It's always a pleasure to work with a super creative parent on any party. This past Saturday, we helped style a cute rock star themed birthday party for a little girl who was turning five. The mom had been planning on this party theme for a year. She had picked up the fun banners on clearance that coordinated with the whole theme of the event. Thrift stores also became excellent sources to pick up more party items. Like the fun cassette background to the cupcake table. Which was actually a duvet cover. The pillowcase was used as part of the centerpiece for the kid table. The pink polka dot table cover that the mom used for the cupcake table was another sheet. Cardboard paper amps were also thrift store finds. Vinyl records were placed on our glass cake stands and glittery purple ribbon created the perfect serving trays. Tying coordinating purple ribbon around the popcorn scoop dressed it up. The mom made a fun birthday sign which she placed in a black frame, as well as a coordinating number 5 which she placed above the cupcake table. We supplied the drum set, amp, mic and mic stand, guitar, and tambourines to help set the stage for this rocking fifth birthday party. The mom hung twinkle lights behind two black sheets and a silver tablecloth which she was able to pick up on clearance from Christmas! Feather boas, sparkly microphones, and fun glasses not only were great party favors, but also served as great photo props for when the kids sang up on the "stage". The birthday girl's mom made the cupcake wrappers and picked up cute colorful cupcakes from Sam's Club. We made star sugar cookies and iced them with edible glitter that the mom had also made. Tutorials can be found on the internet for making edible glitter. A simple recipe that consists of sugar, food coloring, and baking. A fun activity for the kids that attended was decorating their own guitar using magic markers and glitter glue. Yes, our creative mom painstakingly cut out twenty of those cardboard guitars herself. We provided the black glitter stars for the guitars.

I’ve been working on organizing and setting up the new play room this week. When we first moved down south, the felt board was put away in the closet while we got settled. Yesterday I pulled it out and the kids LOVED it. Bonus of shuffling toys through…they forget about stuff and then fall in love all over again! I would catch each of them over by it playing silently…it was hours of play time. amazing. I know what my next DIY project is going to be… definitely adding more pieces to our Felt Board! I thought it would be fun to walk down memory lane and share past pieces I’ve made for it. Hope it gives you some inspiration if you are making one! Cupcake Felt Board. Y'all probably shouldn't read this. It was my first story, and I knew NOTHING about writing when I made it. I started it out of boredom at the beginning of quarantine.😭 Anyways...here's the description.. When Bakugo runs into a villain, he becomes 4 again, before he got his quirk. How will he deal with being a kid again? What will the rest of his class think? Will he ever turn back? Read to find out! The story takes place at the beginning of season 4. This isn't a ship story. Also, this is my first fanfiction. Please don't be too mean! (Edit: be as mean as you want. The story sucks, and I need to fix quite a few things in here.) After weather we dove right into plants. In first grade, the kids need to learn the parts of the plant and be able to describe the life cycle of a plant. Our first activity was a super fun craft project from a plant unit by Made for First Grade. The students had to make a flower and add the things a plant needs to live (sun, air, water, soil). They also labeled the plants and needs and its parts. Here's my example: On the first day I showed the kids my example and had them cut and glue the parts to make the flower. The next day I let them cut out the labels and glue them on their picture. Here are a couple of their finished projects! :) Everybody's flowers made our room look even brighter! :) We also read four books from the plants part series by Vijaya Bodach: Seeds, Roots, Leaves, and Flowers. These books are perfect for 1st grade but also share a lot of great information along with providing beautiful, close-up pictures. Later in the week we took a plant walk outside around our school. We used our sense of sight to see how many different kinds of plants we could find. Our school has a wonderful graden surrounding our portables so we found many different kinds of plants. We filled in a plant hunt checklist and found all the plants except for a cactus. At the end of the unit I had the kids draw their own flower and label the parts. I also had them draw the life cycle of a plant in their science journals As an extension activity, I had my kids write their own version of Jack and the Beanstalk. Instead of Jack, they got to be the main character. They came up with their own story of what would happen if they grew a giant beanstalk and climbed to the top. I was really impressed with how much my kids wrote. They really enjoyed coming up with their own ideas for a story. Lots of kids climbed up to find a castles and a giant like Jack did. One kid found a house made of candy while another found Santa Clause! :) A few of my kids even wrote about the life cycle of their beanstalk, starting with the planting of the beans. Hello Everyone! Thanks for stopping by! I wanted to share a little poetry activity we did today. I wasn't really sure if it was going to be successful or not, but the kids proved me wrong. These kids are amazing little writers and poets! I decided to try writing chants today and to go along with the whole dandelion thing, I had the kids write about what they wished for. I saw a similar idea on pinterest with a neat craft connection, so I can't take credit for the original idea. I did have to change things up a bit, but I think it worked!! First we brainstormed things that we wished for and created a chart to refer to later. Then the kids wrote a rough draft with "I wish" at the beginning of each section of the chant. We did some peer editting, and wrote a final piece. The fun part came next. I traced each kiddo's profile on black paper. You should have heard the giggles!! :) They cut them out and glued them to a blue background. Then we created the dandelion in the seed stage with just sticks and yarn.
