This activity has students watch short video clips on mammal parents, and then analyze what the parent does to help the offspring survive, cover the Next Generation Science Standard: 1-LS1-2: Read texts and use media to determine patterns in behavior of parents and offspring to help offspring survive. This activity book goes along with the videos and give the students graphic organizers to fill in what they learn from the videos. Then the students will analyze how human parents help their children and compare it to the animals they studied. There is also a Venn Diagram for the students to fill in to compare/contrast how two of the animals care for their offspring. The animals covered in this lesson are: polar bears, meerkats, leopards, elephants, orangutan, and river otters.
