Aloha everyone! Tomorrow is the first day of school and my classroom is all set to go. It wasn't too difficult getting it ready since I decided to stick with my surf theme. On Wednesday we received our class lists and I had 18 students. By Friday I was down to 16! 10 boys and 6 girls. I hope I don't lose anymore. I would hate to see one of our second grade teachers lose their spot! I did some rearranging and I added a few new items. I also got rid of as much as possible to make more room. Please ignore my messy desk and a few bags on the floor, it wasn't quite the end of the day. I love having natural light from all windows, but I have no wall space! And when the wind whips through EVERYTHING flies off the desks!! This is the view from the front of the room. This is the back of the room. I moved my cubbies this year and added a number so I wouldn't have to do it again next year. My math tubs got some new labels. So did my manipulatives. Number sense posters in English and Hawaiian. The ten frames are surfboards :) Word problem posters Writing Center Supplies My updated library. I just love the labels! New Job Chart. I think it came out so cute. My Cowabunga bulletin board. Each time my students surf up to Cowabunga on our clip chart they receive a bead to add to their necklace. Once they have 5 beads they trade it in for another reward tag. I love the new clips on the chart! The buckets got some new labels. Guess I forgot to make myself a new label. New lunch chart Surfer of The Week Class Rules I have had that rules poster on the left forever!! I think it may be time to update. My welcome banner And last but not least my desk. I am really happy with the wide open feel and all the cute new surf decor. Last year I hosted a Classroom Theme linky party and I thought it would be really fun to do it again! Share your classroom theme, or just pictures of your new set up. I love looking at everyone's classrooms and I know others do to! Last year's linky is still my most popular post and has had over 20, 000 views! Monday is the big day and I am really looking forward to a fun new year with a great new group of kids and teachers! When is your first day? Link up and tell all about it!

This is a great back to school activity for an ocean-themed, underwater or fish classroom! Or if you just want to read Rainbow Fish to your students and have this be the activity that follows. All you do is print, hand it out to students, and let them enjoy this activity! The students are asked to draw and write words on this fish that help you and their classmates get to know them. They draw their family, favorite hobby, subject in school, etc. They also include a goal for the new school year. It's an easy and quick way to get to know your students. Then you can hang these up in your classroom, on a bulletin board, or on your door during the first week of school. Some ideas of sayings you could put above these fish are: *Ready to TACKLE a new school year *We are O’FISH-ally in Third Grade *Welcome to our “SCHOOL” *Swimming into the new year *Welcome to a “FIN’tastic year *Mrs. Hardy has a great catch *We may all be different fish, but in this school we swim together Hope you enjoy this product!
I have been dying to link up with my sweet friend Kacey over at Doodle Bugs for her Five for Friday post. Well, I have come to this realization...that is never gonna happen! :) By the time Friday night hits...this teacher is so doneeee! So...pretend today is Friday! Here is how my week went down! 1: SLEEP You know you are exhausted when you fall alseep in your school clothes and don't wake up until 6:30 a.m. True story. On Monday night, I told myself that I would lay down for just a second, and before I knew it, it was 6:30 the next morning. I was still asleep...fully clothed...jewelry and all! My husband even tried to wake me up and then he gave up! {Not sure if I believe that story!} :) ...seriously though, I need summer to get here ASAP so I can be awesome every single day! Ha! 2: Summer Writing Fun After a week of state testing, we are back to a normal routine. This week, we spent a lot of time writing our way through my End of Year Writing Bundle. The kids loved thinking about and planning their futures. After that, we also planned our summer with our Dive into Summer Writing. Love how these turned out, but I love these sweet babies even more! Going to miss them so, SO much! {But we won't talk about that right now!} 3: Do the Harlem Shake A few days ago, I posted about my end of the year behavior management system. If you missed that, we are using balloons! :) So...what was day three you ask? Make a Harlem Shake Video. The kids brought props and were counting down the seconds until go time! Here is our Harlem Shake... 4: Science Experiment Fun I love living so close to a local university. They are always so wonderful about bringing experiences directly into the classroom. On Friday, our kids were instructed by the 5th and 6th graders {they were trained earlier in the week}. During this time, they completed 12 hands-on science experiments! Such a great way to give ownership to our older kids and build school community throughout our grade levels. Also a great way to keep our kiddos engaged during these last few weeks! 5: End of year mayhem! Oh my...I can feel it inching closer. Today, I will be working on my classroom awards and finishing up my end of year gifts. Here is a little peek... I will be posting more about this tomorrow! Be sure and link up with Doodle Bugs to show us your week! Have a great weekend!

A Day at the Beach 2nd Grade For more information please follow me on Instagram @youngschoolartwithmr.g Like me on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/youngschoolart/ We're ready for summertime! We mixed our own tints and shades to create a beautiful day at the beach! We enjoyed designing our own flipflops and adding details such as an anchor and a starfish. How do you create a tint? How do you create a shade? We loved painting the waves! First, we painted white waves. Next, we painted blue waves. Lastly, we mixed the two colors together to create a tint of blue. We looked at many different types of anchors and found many hidden letters such as T, J, i, and U. This was very helpful when it came time to draw the anchor. We used Q-tips to add details to the starfish. Writing Connection: Write about your favorite day at the beach.
