This year, my 7-year-old son's Pokémon obsession inspired me to throw a Pokémon birthday party. Join me as I share all the details and tips from our Pokémon celebration! Admittedly…
OMG. I'm sooo tired. Exhausted. But at least, it's over! All the big rush is OVER! It was my man's birthday the last week of august, the back-to-school for my big girl (she just started kindergarten), her birthday (a family supper last weekend, her real birthday on friday and the kids birthday party yesterday) and on top of that, she had a big allergic reaction on thursday at school, she got bite by a mosquito on her cheek and it got so puffy and swollen, the school got scared and called me. I had to go to the doctor rush rush that evening to get a prescription for EPIPEN and for Benadryl so they can have the authority to do the administration of the medecine in case it happens again. But now she's ok :) It was a crazy 2 weeks to be honest. It was really hard to deal with all the new routine, on top of all the birthdays. Now it's OVER and I can BREATHE! I was really proud of all the stuff I did for my daughter's 5th birthday party! It took a lot of time, but I was really happy with the result! Same with my daughters! A lot of DIY (thanks Pinterest) but wow it was worth it! And a big big thank you to my friend Genevieve who helped me a lot to do the decorations :) Here's a few pictures ! CREEPER TOSS This one is my favorite DIY project! I saw it on Pinterest, I found it was really cool! I also created those little pockets with red and white felt, rice, glue gun and a black Sharpie. The green panel I bought it at Michael's for like 8$ CDN, it was already folded like that. BALLOONS : I did also a lot of balloons ... I used colored balloons, differents ducktape colors (bought at Michael's, pretty expensive to be honest, it was like 7 or 8$ per roll... I had to buy 3! I also bought some crepe streamers for the arms for about 1-2$ per roll (used that also for other stuffs!) Here's Reuben the pig and an Enderman : Here's a CREEPER GASP My favorite one, a Mooshroom ! The Spider (and a little black cardboard with ducktape for the eyes, just for a little Enderman face) GIFT BAGS For the gift bags, I bought/made : - See through gift bags at Walmart (2$ for the pack), - 7 boxes Minecraft Blind Box Serie 3 at Toys r Us for about 4$ each, - 7 Hershey's chocolate bar at the dollar store and I printed some Chocolate Bar Wrapper here. Just had to glue them on the chocolate bar! The kids were so excited to eat Minecraft Chocolate Bar ;) - Minecraft Bookmarks that I printed here. I bought some crafting stuff to do the strings for 2$ at Walmart. - "Thank You For Coming" paper that I got here So it came up max 5-6$ per bag, thats pretty good I find. Previous birthdays I was going to the dollar store, but it always end up costing at least 10$ per bag in order to have something decent. The kids seems really happy ! The food table I had so much fun doing this! I had a hard time finding some nice FREE printable food labels.. They were either expensive, of just not really nice... I could have done them myself, but I didn't had the time to do it this time. I found some really nice one on another Blog (Fiveinsix). She made them herself and shared them on her blog, so thank you very much! I made 2-3 myself for the one that was missing.. The only thing I didn't do, it's the cupcakes and the cake. I have zero talent so thank you very much to Christine-et-gourmantines.com for those nice goodies :) I bought all the things at Bulk Barn and the grocery store. The diamond sword were really popular! For the grass, my mom made some brownies with chocolate frosting with food coloring. NETHER PORTAL I think this one was the more popular with the kids. It was super easy and cheap to do! I got the idea from Pinterest, I just bought 2 different purple crepe streamers and a black one, and I used construction paper for the NETHER banner. Happy Birthday Banner I also found a nice free printable banner here. I printed the letters, cut them and glue them on a thin cardboard (the paper where rolling up, so I had to find something more strong) and I used some green rope and a glue gun to fix the banner. Pretty simple! OTHER DECORATIONS I also put other regular decorations, I used a lot of crepe streamers in the Minecraft color theme. * Sorry for the bad lighting for the one on the window! ;) * And now, for the games! I had a lot of fun to do that too! Minecraft Mask I bought a big black cardboard (same one as the Creeper Toss!) and cut both side in 3 (it was making perfect squares) for a total of 6. I also bought a pack of wood sticks at Walmart (I used the glue gun to fix the stick on the back of the cardboard) *I used the middle of the cardboard to avoid any waste, to do the Enderman, the face next to the spider before* I just used a knife to do 2 holes for the eyes. I also cut a lot of little squares construction papers of differents colors and put them in differents bowls. I cut them the size for a perfect fit 8x8 like the template. I bought 6 small glue stick and a pack of wood sticks at Walmart. I made a table just for that, and it was a big hit! I printed the templates for the faces (I can't find the website, I'm sorry! But it can easily be found on google images for all the faces you want!) And for the last game... The Little Piggy! It was also a big hit !! Easy to make (just research pictures on Google Image, or just look at mine hehe!) and really fun! I used felt and glue! Super fun for the kids!
From the day she first watched the movie Tangled (after confusingly meeting Rapunzel at Disney World before she knew who she was), my daughter’s one wish for her birthday was to ‘see the floating lights, just for 24 hours.’ No pressure, right? My daughter’s birth was the single best and worst day of my life. ...

Our youngest son, Noah, turned three this month. Noah LOVES Hot Wheels cars. He has a little wagon full of Hot Wheels cars that he pulls around the house. He is constantly setting them up in lines, crashing them into walls or racing them down Hot Wheels tracks. And so it was no surprise that he wanted a Hot Wheels birthday party! We hosted the party at our local My Gym and he had a blast celebrating with his friends. Evite has great Hot Wheels themed invitations right now. They are super cute! Our invitation said "Come and RACE around the gym with me!". I found this shirt at Walmart for $5. Such a deal! It says "Nobody is faster than me!". The party was from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Since it was after lunch and before dinner, we served snacks and cake. I purchased the Hot Wheels tablecloth, hat, banner and napkins at Party City. They have a great Hot Wheels section. I had fun making all the snacks fit the theme. We served Red Vines as "Dipsticks". Rice Crispy Treats as "Stop Lights" Oreos as "Spare Tires" Chex Mix as "Nuts and Bolts" Water bottles as "Coolant". I found tape that looks like a road and used that to wrap the water bottles. We ordered this Hot Wheels cake from Walmart. Out little guy was thrilled! For the favor, each child got to go home with a goodie bag filled with some colorful candy and their very own Hot Wheels car. The goodies inside The party favors. I used this free printable: http://lessordinarydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/01/free-printable-i-wheel-y-like-you-hot.html?m=1 for the favor tags but changed the words to read: "I Am Wheel-y Glad You Came"! Happy 3rd Birthday Noah!

The party was amazing. AMAZING! (If I do say so myself...) The kids had a wonderful time, the parents were blown away, and I didn't even end up with migraine! My husband and I spent countless hours planning, creating, and preparing for this party; It was worth every minute. Upon arrival, children were escorted through the front door, which had been transformed into Platform 9 3/4. I made a Platform 9 3/4 sign by painting a piece of wood red, then using my Silhouette to cut "HOGWARTS EXPRESS" from sparkly gold paper. I Mod Podged the letters to the board, along with a Hogwarts crest that I found on Google Images, then printed and cut. I used a bowl to draw a circle on the board, painted it white, then drew and painted the 9 3/4 with black paint. I think it looks pretty close to the sign from the movie! The brick wall was made from a light blue sheet that I picked up at Goodwill. My husband cut it to fit our doorway, then drew the bricks on with a Sharpie. He also cut the slit for the kids to run through. I spray painted it red, keeping the spray can at a bit of a distance so as to create an uneven look, like bricks. I made this flag to hang outside our house. Sort of like balloons for a regular party, right? The how-to for the flag can be found here. Inside our house, the kids found The Great Hall, with a nighttime sky on the enchanted ceiling. In the books and movie, robes are a must-have at Hogwarts. I sewed a robe for each of the kids, nine total. They took me about a half-hour each, although eventually I just assembly-lined them, doing all the ironing at one time, hems at one time, etc. After they had their robes, the children were taken to Ollivander's Wand Shop. There, they could choose a wand. My husband carved unique patterns into all of the wands. Didn't he do an incredible job? The kids decorated their wands with markers. They also could choose Phoenix feathers or dragon scales for the core of their wands. My husband drilled holes into one end of each wand. The kids stuffed them with feathers and small jewels (dragon feathers), and then I sealed the holes with hot glue. Next was the Sorting Hat. I created this hat using crumpled brown paper bags. I hot glued torn pieces of the bags to a black witches hat that we had in our dress up clothes. I tried to make the face look like the hat from the movie--My son loved it, but I'm not so sure. I thought long and hard about how to have the Sorting Hat speak. We thought about walkie-talkies or recordings. But eventually, we decided to go with a baby monitor. We hung a the speaker-end of the monitor inside the Sorting Hat, then put the other end in our basement. My husband went downstairs and spoke into the baby monitor as the Sorting Hat, so it sounded like the hat was talking. It worked perfectly--One of the dad's even asked me afterwards how we did it. Success! After being sorted, we went to Potions Class. Each child got a small ceramic cauldron (found at JoAnn's). The first potion contained an explosive clear liquid (water), jellyfish serum (bubble solution), and fire rocks (dry ice). The kids were amazed by this. We had to rinse out the cauldrons between potions, so the kids spent the time stupifying each other. We brought the benches for our picnic table inside and covered them with Dollar Store black tablecloths (same for the table). It really added to the look of The Great Hall. The next potion was a mixture of water and Iocane Powder (cornstartch). This went unbelievably well. Everybody had fun mixing, then being shocked that their solid turned "runny." One kid said, "It's like a solid liquid!" Yup, you got it. This made a huge mess, so I was very glad that we had put down the tablecloths. After Potions was over, it was time for a little QUIDDITCH! Everybody got a broom, made from sticks and brush, found on the side of the road, courtesy of my hubby. We had three foam balls, all red--One large one that was the Quaffle and two smaller ones that were the Bludgers. The kids were separated into two teams. They had to try to get the Quaffle through one of the hoops, but if they were hit by a Bludger, they had to drop the Quaffle. They also had to stay on their brooms. The rings were made by spray painting hula hoops that were nailed to wood, stuck in the ground. There were three on each side, just like in real Quidditch. That's a Bludger. Prior to the party, I spray painted a golf ball gold, then hid it in our yard. We chose a Seeker from each team, and rotated the Seekers each time a team scored--Those kids were responsible for searching the yard for the Golden Snitch. Here it is after being found. Quidditch took a lot of energy, so it was time for some food! Cake time! My son wanted a Golden Snitch cake--No pressure there, right? This is what I came up with: I have a lot of pictures from the making of this cake, so I'll post a how-to sometime in the near future. In case you're wondering, though, yes, the wings are edible too! Edit: Here's the how-to on the cake. This was the coolest part of the cake by far--It was filled with Jelly Bellies, i.e.. Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans! When I cut the first piece out of the cake, the Jelly Bellies all spilled out too. The kids (and adults!) thought that it was pretty amazing. One of the dads was completely incredulous that I had made the cake--He told me that it was "just so magical." Talk about a compliment! We also served Butterbeer. It was Cream Soda (CAUTION: Be sure to buy non-caffeinated soda! The first time my husband bought it, I checked the can and it had caffeine. Can you even imagine?!?), mixed with Butterscotch Syrup. I served it in small Ball glass jars that I had put in the freezer before the party, and then sprayed some Ready-Whip on top. I liked it, so did a few of the kids, but I'm not sure I'd make it again... So that's our party! I forgot to take any pictures of the invitations--They were invitations to Hogwarts, printed on parchment paper, then sealed with red wax and the Hogwarts H. I'll see if I can scrounge one up for pictures. I think the reason this party worked so well was because of all the prep-time. We also kept each activity to 15 minutes, so nobody got bored. Everything moved quickly and fluidly, because of the preparation. My son said that it was the best party he'd every been to, and, pardon my lack of humility here, I'm going to have to agree with him! I'm linking up to these parties: Pin It

I was all down to throw my son’s 5th birthday party at Nickel City. This is what I did for my daughter for her 9th birthday earlier this year and my son told me during her party that he wanted the same party. Awesome! I thought. There was no setting-up, decorating, planning, or …
Good Morning! Well, Friday I posted some fun, outdoor summer activities for the kiddos... you know, dulldrum busters? Well, I was so inspired, that I combined some of the ideas to make a full out Police Obstacle Course for my two favorite little guys! If you'd noticed, Lil' A is pretty gunhoe on becoming a Police Officer/ SWAT Team Member/ Game Warden/ Sherrif... and my nephew, Aidan, is planning out his super hero career day to day, so I thought a way to hone their skills would keep them happy and busy! Here's your Mission, if you choose to accept it: Complete each obstacle in order to reach and release the prisoners. Obstacle 1: Make your way through the hanging obstacles (pool noodles) without touching the obstacles. Once through, run to... Obstacle 2: Test your coordination and balance by crossing the balance beam. Keep'er steady, steady now! Run to... Obstacle 3: Grab your squirt gun, NERF fun or sling shot and take aim! Hit the ping pong balls off the golf tees and then move onto... Obstacle 4: Move through the tunnel as fast as possible, be ready to be on your feet in a flash and move onto... Obstacle 5: Watch your step! Be ready to move under, over and all around the trip wires! Don't let them touch you anywhere so you can climb on up the rock wall, slide down and run over to... Obstacle 6: Since you've already mastered shooting ping pong balls on the ground, lets change directions and shoot whiffle balls hanging from the tree - get all of them before running over to... Your final obstacle! Let's see if you're a Marksman by shooting and hitting all point sections on the bulls eye! Don't move on until you hit the center circle! And now run as fast as you can and... RESCUE YOUR OBJECTIVES! Phew! Greeny (Angels Mitt) and Goofy were imprisoned by some serious bad guys but you've proven that good triumphs over evil! And you've earned the Serious Police Face, my future Law Enforcer! For anyone out there interested in creating a similar obstacle course, here's what you'll need: (Dollar Tree Store) Rope (2-3 rolls depending on the size you want your trip wire/laser course) Ping Pong Balls (I got 3 packs of 8) Pool Noodles Sling Shot Squirt Guns (Target) Golf Tee's NERF guns Whiffle Balls Other Supplies: Chairs Twine Tunnel (large box or something they can crawl through) Paper for Bulls eyes Prisoners/Cell Just be creative... the kids will find a way to make 300 different games from this one course so don't worry too much about it. I believe that the ping pongs were alligator eggs and the tunnel was a tree trunk home for the boys... kids are so good at that! * course could be Olympic, Mountain Man, Super Hero theme - just think about what your Lil's like best! Have a great day and give your best cop face a chance! Andrea

Little M&M chose Pokémon for his birthday party theme this year. Although this is not something I am terribly familiar with, I still had a ton of fun putting this party together for him. Take a look at some of our party details below: FOOD Here is our beverage table (the free printable water bottle labels came from here): Our party began at 2pm, so we just served snack foods at the beginning of the party, cake at the end of the party and then ordered pizza for whomever was still around at night. This was a family-only party so that was basically everyone! Here are the foods we served as people arrived: And here are our three homemade cookie cakes. We wanted to use primarily chocolate/vanilla frosting so we only made one Pokéball cake out of pre-packaged, colored frosting. PARTY ACTIVITIES and GAMES We love putting together fun games for our parties! Here is what we did today: GAME #1: This game was for the kids and the adults. We simply placed gummy worms in a jar and asked our guests to guess how many "caterpie" were in the jar. At the end of the party we peeked at the guesses, and the person who guessed the right amount (or came the closest) was able to take the jar home with them! GAME #2: Our first hands-on activity of the day was to design a pokéball. We purchased smooth foam balls from the craft store, and offered crayons for them to use to draw on them. I found a perfect chart on Google with some of the most popular pokéballs to serve as inspiration (though the link is faulty so I cannot credit the original maker of this awesome chart). Some of the kids decorated a specific pokéball from the chart: and others designed their very own: GAME #3: Our next game was a scavenger hunt! I created this pokédex in Photoshop Elements and hid each Pokémon image featured on it around the main level of the house. This was surprisingly a super engaging and well-loved activity! The kids were so excited to run around looking high and low for these Pokémon. Later when asked what his favorite part of the party was, the scavenger hunt was definitely mentioned! GAME #4: One thing I know about Pokémon is that you've "Gotta catch 'em all!" So that was the main idea behind this next game. I purchased red and white bowls from the Dollar Tree, and added one Pokémon image to each, with increasing point values. The kids had to use their own pokéball (which they decorated earlier in the party) to toss into the bowls. After five throws, the person with the highest sum of points was the winner. They stood behind a masking tape line just a few feet away from the first bowl. Each kid threw the ball five times, and I was so pleased that everyone got at least a couple shots into the bowls. Some sharp throwers even "caught" the 100-point MewTwo! GAME #5: I discovered this fun science activity on this website. It was such a great addition to the party! We purchased a bag of miniature Pokémon from Amazon. Using a 2:1 mixture of baking soda and water, we hid them inside little eggs. Then, using pipettes and vinegar, the kids were able to "hatch" some Pokémon eggs! We were lucky in that our bag of assorted Pokémon contained 6 Pikachus! So we were sure to include those (distinguishing them with yellow food coloring dots on the eggs) to ensure each guest could hatch a Pikachu (only my two kids had to share one). We had each of the 7 kids hatch a total of three eggs, and then they could take them home with them! For the kids this was a big hit, but note that the vinegar smell was strong at this moment, and the adults definitely noticed! Perhaps open a window or do this activity outside if you are able! GAME #6: Our final game was a Beedrill Balloon Pop! We always like to have some kind of balloon game at our parties, but I wanted something different than the usual. So we blew up about 50-60 yellow and black balloons, filling some of them with images of Weedles and Kakunas (these are lesser evolved Beedrills). The object of the game was for the kids to pop all the balloons to find the one balloon containing the Mega Beedrill (the highest evolved Beedrill). They had SO much fun doing this. And...if you could believe it...the Mega Beedrill was discovered in the very LAST balloon! PRIZES Obviously the winner of the first game, guessing the number of Caterpies in the jar, received the jar of Caterpies. But for the other games that yielded a winner (Gotta Catch 'Em All and Beedrill Balloon Pop) we gave away these chocolate bar "medals." I quickly printed a little image to put on each of them. PARTY FAVORS I turned white favor bags into pokéballs using construction paper. Inside each was a Pokémon cup (Party City), Pokémon pencils and tattoos (Amazon) and some miniature chocolate bars with Pokémon face labels (free labels from here). Obviously, each guest also brought home their decorated pokéballs and the three figurines they each hatched from eggs. It was a tremendous success, and Little M&M was so happy! WE LOVE THROWING PARTIES! If you enjoyed looking at these party details, please take a look back at some of our other exciting themes: Mary Poppins (Honey Pot's 6th birthday party) The Good Dinosaur (Little M&M's 4th birthday party) Aristocats / Kittens (Honey Pot's 5th birthday party) Cars / Race Cars (Little M&M's 3rd birthday party) Peter Pan (Honey Pot's 4th birthday party)* Paw Patrol /Puppies (Little M&M's 2nd birthday party)* The Little Mermaid (Honey Pot's 3rd birthday party)* Hot Air Balloons (Little M&M's 1st birthday party) Elmo / Sesame Street (Honey Pot's 2nd birthday party) * Some of our most popular posts!
