Another busy week behind us and summer is fast approaching. We had less than happy news from Bill's MRI that he'll need back surgery for sure. Now we wait to get him scheduled with the neurologist, then onward. It's hard not knowing what tomorrow will bring, but-honestly-do we ever? So, one day at a time, trusting God to handle the details. All I can do. I managed to keep up in my Scripture/prayer journal all week: And now my friend, Dawn, at Enthusiastically Dawn, is hosting another Journaling Journey through June that I've decided to participate in to help me process everything that is going on and coming up, to sort some priorities, and try to keep on track. You can click on the link for more information and to join the journey with us if you'd like. Dawn's also offering a journal giveaway--check it out here! I was also invited to join a new snail mail group, a sort of spin off of National Letter Writing Month, and since I'm totally missing my mailbox being all full of pretties, I thought I'd jump in on that as well. And as an introductory challenge, (I believe...haven't heard officially yet...) we are to create a little zine that tells a little about ourselves to send to the other members--here's the cover of mine: I love the Mad Hatter hat! I started to print them out and my printer got all gloppy--I hope it works better today! But the zine was a lot of fun to make and I have some goodies lined up to make another one later...can't wait to see what the others have done! Today is our weigh in for the Biggest Loser Challenge on Spark People and I'm down another pound and a half! Yay!! I also finally made it into my size 10 jeans--super yay! But...I only have that one pair--and one pair of capris that are a 10...I have three pairs of size 8 jeans and a few shorts in that super skinny size--so waiting to shop...I.Will.Get.There!!! Off to go rowing later this morning and a few chores to tackle--looks like a beautiful day here in New England, sunshine and breezes! Thanks for stopping by--have a great week!
This week's challenge was to use a feather on your page. I couldn't find a feather but one of my hand carved leaf stamps did the trick for this challenge. I just kept hearing that song in my head, "Shake your Tail Feather." So hence the two boogie birds shaking their tail feathers. As as you can see the book is getting very chunky !
Oh man, did I ever have fabric just itching to be used. This is Ranger ink sprays on this canvas fabric which is so fun to do. Then I used my Sailor Fountain Pen with just regular ink to write the quote. This was a fun one!! I love painting fabric!
It seems like I wait until the middle of the night to paint these birds. I really don't know why but I am enjoying painting them and creating a mixed media background. I never know exactly how they will turn out. I dropped in Hydrus color for his body. He is singing a song.
I used my Pan Pastels and I should use them more but sometimes I do these journals at home and the Pan Pastels are at the studio. I also sprayed it with SpecraFix which is non toxic and sets the pastels. I also used Puff Paint for the tree. it's so cute and puffy but you can't see it in the picture. That is really fun stuff!
I am very excited. We are leaving for the airport in about an hour or so. Of course I just had to do a journal page but I kinda ran out of time. I needed to go pack up my clothes and other necessities. I will try to take some picture along the way. I am not good at taking pictures when I am in workshops. I don't know why. For the "Art of the Carolina's" title, I painted in the versals with Twinkling H20s. I wish you could see the sheen and twinkle but unfortunately the photo doesn't pick that up. So...better go now. Bye!
This week's challenge was to stitch something on our journal page and I LOVE to stitch on paper with my sewing machine so this one was really fun. Just all sorts of fun stuff going on---stenciling, stamps calligraphy, CalligraFun and of course---stitches! Better not be color blind to see this page!
I have been in a background mood recently and I have painted some backgrounds to go into this journal. But actually I think I will have to make another cover a la Remains of the Day journal because my pages turned out way too wide for the hard cover book I prepared. I spray painted the back of these so they would be two sided for the journal. I have not bound the journal yet because I have been waiting for my toy and it came in yesterday-it's THIS! I am so excited I am about to jump out of my skin. I just love distressed edges and finally there is a machine that will do it. It's like this--on steroids!!! It is simple and sounds loud and dangerous and works SO great! I will put up some more backgrounds tomorrow. I love to do backgrounds.
Sometimes I just need to do some calligraphy. It's good for my soul. This is an Italic variation I like to do that I learned from a Connie Ferguson workshop. I wrote it out , scanned, did some Photoshop magic and placed it on this old mixed media piece that I had saved in my files. It's always fun to do and gives new life to old art pieces.
This week was a fun one because I decided that I would really go for it and put some Italic lettering as well as some pointed pen lettering. Since I taught my Italic class the past Thursday and Friday I was feeling confident to just write it on the page. Fun challenge!
I had some paper on my table that kept catching my eye but it was just a practice scrap that I had experimented on to see if I could write some calligraphy with a pointed nib over watercolor after clear gesso was applied. (yes, I am glad to say this works!) The experimental paper was colorful and interesting but didn't have much of a purpose so I decided it needed to be a flower. Bernie and I had fun! This one is 6x10.
It's always so fun to do do these challenges for the Documented Life Project. This week's challenge was to record a random act of kindness that we have done. I couldn't think of a specific one that could be documented but I do strive to be kind everyday. And sometimes that's hard! That's why it's a Fruit of the Spirit. We can't really do that alone very well can we??
Doodling in the journal sometimes brings unexpected things. Like, I didn't expect that her doodle hair would look like snails in her hair! But I am loving the copics for the face and I have finally gotten the colors that I think work for faces. This is in journal #7 or 8. I have that many floating around. I am a journal junkie, I admit it but my favorite one right now is the one I journaled in the other day which is this one.
This is GRATITUDE week. Don't forget the SUMMER SALE!!
This is the book of the PDF pages for this class by Dina Wakley. I love this class. I am practicing up to do the "Graffiti of my Life" online class by Dina Wakley. I have watched the videos all the way through and I absolutely love what she does and I am looking forward to getting started. It is a very neat journal with a coptic stitch which she explains so clearly. I am anxious to sew one up! These two pages are in my larger watercolor journal.

Ok, so this is what I think---I am tricking myself into believing that if it is on a snippet of paper there is no pressure to create it because after all---it's just a scrap! How crazy is that? That's why I think I have been able to create so many of these--no pressure--no brainer. But I am thinking now that I will put these in a mixed media book of some sort. Pressure! Not really---I guess anything goes in one of these books and hopefully I can sew some of these in. We'll see what I can come up with. I am not sure how to do it yet.
Well, I finally got back to my favorite big journal. I have been busy with the studio tour and the online class and all but I think I am longing for my journal entries. If you read any of this one you will see that our daughter, Macaulay, is pregnant again and due October 14. We are extremely excited but have been cautiously hopeful because she has had lots of trouble since baby Marc with numerous miscarriages. She and Daddy Marc are strong and know that whatever happens is in the Lord's hands. She is 15 weeks and so far so good. Oh, also I wanted to say that I have no way to respond to some comments about the Color Drop class but I have gotten these two questions which I will answer now: All of the 7 video Lessons will be sent together so it is not a week by week thing. You get them all at once. Thanks, y'all!
Well, tomorrow is the big day---the day the envelopes get here. So, as I said before if you don't see me post for awhile, then the wedding envelopes have sucked the creativity out of me. I guess I just don't know what to expect but I am ready and looking forward to the challenge. And to be able to do this for my dear friend is so worth it. I painted the Tulips last night on a piece of scrap Canson Edition paper, then scanned and printed them on Hammermill Laser paper.
La manchette Le haut de la page de Une s'appelle la manchette. C'est là qu'on trouve "l'état civil" du journal : son nom et son logo, la date du jour, le numéro, le prix... Dans certains quotidiens, on considère que legros titre barrant la Une fait...
So excited about this new class. I absolutely love drawing these girls. I am been trying to catch up on the Documented Life Project. If you haven't seen this you should check it out! It really looks like lots of fun and a great way to keep your life organized. And it's free! I have been using the pages on the Moleshine calendar for my girls. Here are a few pages where I have used my girl drawings. I haven't put my tabs in yet so when I do that I will show you. If you have signed up for my class I send you a BIG 'OLE THANK YOU!!! And if you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate to email me or message me from within the Typepad class. And don't forget to post your images your draw! I want to see your new friends! Give them a name too!
I love stars. They are happy and hopeful and fun. Speaking of stars, this is dedicated to all of the STARS of the attack on the World Trade Towers nine years ago today... the heroes who survived and the heroes who didn't.
Usually I show the two page spread of these large journals but this time the left page just wasn't up blog snuff so I just posted the right side. Sometimes I actually do create art with abandon and other times it's like pulling teeth. I wonder why that is? I have no idea. But the flowers are happy and this page came together with abandon. I lost a few teeth on the other side.
I am thinking that maybe one of these days I will paint something on a canvas again but for now the journal is the most fun. I love letters of all kinds and in my journal I am free to explore all kinds of letterforms and not worry about straight lines and consistent angles and line widths. It really doesn't matter in a journal. That's why they are FUN! These, just like the other page of the art supplies, were drawn quickly with pencil first then with a pen. I tried not to stress about too many of the details and just get the shape and shading. I think that this class might be just the thing to help me sketch without getting that pain in my head that I always get when I draw. No pain in my head! That a good thing!

All I can say is----yep!
Yep, that means never... oops, I left out a word.."know".. I do that a lot when I am writing in calligraphy. But you get the gist of it. PS That's a Pam Carriker stamp.
This is one of the most relaxing things for me to do. I love to alpha doodle in any journal that is close by. This one is a soft bound Moleskine. The paper is pretty good for markers and pens but doesn't take watercolor too well. When I alpha doodles I use lots of different styles including CalligraFun, Elvie Cursives (Lori) and Versadoodles. It's fun and I am always trying to find words to write. As you see, sometimes I get stuck on one word! I need to keep my list of words right next to me.
I am home from Greenville and enjoyed seeing my little sweeties so much. Right after my daughter's husband left fro his trip the internet went out and couldn't be fixed because the fix-it guy was out of town. They have complicated wireless in their house so a call to Apple probably wouldn't do it. So we went all week without internet. We were both experiencing internet withdrawal DTs. Thank goodness for iPhones! Anyway, I thought these flowers were very fall- like and I love to write with this pointed pen curly hand. I am, still on a Dreama high so I am looking forward to getting back to my painting. I hope everyone is having a wonderful fall weekend!
I seem to have been riveted by my TV screen for the past 24 hours or so so the doodling has been a good thing for my restless and nervous hands. The hands have calmed down now and are heading to the studio to continue the day's work. Have a nice weekend!
