This pattern is for a simple rectangular crochet shawl or stole. It is designed to be made from a single skein of lace weight yarn that has 874yds (800m). Gauge is not really important here. The shawl can be adapted to be wider, shorter, thinner, longer but any adaptations will change yarn requirements. The pattern has full written instructions for all sections and also charts that are colour coded for each row to make following the stitches super easy. An additional step by step chart is given for the central part of panel A. The sample was knit with Moonlightyarns hand dyed lace weight yarn made from 75% Extra Fine Merino 20% Silk 5% Silver Stellina Sparkle in midnight purple. A suggested substitute yarn is shown below.

This is a listing for 3,4, or 5 skein 4ply/fingering weight fade sets. You choose the base and colourway set. If your pattern calls for one of the colours to be 2 skeins, just pop over to that base and order an additional skein. You can even hold the yarn double for a DK pattern and fade very gradually (like the photo here). Fingering-weight / 4ply yarn, each skein is 100g/366m. That's 1830 meters of potential!

Recently I showed you the two black*grey*white projects I've got on my hooks. Today I'd like to share two other works in progress (yep, they add up!) which also have a theme in common. Polkadots. Oh, how I love dots! The first one is going to be my holiday project: mindless crocheting in the round and round and round. Mmm... I'm using the lovely cotton yarn I scored in Thailand last winter. You might recall my quest for cotton there. ;-) After much thinking what I wanted to make with this yarn, I decided on a polkadot-turned-into-a-square blanket. I searched online, I searched in my books - and I did find many lovely patterns - but I couldn't find the solid polkadot-in-square (without any corner gaps) I had in mind. So I had to come up with something else. It took some frogging, but I think I now have something that will work for this blanket. The challenge was to keep the circle actually round while turning the whole piece into a square. Okay, that sounds weird. Like redefining maths. But I guess (I hope) you know what I mean... Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with my solution. I'll have to see whether it still works when piecing the whole blanket together though... If so, I'll share it here of course! That will take a while though. For now I only have this small stack of circles. Yarn cakes turned into a yarn cupcake.... I'll have to crochet quite a few circles to get the desired size blanket. And then there is this other polkadot project: a scarf combining cotton (blue) and bamboo (greyish) with a dye dip effect. Not suitable to take with me on a holiday: it would mess up the carefully laid out order of the minidots. ;-) (BTW What's up with all the blue?!) I'm afraid this doesn't give a complete oversight of the projects I've got dangling from my hooks. Oh my. How are you doing Wip-Wise? Are you a less impulsive crocheter - and/or a better planner than I am? ;-) Thanks for dropping by. I really love your visits! Have a great day. ♦♦♦

The Iris hat is knitted with two strands of yarn and the brim is folded triple for extra warmth and coziness during the winter months. Combining a strand of silk-mohair knitted together with a fingering weight merino yarn makes the hat really soft and gives it a beautiful halo. The Iris hat pattern includes instructions for working the hat without mohair and using two strands of fingering weight together or using just a single strand of DK weight yarn. If you wish to make the DK weight version, omit all instructions where it says “hold both yarns together” and work with a single strand instead. You can easily adjust the size and length of the hat to get the fit you want. The hat is knitted from top down, so you can try it on as you knit it to make sure the head circumference and length are just perfect for your head. After the crown shaping the rest of the hat is just simple 1x1 ribbing. The Iris hat is designed for everyday use, and it knits up surprisingly fast. This is the perfect project to use the precious hand dyed skeins from your stash, as the simple texture really highlights the colors and texture of the yarn! You can either go for a muted look by choosing one solid and one speckled yarn or for extra speckles by picking both yarns in speckled colorways (either the same colorway or both different). Size: One size, women’s medium. The size and length of the hat are easily adjustable. To fit head circumference: 53-58.5 cm / 21-23 inches Total length (with folded brim): 22 cm / 8.5 inches Total length (with brim unfolded): 37 cm / 14.5 inches Needles: Mohair and DK weight versions: 3.25 mm / US 3 DPNs or circular needle for Magic Loop knitting for the top of the hat 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needle with a cable of 40 cm / 16” for the main part Fingering held double version: 3.00 mm / US 2.5 DPNs or circular needle for Magic Loop knitting for the top of the hat 3.00 mm / US 2.5 circular needle with a cable of 40 cm / 16” for the main part Gauge: 26 sts and 37 rounds = 10 cm over 1x1 ribbing on in the round holding both yarns together, after blocking, slightly stretched. This sweater features easy top down and seamless construction, is knit entirely in the round, and options for a rolled or ribbed neckline are included. The colorwork yoke is enjoyable, rhythmic, and engaging to knit and with just 2 colors per row, this pattern is suitable for those who are new to colorwork. The cuffs are my favorite part about this design! We knitters often joke about being stuck on sleeve island, but with fun colorwork at the end, it might just motivate you to bang these sleeves out. The body and sleeves are then separated- stitches for the sleeves are transferred to spare needles or waste yarn and underarm stitches are cast on. The body is worked on one circular needle and finished with a ribbed hem. Sleeve stitches are then transferred to knitting needles, the underarm stitches are picked up, and the sleeve is knit top to bottom, finishing with fun colorwork motifs and a rolled cuff.
