About The Artwork The city grows spontaneously. Disordered. Up and down, wherever there is space. Every style is mixed together. There is no development plan for the cities in Brazil, so they become a huge architectonic collage. It is after this perception of the city that this work was created. As a play, collages are made from disconnected pieces of houses and buildings in order to create other ones. These new buildings are strange but, even though, they seem very familiar, once it is like that our perception works. The series consists of 19 collages. This is perfect for a digital photography class, and works really with senior visual art students as well! It asks students to create a PHOTO TRANSFER project around a theme of their choosing. It really pushes them to look at how to add meaning to their photos through the manipulation process of transfers. Included in this project package are: -handout that explains the requirements of the project, with a step-by-step breakdown of what's expected research sketchbook page (can also be done on regular paper) proposal/thumbnail drawings (included in the package) shoot photographs/gather materials artist statement (a basic guideline is included in the package) ***also included is a list of some typical themes in case your students need some more guidance with this These turn out FANTASTIC - always such a hit! Students really learn a lot from this. Students find this project really challenging because it brings in MIXED MEDIA to their photographs, and forces them to look at their photos in a totally new way. NOTES: -this can be done in such an inexpensive way! Modge Podge works best based on our experiments, and if they're using black and white, your school photocopiers will work! Just photocopy their images with your toner photocopiers, and they're ready to transfer.
