The Open Weave Wrap pattern introduces a new woven knitting technique. The background is eliminated so you are only working with warp and weft threads. The pattern has detailed how-to visuals and leaves itself open to use yarns from your stash or purchase yarns using your color choices. The knitting is not difficult, it requires only knit and purl stitches. You will be required to work both stranded and intarsia knitting. I suggest using bobbins to hold your warp yarns. West Wool Tandem version requires ±660 yards/605m, the Corrie Worsted version requires ±560 yards/515m This techniques opens up a whole new world to explore in knitting. While working it, try and think of variations that you could try such as smaller warp threads or larger wefts. There is so much experimentation to be done with this technique.

Many years ago, when travelling through New Zealand and admiring the ever-changing sky, I discovered my love for the colours and shapes of clouds. Coincidentally, the contemporary name of the Maori people for their country is “Aotearoa”, literally meaning “The Long White Cloud”.Aotearoa mitts feature a stitch and colours that remind me of fluffy cumulus clouds. They are constructed in an unusual way, with a decorative flap that shapes the upper part of the hand and defines the thumb hole when folded over. Light, elegant, and adorned with pretty buttons, these mitts or fingerless gloves will complement your evening wardrobe on one of those cool spring or autumn evenings and keep your wrists and forearms warm. The pattern includes both charts and full written instructions and has been tested and tech edited.Other suggested yarns: Koigu Painters Palette Premium Merino, Lana Grossa Cool Wool Baby, Malabrigo Mechita
Purl Soho's newest yarn, Alpaca Pure, is wonderfully suited for contrasts and warmth! This elegantly plied yarn is as articulate in a textured rib as it is in smooth stockinette stitch. And in 100% of the softest and coziest alpaca fiber we've ever felt, this worsted weight yarn creates the very fabric you dream about in the bitterest depths of winter. Our Structured Alpaca Cowl was inspired by the versatility of Alpaca Pure, its subtle sheen and sumptuous loft. A twisted rib pattern stands tall to protect the back of the neck, while a stockinette front gently drapes below the chin, framing the wearer's face and fortifying against the cold. Quick and simple to knit, gorgeous to wear, it's the ultimate last minute gift! Our Alpaca Pure collection comes in our classic palette of neutrals and blues with pops of our favorite wildflower brights. Enjoy this quick-knitting beauty, so perfect for holiday crafting and giving! -Laura
