Wonderful mix of naturally-farmed* flower seeds sure to bring a long season of color and a variety of pollinators to your garden! Mix is sustainably grown, harvested, and packaged by our shop owner, and contains a mix of tall Zinnias (Zinnia elegans), Mexican Sunflowers (Tithonia rotundifolia), African Marigolds (Tagetes erecta), Tall Goldenrod (Solidago altissima), and White Wood Aster (Symphyotricum racemosum). All varieties thrive best in amended soil, full sun. Zinnias and African marigolds range from 3- 4' tall; Mexican sunflowers are -7' tall, Asters and Goldenrod are both in the 4-7' tall range. If you let them, they will all happily self-sow, for years of color and continued enjoyment! Our mix is great for attracting butterflies, moths, bees, wasps, other pollinators, and seed-eating birds to your garden, and for providing a long season of color and flowers for cutting. In our north Georgia garden, we have blooms from May into October or the first frost with this mix! Some seeds are difficult to hand-separate from seed hulls, there may be occasional non-seed material mixed in - this comes from being a small family shop! For that reason, we generously size our seed collection packages, and recommend you sprinkle them in the prepared bed, rather than planting each seed separately. Seeds to grow your own aquilegia canadensis (wild red columbine). This North American native plant is an herbaceous perennial that also freely reseeds, colonizing shady areas. Wild columbine is tolerant of a variety of soil types, provided that the site drains well. The foliage remains evergreen, except in the most extreme temperatures. The showy red and yellow bicolor flowers are produced in May and June and dance above the roughly 2' tall plants. Indoor Planting: It is VERY DIFFICULT to have success if starting indoors as this plant does not like to be transplanted. Also, cold stratification is necessary to try and replicate what would would happen naturally if planted directly in the fall. If attempting this method, which I do not recommend, please note that it might not be successful. If you do decide to germinate this way, make sure you treat them as a spring planting and COLD STRATIFICATION = mix the seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 60 days before planting. This plant does not like transplanting, so best to direct sow. ~ growing ~ Lunaria are easy to grow and require little to no attention once established. They can be grown in almost any soils and thrive in partial and shady areas. Once your Lunaria is established, you can largely leave it to itself. Water them only during droughts when the soil has dried out. You can also add a general purpose fertilizer once a month if growth seems slow and especially in very poor soils. ~ harvesting ~ Ornamental Honesty Plant seed pods make long-lasting additions to dried flower arrangements. After the pods have completely dried on the plant, cut the stems and hang them upside down in a dry place until the entire stem is dry.
