several colors of the Nick Bantock ink for the background base coat. 2. Apply the top coat of ink over the mask & rest of the card... 3. Gently remove the masks and it's ready to use! and you have another fun card! Next week I've got a few more fun not so common uses for the stipple brush :) I don't want to bore you so I'll try to finish it up quickly! Tomorrow I'll have a new 4 for 1 and preview of the next Ink Stained Sketch to share. Till then have a super day!! Hope you're able to get your fingers inky even if it's just to fondle your ink pads ;) LOL!!!

Posted in protective packaging. Making art through the medium of lino is one where surprises are a daily occurrence. Every time an image is hand pressed the anticipation of the reveal when pulling back the paper can make for some wonderful, unique images. The weight of the press, amount of ink and paper used means every single print is different, such a refreshing change in this digital age. The evolution of each print puts the owner in direct contact with the artist.
Yesterday I saw this card on the Hero Arts blog and I just had to give it a try... only problem is, I don't have the nifty Brushed Frame stamp that was used to create the card! Bummer!! So I decided to treat this as a personal challenge to myself to come up with something that would work just as well. The first thing I did was to draw a 4"x6" on a sheet of white cardstock. I then cut that rectangle from the cardstock so I have a frame and a center piece. I tore all four edges of the rectangle that I cut from the cardstock. You can test fit it to see what your inky frame will look like.... I decided to take a bit more paper off here and there for a nicer look. Now, use painters tape; tissue tape or washi tape to secure your frame to your piece of cardstock that you want to ink. I used a minty green cardstock to make it easier to see in the photos. This is going to change my ink colors a bit - if you used white cardstock the inks would be more vibrant. You also need to use a bit of removable adhesive to secure the torn rectangle inside the frame on the colored cardstock. It's time to add the ink. I am using Distress Stain which I have applied directly to my ink blending tool foam. Next dab the inks around the frame in any fashion you would like. I'm just dabbing the colors here and there in no particular pattern. Instead of the IBT you could also use a stipple brush, make-up foam or cotton ball in a pinch. When you've added inks all around the frame you're ready to remove the center piece and frame piece..... And here's how it turned out! Pretty good for a first try. I'm thinkin' to get the blended/splotchy look of the original that a Stipple Brush might be a better choice to apply the inks. You could control the saturation and blend the inks a bit better. !! Just a note !! You could use this frame and center several times as long as you let the inks dry before you go inkin' up the next frame. You can now cut out the inky frame and use it as desired! I paired my frame with a Queen Ann's Lace stamp from Inkadinkado with a sentiment stamp & cardstock from Club Scrap. Just think of all the fun combinations you could use to create loads of fun cards. You don't have to limit yourself to rectangles either.... Think - circles, squares, ovals, hearts, stars, flowers, etc. This is a great way to use some of your dies that may have been collecting dust or maybe you could use your electronic die cut machine to cut some fun shapes! The possibilities for this particular technique are really endless. So off with you now and get inky!
