Red Cross nurses trained in close association with the NHS. At Abbots Langley Hospital in Hertfordshire, Red Cross nurses trained on the wards. In 1968, the local authorities asked the Red Cross to organize the visitors’ tea bar. The profits of the tea bar were put back into hospital funds and paid for training equipment for the nursing school. Find out more about the history of our hospitals and nursing.
