... is falling down. Steph had a photo shoot today and I went to help her - how fun! After the shoot, she asked if I wanted to go take pictures of an old church that she had found. Of course, it sounded wonderful! I wasn't disappointed - well, maybe a bit that a church was falling down, but not that I had the opportunity to take pictures of it. Take a look: We also went back to see this old truck - a favorite of ours to take pictures of: Funny, it never seems to change though. Wonder why we feel the need to go back and visit it? Had a great day out checking out things to take pictures of. I can always waste time taking pics while waiting on the go ahead to look for a house - right? I might need a few more lenses... let me see... I should start naming them, maybe one will fall in my hands. I could take pictures of birds... eagles to be specific... and for that I need...

I can't really explain it, but I do have this attachment to old dilapidated structures like barns or farm houses. Perhaps that is because I wonder at the history behind them. This old barn is walking distance from our neighborhood, but it is clear that this was part of a productive farm before the suburban sprawl spread into the farmlands in this part of the valley. This building was once part of someone's life and livelihood, and yet now it lies abandoned, slowly deteriorating with the passing days. On Wednesday, December 29th, my son-in-law who was visiting, my youngest son and I went out to do some photography. Since our time was limited we went to a place in the foothills of the North Cascades about a half hour away where we had seen and photographed a yard full of old vehicles and machinery. The place is not a junkyard, but appears to be private land on which a quite a number of these old vehicles are displayed without any attempt being made to protect them from the elements. The vehicles include old cars and trucks as well as old tractors, and old logging and construction equipment including an old steam shovel, old bulldozers and caterpillars, and old farm equipment. We would have asked permission but there seemed to be no one about and no one said anything about our being there and taking pictures, so we snapped away, though the day was a bit wet and gray. These are some of the pictures we took that afternoon.
