This is a really fun Sunday School Bible Review Game to learn about the Good and Bad Kings of the Bible with kindergarten, first grade, and 2nd grade kids.
I have a new Minute To Win It game. It's a New Testament version. Just click on the picture to check it out. In Seminary this year we are studying the Old Testament. For our Christmas party I thought that it would be fun to have a review of the year so far with Minute to Win it games. Here is what I came up with. I gave each team 5 apples and had them do their best to stack them. The team who had the most apples stacked at one minute won. You could also have a person from each team eat an apple and the person who eats most of the apple wins. For this one you will need 2 jars and a bunch of plastic animals. I taped a picture of Noah's Ark to the outside. Each person puts the jar by their feet. While standing straight each person tries to drop an animal into the jar from their nose. The teams that has the most animals is the jar at one minute wins. Each team is given a stack of cups. The team who has the tallest tower at one minute wins. For this one you will need 2 empty tissue boxes, 2 belts and 16 ping pong balls. Put slits on the two sides of the tissue box to slip the belt through. Fill each tissue box with 8 ping pong balls. Each person playing ties the belt around his waist with the box in the back. They both have one minute to dance around until all of the ping pong balls (seeds) have been bounced out of the tissue box. For this you will need 2 straws, 40 marshmallows, and two plates. Each person will have one minutes to get 20 marshmallows (sheep) into the plate (the pen) with the straw. For this challenge you will need 10 3"x 14" pieces of poster board and about 40 cups. Give each player 5 pieces of poster board and a stack of cups. Each player builds a ladder with the poster board for rungs. The team with the tallest ladder wins. Each team gets a copy of Joseph's coat to color. They have one minute to color it on their head. Each player must use at least five colors. The team is allowed to give advice on how to color in the lines. The team that does the best job wins. This one I did not end up doing. Here's how it could be done. You will need 20 old Bibles. Each team will have one member help another team member stack 5 Bibles in each hand. Then they will have to walk across the room with all 10 Bibles without dropping them. The team that gets all 10 Bibles across the room first wins. This challenge is in reference to Deuteronomy 33:17. Give each team a bag of Honeycomb cereal. Each team will have one member lie down on the ground while another team member stacks the honeycomb cereal, one on top of the other, to look like a unicorn horn. The team that has the tallest horn wins (without cheating). For this challenge you will need to print out two pictures of the brick wall below onto cardstock. Fold the cardstock in half like a card. Place the cards at one end of the table. Both teams have a member blow the card across the table and then try to get the card to hang off the edge without falling off. If the card falls off then they have to start all over. Bounce a ping pong ball at least twice to knock over Goliath. The first person to do it in under a minute wins. Here's a printout for you to use. For the Champions I made these trophies out of Toblerone. Just print out the picture below. Cut it out and glue it to the top of a Toblerone. The students loved it. I am a big fan of having the kids know who does what in the Bible. Or, for this post, are the people Old Testament or New Testament? We use the mailbox when there are just a couple of minutes to review the basic Bible facts. You can see the mailbox here. But, I thought instead of ( I changed my mind, and added the FFG also ☺) the file folder games that I have made for several Bible lessons, I wanted something on the wall that stays up and we can use when there is a little more extra time, which is very rare. But it happens. And time for Bible learning is a short time for some, so I don't want to waste it. I think I might even use it as kids come into class and we are waiting for everyone to arrive. But, anyway, I purchased the posters to use as the main topper, then the smaller set for sub headings. I wasn't sure what I wanted, but I do know I didn't want to spend the $30 for the pocket chart I liked! I wanted everything to match, and wanted it big so I couldn't print it myself. I found a poster I liked, then couldn't find anything else to match, etc. So, this is what I ended up with! I like the polka dots! The main top chart is CTP 1005 and is called Polka Dot Party and is $2.49. I cut the letters with my Cricut, using the Base Camp Cartridge, this Old/New was 3 1/2", and the rest cut at 2 1/2", including the Old and New on the following cards. The Old/New cards that match the above poster board are CTP 0957 $5.99 They have a border to match, CTP 7133 for $3.99, which the store did not have, but here it is so you can see it. While you are at CTP, you can go to the online catalog, then sign up for a free catalog to get more ideas! Most teacher's stores will let you request items also, that saves the shipping for you. This is the border I did find, that is a great match and matches some of the chart cards. I will use it on the bulletin board right next to this pocket chart. It is CD-1255 by Carson-Dellosa $2.99. You can also sign up at Carson-Dellosa for a free catalog. And, last, I also found another wall chart that I really liked, and would match everything. It is from Frog Street Press (FST 4684)... I'll find something to use it for!! $2.49 You can also get a free catalog from FSP, but you have to add it to your cart, place the order, and it goes through with out shipping charges. I decided to use the pocket charts I already had purchased just in case I could use them, because they were at the Dollar Spot @ Target! ☺So, I created the Bible people for use with this size pocket chart. FREE Bible Matching Game
Today I had a ton of fun making a Books of the Bible Lapbook. Print out all your pieces. Assemble the accordion books. Attach the cover to the front of the lapbook. How it looks when you first open it up. Bible notes on the left hand flap. Bible vocabulary on the right hand flap. The beginning part of the Old Testament books on the first insert. Under the Bible notes tabs. Just a close up of the first set of pockets. The accordion books are folded up. The match book vocabulary can be either written in or pasted in. Turn the first insert page over and here are the remaining pockets etc... for the OT. Then we have a 400 years separation note stuck to the bottom part of the page. Turning to the middle we start the NT pockets. And continue over for the remainder. How it looks when both inserts are open. On the back of the right hand insert. A full listing of the books of the Bible. Yes, so that's it. It is quite a project, and I suggest doing it in small parts as a child learns the Books of the Bible by rote memory. This is lesson five in a 13-week series that I used in my class. I wanted one quarter to introduce the Old Testament with a basic timeline of the people and events. The students can learn what happened in the Old Testament and how those events lead to Jesus. These lessons are a combination of the Life Overview Series and other lessons. They have been updated and tweaked since I taught these. I will show you what I used to blend several posts into 13 lessons. It was basically pick and choose and you can change any to fit your needs. This lesson teaches about Joseph in Genesis. The lesson explains the Big Picture. I used Cathy’s visual with Joseph’s Coat and updated it to make it easier to use. Keep in mind these lessons are slightly longer with very different application reviews. I updated Cathy's coat visual. I rearranged the pieces so they are placed in order instead of random on the coat. I updated the lesson slightly to my style and for a couple of the pieces that I changed. If you prefer not to make the coat visual, this file has updated visuals and the adapted lesson outline. I print my visuals on cardstock, and tape each section of the lesson to the back. The dreams are interesting to discuss and this worksheet will help the students remember who dreamed it. They just draw a line from the name to the correct dream. Some have more than one dream. There is an answer sheet with scriptures included. Click here to download. I designed this file folder game for the Life of Joseph. The (left) money bag is the cover and can be printed in color or black & white onto color paper. The (right) inside has the numbered 'coins' for the student to put Joseph's life in order. It can be used to review or discuss his life. The top is for the students and the bottom is the completed set for teacher's visual or if you want to use it already done. There is a list of answers with scripture if you want to make a lesson using this. This is designed so that if you prefer to cut out the bag... you can. It is a lot more work, but it can be done. Glue the cover on the file folder and cut it out (both sides of the file folder). Then, glue the inside on. The silver coins are 2" circles. I purchased a punch to make it (so much) easier and perfect. Click here to see the punch. Here are some hints to make it easier to use a punch: For this type of use, I remove the safety shield on the bottom. They usually slide or pop off easily to clean. I cut each strip pretty close (about 1/4") from the circle (but not on the circle). Turn the punch upside down and insert the picture (as shown) inside so you can place it perfect in the punch area to be cut. Squeeze and you have a perfect easy circle! The silver coin pictures can be kept in a sandwich bag, an envelope or these library pockets. You can find these just about anywhere. Craft stores, Dollar Tree and teacher supply stores. I plan to reuse these with future classes, so I did not glue the pocket onto the file folder. They can be Velcroed, but it is hard for the students to get them out of the pocket, so I keep them in a storage bag. Keep in mind, you can use the circle punch to cut circles from gray or silver cardstock for other lessons with silver coins. Click here to download the file folder game. Even though we studied Jesus and Acts after this quarter, rather than removing any pictures, I printed those pictures already on the page along with a couple that we wouldn't have as it's own lesson. The original file has a teacher's visual completed. and a student file folder without any pictures on the timeline. All pictures will need to be cut and glued or made into stickers to use. The team that gets all 10 Bibles across the room first wins. This challenge is in reference to Deuteronomy 33:17. Give each team a bag of Honeycomb cereal. Each team will have one member lie down on the ground while another team member stacks the honeycomb cereal, one on top of the other, to look like a unicorn horn. The team that has the tallest horn wins (without cheating). For this challenge you will need to print out two pictures of the brick wall below onto cardstock. Fold the cardstock in half like a card. Place the cards at one end of the table. Both teams have a member blow the card across the table and then try to get the card to hang off the edge without falling off. If the card falls off then they have to start all over. Bounce a ping pong ball at least twice to knock over Goliath. The first person to do it in under a minute wins. Here's a printout for you to use. For the Champions I made these trophies out of Toblerone. Just print out the picture below. Cut it out and glue it to the top of a Toblerone. The students loved it. We recently learned the story of Ruth in Bible Class. This story is such an encouraging story. It teaches great lessons of love, devotion, dedication, selflessness, and strength in times of hardship. I also love to teach the concept of being a hard worker when teaching the story of Ruth. The story of Ruth should be taught when teaching through the Judges. I will give one word of warning....my kiddos struggled with her name. They continually called her "Rahab." I would have to constantly remind them her name was RUTH. We had to go over all the names of the people in this lesson several times. Since they seemed to struggle...we focused mainly on Naomi, Ruth, Orpah, Boaz, and Obed. I figured if they could get these names down and what part they had to do with the story and who was in the family line of Jesus then I would be happy. We had success after reviewing several times and in several methods. Don't give up...and if you realize your students are confused....don't be afraid to slow down and reteach a lesson. I would rather "fall behind a week" than for the kiddos NOT to understand something. The song you see in the picture above was a great help with teaching this story. The kids got the song down rather quickly....We enjoyed singing it together. For the "Take Home" project the children made a Ruth paper doll and glued on wheat to her basket. Her arm is attached with a brad so that it can move. Our memory verse was Ruth 1:16. This was a very fun memory verse. We sang it several times and the kids had it memorized before leaving class on Sunday. I did have some word to explain. Like the word "wither" and "lodge." We did a map review today. The kids amazed me...they remembered where MOAB was. They recalled the story of King Eglon and Ehud. I was very impressed. I love being impressed by 4 and 5 year olds. It just makes me smile. Our Review Activity was a "Gleaning Wheat" game. Each student answered a question from the lesson. If they got the answer correct they would take my basket and glean in the "Field of Boaz." Our classroom floor served as Boaz's field. :-) The kiddos LOVED playing this game. I love getting them out of their chairs and learning as we 'play." The Wednesday "Explorer Journal" Activity was a picture of Ruth to color and then they glued on Wheat...Looks like she is in a wheat field. This was a fun lesson to teach. Even with the name struggles. The kiddos loved the "REAL" wheat and learned so much about being devoted, helpful and hard workers. Blessings.
