This ornate, high fired, hand-thrown, hand-painted ceramic mug could be a beautiful show piece on your dining room table or functional ceramic ware mug as a gift for friends and family! This goldstone flecked stoneware clay was hand painted in the style of Norwegian telemark rosemaling and can be used as a decorative piece or as an everyday mug as it is food safe. This mug has a diameter of 3.75" and measures 4" high, not including the measurements of the handle. This particular mug features rosemaling with additional blueberries and fireweed added to the design as a tribute to my time here in Alaska. Each mug is hand-thrown and hand-painted so there will be slight variations in each piece, making them all individually unique. My hand-thrown pottery is created by me in a studio where it is fired at cone 05 to bisque ware, then taken to my home studio to be intricately rosemaled with underglazes. The under-glazed rosemaling is then covered with a clear, food-safe glaze, and wax-resist to protect from the outer glaze applied to the rest of the piece. After all glazes have been applied, it is fired again at cone 5 for the final, finished product. It is a joy to share the style of 18th century, Norwegian, telemark rosemaling on newly made, handmade pottery. Keeping traditions alive in art through processes and techniques passed down keeps this beautiful, fantasy floral, folk-art a treasure!

An Islamic glazed ceramic bowl with inscription attributed to Raqqa ware, produced during the Ayyubid dynasty (12-13th century) in the town of Raqqa in nowadays northeastern Syria. The bowl figures a generous volume with a rounded body tapered to the foot ring. The surface was glazed in a turquoise color with a blue-greenish tint and fine crackles, except the lower portion of the exterior, exposing the reddish-brown clay body. Inside the bowl, a ring of molded small fiddlehead motifs encircles a cobalt blue character written in Arabic "Isaac" on top of fine floral relief. The thinly applied glaze pooled in areas, creating variations of lovely shades. Around the exterior rim of the bowl, there is a band of relief Arabic words intertwined with painted cobalt-blue vines. The line is apparently an ayat from Quran, Surah Baqarah verse 255 "allahu la ilaha illa huwal hayyul qayyum". The translation is “Allah – there is no deity except Him". We identified the origin of the bowl with our limited knowledge in Islamic pottery. The attribution is not absolute as the bowl could be made in Egypt in a later time in the style similar to Raqqa ware.

When placed on the table, it brings a calm atmosphere. Be the centerpiece of the dining table Serve with lots of fried chicken and meat and potatoes. Insufficient drying may cause mold and odors. Product characteristics/Handling precautions ・As it is handmade, there may be individual differences in color, shape, size, thickness, etc. ・There may be pinholes, and the pattern and color may differ. ・Recommended for those who want to enjoy the warm texture that is unique to handmade products, each with a different look. ・Since it does not absorb water, it is difficult to get stains, mold, etc., and is easy to handle. ・Due to the nature of the glaze flowing down the edges, it may be slightly thinner. ・Prices may be reviewed or revised depending on the artist or pottery. Things you should know before purchasing What creates the expression of a pottery are spots, scratches, unevenness in the glaze, shading, and bending of the shape that cannot be seen in mass-produced products. The charm of handmade pottery is that it may have pinholes, intrusions, distortions, etc., and is not perfectly arranged, but each one is slightly different in color, size, and shape, and no two are exactly the same. Please enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter as these are the unique characteristics of handmade pottery. 【Individual difference】 Because each piece is hand-painted by a craftsman, the shading of each pattern may vary. [Uneven color/uneven baking] Because the glaze is carefully applied one by one by hand, the glaze may not be applied evenly, resulting in uneven color. During firing, the temperature varies depending on the location of the kiln, resulting in uneven firing. For centuries artisans have been crafting white porcelain dishes and decorating them with intricate cobalt blue patterns, from floral designs to swirling landscapes. Enter graphic designer Don Moyer who is turning the tradition on its head with his wildly successful line of Calamityware dinner plates. Moyer expertly mimics several Eastern motifs in his plates with one major addition: flying monkeys, a UFO assault, and giant gurgling sea monsters. Two plates have already been created and are available in his shop, while a third is currently doing quite well over on Kickstarter. More
