While I love making crafts with my preschooler, sometimes it's just nice doing process art activities with him. We don't worry about the results. We just dig in, throw everything into the pot, and see what comes up. It's kind of freeing really to not worry about the product. Awhile back we made some rainy day process art, tissue paper canvas art and Matisse murals together. Since we really enjoyed those activities, this time I pulled out our aluminum foil and we tried our hand at making some shiny foil process art. SHINY FOIL PROCESS ART This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support! Here are the materials we used: tissue paper glitter glitter pens feathers plain white glue paint brushes masking tape 1. First, I covered our work space. 2. Then, I taped a sheet of aluminum foil onto the table. (Just realized something- wouldn't this look cool as a mural? I think that would be a great collaborative project for a whole bunch of kids!) 3. Then, we tore up different colored tissue paper bits. 4. . Then, we made our glue mixture by mixing equal parts glue and water in an old container. (At first we just poured glue onto the aluminum foil, but it was way too thick and I felt like we were just wasting a whole bunch.) It was much better to use the paint brushes to "paint" the glue on. 5. We "painted" our tissue paper pieces on. As the tissue paper got really wet, the colors started mixing. That was really cool to see. 6. Once we finished with the tissue paper we used our glitter pens, glitter, and feathers to add extra special touches. They dried overnight and then we had some lovely, shiny art! During the course of an interactive museum tour a skilled educator will be able to elicit multiple responses and keep the conversation moving toward new discoveries, but no matter how competent the educator, there will always be some participants who enthusiastically contribute their ideas to the discussion, while others listen, but are reluctant to speak-up. In order to engage the entire group in the interpretive process, museum educators frequently employ gallery activities. Gallery activities enlist other sensory components and learning styles to experiencing the work of art. As in crafting open-ended discussion questions, the activity must be carefully designed to allow everyone in the group to contribute, be inquiry based, and be directly related to the work of art under consideration. This handbook provides a compendium of successful gallery activities: ?Writing ?Debating ?Drawing ?Movement ?Music ?Close looking and observation ?Touch and tactility Features include: ?Photographs of youth and adults participating in gallery activities ?Sidebars with favorite gallery activities contributed by museum educators at many museums across the country ?Planning templates

Art classes for preschoolers often focus on coloring inside the lines, but open-ended activities for preschoolers can help them learn more!
Recently I've been auditing a basic art class at our local university. It's been awhile since I've attended college (*cough cough* over a decade), and it's been even longer since I took art classes (I think middle school?) But I'm really enjoying the experience. The other students are friendly, the professor is an excellent teacher, and I enjoy the opportunity to let go and use the right-side of my brain. My art course got me thinking about trying to do more bite-sized art activities on the blog. Whaddya think? I hope to share some fun art activities that our professor had us do in the future. Today's art activity is one that I came up with after seeing so many inspiring IG feeds where artists incorporate everyday items into a drawing. Have you ever tried making magazine doodles? Magazine Doodles- Just add doodles! This is such a fun activity because you essentially provide the participant with a fun drawing prompt. Then, it's up to them to fill in the rest of the image with their doodles! I simply cut out images from a kids magazine and taped them onto pieces of paper. Then, I just let go and doodled funny ways to finish the picture. So here are some ways that I completed this open-ended activity: The neat part is that while doodling the images, different story lines started also appearing in my mind... making this a fun drawing prompt AND story telling prompt too! Hee hee, I wonder what this guys is thinking about? As you could probably guess from my tortilla art, spinning top marker art, making straw quills, and fun splat painting posts, I really enjoy making art in unique ways. I hope you have fun doodling, giggling, and story telling with your kids! Let's keep in Contact! Like kids crafts and activities? Process Art Sculpture made with recycled paper tubes
You only need to try this bubble print process art activity once to get hooked! Your kids will have a ball making these.
I feel like all I've been doing this year is writing about boxes. These are the top and bottom of a long box that came along with our giant tube (which I've still not had the courage to cut up into shorter pieces). Watching children play with boxes makes me want to write a poem about them. Or sing a song. These they seem to like to hide under, together, making it feel for a few seconds as if there are fewer children at school today. Then suddenly they burst back out into the light, bringing with them all the sound and motion that we expect at Woodland Park. I wish I had a huge warehouse for storing these kinds of thing, but instead we need to use them up, wear them out, then either get them into the recycling bin or cut them up for art projects, like this incredible glue collage on which we've been working off and on for a couple weeks. A project built on a remnant of the last box we loved until it was no more. A collage made of the parts of other things we've used up, but not found the heart to throw out. And then when we're finished gluing, once it's all dry, then maybe we'll throw it out. If history is to be a guide, it will take a long time before that happens. I might even go over it a few weeks from now and pick it like carrion for parts to re-use yet one more time. In fact, I'm pretty sure much of it will soon be stuck to the side of our new long boxes. But not before we've loved them to pieces.
