Each of the 2 tiny 3/4 inch tall charms is a real working stackable sort-a-ring toy. You can remove each of the color rings and replace it on the silver stand. The colors are in the exact order of the rainbow - remember ROY-G-BIV? (R-red, O-orange, Y-yellow, G-green, B-Blue, I-Indigo, V-Violet). I can't think of a more fun way to remember your color spectrum! (YOU gNeek is all about fun and function and a little education! YOU Are Sooo Colorful - Removable Childhood Stacking Rings Necklace The silver plated metal stand hangs on sterling silver earwires. The loops are made thin enough for the rings to slide up and down. You can't lose the sorting rings because each of the rubber stoppers at the end is larger than the ring openings. All the rings are made of rubber except the top one. The top red one is made of pressed glass and I have used a diamond file to enlarge the opening to accommodate loops. Note that 2 of the 4 sides on the silver-plated base has a small hole. If you wish to add a birthstone to the opening, please contact me. The bottom is hollow. This product is not safe nor suitable for children because of the really small parts and the delicate nature of the charm. The actual Fisher Price stacking toy is not included and is shown for size comparison. Makes a great gift for toy lovers, functional jewelry fans and new and expecting moms too! I'm a bit late posting my oranges this time. A whole day late actually. Can I blame it on our new internet service which, supposedly, works at the same speed as the old service? Can I blame it on waiting until the little urchin were in bed and then crawling in bed myself with my lap top on my lap and thinking I hit the publish button before falling asleep? I can? Good. Both instances are true...although this one most likely falls more to user error. As oranges are still inside trying to stay warm up (where is spring?), I've culled back through the archives to re-post some favorites as well as a few newbies. Adventures from an organized Art Room
This was an exciting week in our 1st grade classroom. As I mentioned earlier in the week, we have been learning about weather. The kids really seemed to enjoy all of the activities we did. They already knew a lot about weather and were eager to share their own weather facts and stories. I have to admit this is the first year I have ever heard the kids talk about a “tsunami”. I guess they’ve been paying attention to world events. On Tuesday we learned more about wind. Being from Kansas we already knew a LOT about wind. We read Gilberto and the Wind by Marie Hall and then wrote about {good} wind and {bad} wind. On Wednesday we did a little experiment to see how rain is made. With the help of a hot plate we used our imagination and pretended it was the sun heating up. Then we put a pan full of water on it and pretended it was a lake. We watched closely as the water heated up and began to evaporate. Just like it does in a lake on a hot day. Then we filled a plate with ice and pretended it was a cold cloud. We put the cold plate on the pan filled with hot water. The cold plate caused the moisture in the warm air to condense and form water droplets. This is the same thing that happens in the atmosphere. Warm, moist air rises and meets colder air high in the clouds. Last we carefully lifted the cold plate of ice. The water vapor condensed on the bottom of the plate and formed precipitation. We made it rain in our classroom. We also learned a little more about clouds on Wednesday, too!! We read a few fun books about clouds and did some creative writing about what a cloud might look like. We used our imagination and a few cotton balls to make a shape in the sky. Then we used the following writing prompt . . . to write about what we made. {Once I looked up in the sky. I thought I saw a _______ but it was just a cloud.} On Thursday we read Thunder Cake by Patricia Pallocco. Before we read the story we made some predictions about what we thought a Thunder Cake was. We found out that it was a cake that Patricia made with grandma when she was a little girl. Like many of us, she was afraid of thunderstorms. So, her grandma helper her overcome her fear by gathering all of the ingredients and making a cake before a thunderstorm hit. After we read the story we also got to enjoy some Thunder Cake topped with strawberries thanks to this little cutie {and her mom}. We couldn’t even taste the secret ingredient . . . tomatoes!!! We wrapped up our week of learning about weather with some rainbow themed activities. First we met a rainbow expert. His name is ROY G. BIV and he taught us about the colors of the rainbow. Then we read some books about what makes a rainbow. We also made a torn paper rainbow art project . . . AND wrote about what each color of the rainbow reminded us of. Our favorite part of the day was when we enjoyed some rainbow Jello cups thanks to these two little cuties and their moms. They had every color of the rainbow!!! We also had fun at our weather themed centers this week reviewing many of the math and language art skills we have been covering in class.

Many of you know Julie B Booth as being my Roy G Biv partner. Have I ever mentioned that we're old friends from my days in Virginia? That I really and truly know Julie? Have I mentioned that she is a book author as well? Her first book, Fabric Printing at Home, was recently published. To kick off its release, Julie is celebrating with a blog tour of 13 artists whose work appears in the gallery as well as daily give aways. Fabric Printing at Home is filled with ideas and step-by-step instructions of how to print on fabric using normal kitchen objects. With chapters about Kitchen Textures and Found Object Printing, Beyond the Potato Print, Wrap It Up! Wraps and Foil, Recycled and Repurposed and Irresistible: Fabric Resists Using Kitchen Ingredients, Julie offers something for everyone. The piece that I contributed to the gallery falls under the found object printing category. When Julie first asked me to participate, I pondered what to use. My collection of wine corks seemed fitting. Now, I think Julie pictured a pattern of dots created by stamping the end of the cork, but I inserted toothpicks in the cork ends, rolled it through my inks and paints and then printed on paper. The cracks in the corks make varied and interesting marks. Once enough papers were printed, I cut and tore, assembled and reassembled, stitched and repeated steps 1 thru 5 Cloud Paper Water 1, Jennifer Coyne Qudeen until there were 7 pamphlet stitched books. The set is entitled Cloud Paper Water 1, based on Thich Nhat Hanh's Clouds in Each Paper which Sandra Brownlee so intuitively read to me during her Tactile Notebooks and the Written Word workshop at Big Cat Textiles in August 2013. Cloud Paper Water 1, Jennifer Coyne Qudeen Each book contains a word from the poem so cleverly hidden that even I can't find them now and, well, I wrote the words. The cover above appears in the gallery of Fabric Printing at Home. Julie is having a daily give away to celebrate. Stroll on over to her blog and leave a comment for a chance to win. I'm joining in the celebration as well by giving away a copy of Fabric Printing at Home. For a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post by midnight New York city time on February 13. The winner will be announced on Valentine's Day. I'm curious...what's the most unusual object you've used to print with? -------------- Be sure to visit all the stops on the Tour: February 2: Lisa Chin February 3: Lynn Krawczyk February 4: Jane Davila February 5: Carol R. YOU Are Sooo Colorful - Removable Childhood Stacking Rings Necklace This fun and nostalgic 3/4 inch tall necklace charm is actually a working sort-a-ring toy. You can remove each of the mini color rings and replace it on the silver stand. The colors are in the exact order of the rainbow - remember ROY-G-BIV?
