This blindfolded maze game teaches obedience to children. My kids loved playing this game, wanting to try completing the maze over and over again. Teaching through games speaks volumes to kids. How much do you really know about your own hands? Throughout history, civilisations have been defined by the work of human hands: inventing tools, writing records, operating machinery, typing, texting, swiping. But beneath this known history is another, secret story: our hands are not the obedient servants that they seem to be. Through conscious and…
Is obey the new four letter word? Sometimes it feels like it – especially when I post and share my thoughts and ideas on parenting. I remember the Facebook comments when I first shared this post on teaching kids to obey with the “Yes, Mommy” game. Some of the comments included the opinion that kids shouldn’t be...Read More

When we get upset or frustrated, it is critical to communicate how we feel. This can be healthy and productive if done the right way, but it can also lead to more frustration and trauma if done in an unhealthy way. Identifying the differences between “healthy venting” and “emotional dumping” can allow us to communicate our anger more effectively and find clarity in our relationships. These are a set of guidelines Dr. Judith Orloff recommends in her book “The Empath’s Survival Guide”. If you are an empath like me, you will notice yourself feeling drained and having low self-worth after experiencing (receiving or delivering) emotional dumping. It is also important to create boundaries when someone is emotionally dumping on you. One way to do this is by politely asking to talk about the issue when the other person (or both of you) are calmer. How do you communicate your frustration? What helps you and what seems to overwhelm you?

'The name of governess, I soon found, was a mere mockery ... my pupils had no more notion of obedience than a wild, unbroken colt' When her family becomes impoverished after a disastrous financial speculation, Agnes Grey determines to find work as a governess in order to contribute to their meagre income and assert her independence. But Agnes's enthusiasm is swiftly extinguished as she struggles first with the unmanageable Bloomfield children and then with the painful disdain of the haughty Murray family; the only kindness she receives comes from Mr Weston, the sober young curate. Drawing on her own experience, Anne Brontë's first novel offers a compelling personal perspective on the desperate position of unmarried, educated women for whom becoming a governess was the only respectable career open in Victorian society. This edition also includes Charlotte Brontë's memoir of her sisters, theBiographical Notice of Ellis and Acton Bell. Angeline Goreau examines Anne Brontë's complex relationship with her sisters and her unhappy career as a governess as influences in writing Agnes Grey.
