Enjoy your Home NOW! You can make this happen… live pretty, less stressed… within the time you have and your budget! Growing up, we 4 kids always “teased” my mom about how she ALWAYS would say “ok..lets make a plan”… Well, now that we are older..we still lovingly tease her but with the realization that WE SAY IT NOW ALL THE TIME! My husband laughs every time I say “ok babe we need to make a plan.” But Seriously. Make a plan. I’m a list girl. and that is the only way thing can happen sometimes! It helps take all the cluttered thoughts and stress we put on ourselves as women, wives, mothers to make it all be put together around us! By writing things down we can get it out of our head and onto paper. I love decorating my home..but sometimes things like, Oh I don’t know.. having 3 kids and no money to just throw around, get in the way ;) psh. lame. At the same time, I know that I want to not keep putting off these home projects that I know would make me LOVE our home.. and enjoy moments in it more! If I’m a …

My students' fascination with rocks is evident from the first day of school, when they start presenting me with the pebbles they collect out on the playground. These are no ordinary pebbles--they are treasures! Soon, their cubbies are full of these "treasures" and I find little rocks stowed away all over the room. You can download all of the free printables for my Kindergarten Rocks and Soil Unit here: Download Kindergarten Rock Unit I introduce this unit by reading a simple and sweet book about rocks: If You Find a Rock by Peggy Christian Then I present the kids with my own rock collection. Some of these rocks are just everyday, ordinary rocks that I've picked up in my yard or alongside the road. Some are special rocks I've either purchased or inherited--pieces of crystals, fools gold, pumice, volcanic glass, etc. I am also a sucker for those tourist traps alongside the highway that let you purchase polished rocks by the scoopful. I let the kids explore--touch, feel, use hand lenses, sort, and just play with the rocks. Then I send a letter home to families asking the kids to bring in one or two (which usually ends up being...

It's taken YEARS to get my wall of wisdom. When I teach, I learn. I learn that kids are visual creatures. Stuff just sticks better if you show it with a picture. So, all the wise things I have learned over the 15 plus years of teaching I have put into a poster form. There's still a lot of ideas floating around in my brain, but it takes time to get them all out. I know not all art teachers have time to make their own posters. So i decided a few years back that very time I make a poster, I scan it and put it on TPT (Teacher Pay Teacher) to share the opportunity for other teachers to use it in their classrooms as well. Please visit my store. Here you will download the image of the poster only. You take that download and print it from your printer, send it to an online photo center and get it shipped to your house, or take you download to a photo store to have printed in house. My secret? I sign up for CVS and Walgreen photo coupons and wait for a 50% off everything sale. Then I print me some poster. That is how I get all mine down. People always ask me how they print out, are they pix led or high quality? I scan them at home on the highest digital capability on my scanner. so, when you print them big, it looks great too. Visit Store Here... https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Lost-Sock-Art-Teacher I have included a lot of pictures below of how they turn out in real life. Tired of saying the same thing OVER AND OVER to your students! JUST A DOT, NOT A LOT!! I was. That's why I started making posters in the first place, just for me and my classroom. But things are so much more peaceful now when I have posters that say it. A poster speaks a thousand words, you know. Go see what I have I store for you and your classroom walls.. Oh, if only walls could speak.. WAIT, they can! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Lost-Sock-Art-Teacher My Newest Poster Get it here... https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Creativity-Takes-Courage-Poster-3413925 Visit my TeacherPayTeacher store here. Got lots of colorful designs to give your classroom "class" and brighten up your walls. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Lost-Sock-Art-Teacher Check it out Yall'. All of these poster ideas come from 14 years of teaching! I repeat the same phrases, rules or rhymes to my students and it just didn't seem to stick. Then I just started making illustrations of those things and there I was... with a big WALL OF WISDOM! I just keep adding and adding. Now I'm addicted to making POSTERS! I love lettering and illustrating. I love color and details. I love ART! If you have an idea for a design, something that you have learned or teach your kids, let me know. It may be my next poster! Please visit my Teachers Pay Teachers store where you can get your own posters for your classroom! Yay, you might just find a free one there... https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Lost-Sock-Art-Teacher As an art teacher, there are things that I am continually telling my students. Things like... "You are responsible for your own mess", or "Art requires patience above talent!", "There's no excuse for messiness!", "Don't use a waste a new piece of paper when you can use an eraser!". Instead of repeating myself, I decided years ago to make a "Wall of Wisdom". It is full of ideas to make your art better or my philosophy of a good art attitude. This was my old wall of poster... New wall at new school... I've went Art Elementary in 2014 ;) after 10 years of MIddle School Elementary boys = PAPER AIRPLANES!!! WHat's the deal? And they are not even CREATIVE! Maybe if they drew windows with passengers peeking through... or something, but NO! SO, I have decided to BAN THEM FROM MY ROOM! "Let your Imagination fly... NOT YOUR PAPER!" T. Morgan Kill the dead space! Fill it up with life, learn to turn! Dear art student, I am not impressed by your speed. It's slow and steady that won. Love, Mrs. Morgan Improved version Purchase this Poster here... https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Slow-and-Steady-Wins-the-A-2710822 I have some kids that get super excited when they are the first ones done with their work. Being quick is not always a good thing. Remember the tortoise and the hare? Sometimes that means they did not take the time to be neat or to complete the work. So, slow and STEADY wins the race. Some kids work hard at first, then get tired, then quit doing their best. If you start neat, finished neat. Be consistent with your work. I let kids know on the first day of school, that I do not grade them based on talent. Nobody can pick their talents when they are born. I am sure if they had a choice, all students would choose to be artistically inclined. So, I grade on their "ARTtitude". Do they try, do the fix mistakes, do they improve, do they listen to advice? Or do they give up, give half effort, or turn work in knowing it could be better? It takes blood, sweat, and tears. It's about distance vs. speed. My pet peeve is when kids waste paper! They put one measly mark down and then throw it away! UGHHHHH! I want to just throw erasers at those wasters! So, I made this sarcastic ad for the NEWEST INVENTION... THE ERASER! You don't have to be talented to be neat. It just takes special care and patience. All you have to do is a back and forth motion with your hand while holding a crayon... it's not that hard. So, I do grade hard on kids who are sloppy. It is just them telling me they don't care. It's a bad "art"titiude. In most cases, it is best to color dark. It shows up better, it pops out, and it reveals the true color. At least if you don't color the inside dark, then emphasize it by outlining dark on the outside. Plus, coloring darker is harder and more time consuming, which in the end shows more care. I tell the kids that if the paper is big, draw big. Fill the space up. The picture is more important than the emptiness behind it. Drawing bigger allows the artist to include more detail as well. If you have the room, use it! Otherwise, you are wasting. Patience is a virtue... You have to practice patience while you create art. When my students work hard by showing patience, I like to post their work online. The great educational philosopher Harry Wong said something like this when I saw him speak. I just took what he said and make a poster for it. I let the kids talk while they work. As long as they do this responsibly, But, if they talk more than they work, inhibit others from working because of their talking, or they fail because of their mouth, then they have a problem that needs to be fixed. Art, the most important meal of the day. Shhhhhhh!.... Draw secret, soft & light lines if you're not sure in the beginning stages. If you draw hard, yiu make it harder on yourself to fix. I try to teach kids to avoid putting the too much pressure on their pencils in the beginning stages of drawing. So many times, they mess up, try to erase, but can't get rid of their original drawing lines. Then I make them use the back of the paper. If they already did, then I make them erase the lightest side. I do this to teach them to draw light till they KNOW they have it right. Kids beat, bang, and drop colored pencils. This tears them apart! Then they try to sharpen them and the lead falls out. It is a horrible result of an abused supply. I have this to encourage them to treat the pencils like glass. I keep the markers in a vertical storage tip down. This allows the flow of the ink to travel to the tip. It increases the life of the markers. Some kids do not close the glue. This open hole lets air in and that air hardens the remaining glue under the cap. Then kids think that jabbing a larger hole in a clogged up glue bottle will make it work better. It will temporarily make it work better for them right then, but in the long run, this massive hole they poked just makes the tip get clogged even more from the extra air that gets in it. This is a never ending cycle! Since this annoys me, I made a poster to try to get my point across. I also get tired of kids not cleaning brushes out. Then the paint dries on the brush, hardens the tip and it is never able to be used again. Or, they do clean it, but leave it with the bristles down. Then it dries bent and is permanently bent. My are teacher from High School, Mrs. Liddell, had a poster like this one. I liked it, so I made one for my classroom. "Your mamma doesn't live here, so clean up your own mess". My self made Principles chart... Self made Elements chart... Somplified my charts for elementary ;) I decided to make this motivational poster for my classroom just recently. I did some research behind it and found the history of the original very interesting. So, this is my parody of the We Can Do It poster. ------------ Think positive! Mini Masterpiece wall (Index card art) 4 kids per table, everybody has a purpose. Rules and rewards... Palette of positivity. Each class has a paper palette that colored stickers are added to for noticeable efforts. http://tabithaannthelostsock.blogspot.com/2013/04/we-can-do-itart-classroom-encouragment.html And that is my Art Class. Hope you are more the wiser!

Hello all, it's Natalie! I'm pretty excited to be uploading the first post to Les Trois Pois. So recently all three of us ordered Lilly Pulitzer agendas to help us keep organized in college, and they are so gosh darn cute, who could resist?! I ordered the large in Jellies be Jammin'. (Funny story I accidentally ordered two, oops.) You can order one here. I absolutely adore it. Lauren already knows about my "unique" obsession with jellies, and I love the light blue and pink colors. This is what the first page looks like. I made a return address on Microsoft Word with my name, phone number, and dorm location, just in case I misplace it and some kind soul finds it and decides to deliver it back to me. I used the fonts Modern No. 20 and Cantoni. I don't have a pencil pouch yet so I just stored my pens here temporarily. If you were curious, I got the pens at my local target for about $10. You can get them online here. They're made by Yoobi, which is a company that for every item you buy they donate one to a classroom in the USA. So not only do I have some cool gel pens, but so does some lucky grade schooler. Excuse my bad hand writing, I have been out of school for a while and my penmanship has decreased drastically. However, this is what the pens ink looks like. The light yellow orange, yellow, and yellow green are a bit illegible so I will probably use those as accents colors.Otherwise, I really like the variety of colors! I'm obsessed with color coding, I don't have my schedule for next year yet, but I will probably have a color for each class, a color for sorority events (If I rush), and a color for special events. I'll give you guys a better update of my system once school starts. This is the other side of the first page. As you can see it has a handy little built in folder. I store the stickers came with the agenda and my Disney pass calender in here for safe keeping. I took out some of the pages included in the agenda because I couldn't see them ever being useful to me. So there's supposed to be a page in between the two pages shown here, but eh. I prefer it looking like this. The next pages include a 2014-2016 calender. Which is useful if you ever need to look up a date really quickly. I highlighted my birthday for some reason. After the annual calender there was all the monthly calenders, however, there's also monthly calenders before all the weekly calenders later on in the agenda. I decided there was no use for them for me, so I carefully removed them and glued the left August 2014 page to the right December 2015 one, and ta-da! no more useless pages. See! Two monthly calendars in the same agenda, why? Lauren had the fantastic idea of using the pages I took out as a desk calender. I wont be able to use August 2014 or December 2015, but I don't start school until late September, and I will hopefully be ordering another agenda next July. I decided to pint out picture of the friends and family and put it on their birthdays. I used Microsoft Word again, and resized the picture to approximately 1.5" X 1.25" and recolored them using the "color" function in the "picture tools" tab. I used the Modern No. 20 font again to put what age they are turning in the right hand corner. I created my own "color theme" under the "design" tab to get colors that would coordinate with the monthly themes. I don't know if you noticed my little bookmark (agenda mark?), but it was super easy to make. I used a paperclip I had on my desk and some satin ribbon I had laying around. I tied the bow around the paperclip and ta-da! perfectl little place keeper. Lastly, I was looking through handouts and magazines my college had given me through the decision process and I found this perfectly sized campus map and directory! I cut them out and glued them in the last two pages of my agenda for easy access because I know I will be that lost little freshman next year and it will definitely help me out. I hope you all enjoyed this post! If you have any questions leave a comment and I will try to get back to you. Thanks. xoxo, Natalie

I went into school yesterday with a specific lists of things to accomplish. I'll be honest...I didn't really want to do them...so of course I got distracted & started doing other things. It ended up being really productive though. I went through a lot of old materials that I'd been given my first year of teaching and sorted through what I really needed. In the process of doing so, I discovered this... Eeeeeekkkk!!!! You guys, that is a bug INSIDE one of my page protectors!!! You KNOW it's time to throw it out when it has a bug inside it. I ended up getting rid of about 5 binders worth of stuff. My shelves can breathe again! Haha! Getting rid of all that stuff meant that I had a LOT of empty page protectors to store (I was a little obsessed with putting everything in page protectors my 1st year...). Those little buggers (no pun intended) are slippery, and I wanted a way to keep them all together. Maybe I'm the last to figure this out, but here's what I did: I put a metal ring through the top holes to keep them all together! You could probably put in more than one ring, but I didn't want it to be too hard to remove one when I need to. So there you go....if you used to be as obsessed with page protectors as I was still am, just put a metal ring through them to keep them nice & tidy!! As a thank you for still reading & not immediately closing out your browser after looking at that bug, here's a little homework freebie for reading & writing numbers to 120....head on over to my TPT store to grab it! - Katy

I can't reveal my fabulous office and leave you hanging, can I? There is so much in the office to show you that I purposely had to have a separate post on JUST the organizing! So, last week I revealed the whole office in all its glory! Now, up close, I'll show you how I keep my desk and everything else organized in there. My desk is very important and must do a lot. When I got ready to paint it - the beast - I decided I was getting rid of anything that wasn't necessary. That meant that my hubby's stuff in the desk was going to need a new home, too! I'm going to start with the middle drawer. I've used small ramekins to hold my pretty paper clips and small binder clips and other small but important things. I have my pocket digital camera and it's components in a box lid and then my other baskets holding necessary cards in one and my picture hanging strips in the other - which, by the way are AMAZING and I used them exclusively for hanging everything in this new office. The drawers on the top left are organized simply - the top, with basic office needs {stapler, scissors, hole punch, tape, etc.} simply lay in there neatly. The drawer under, I have a drawer divider that I used to divide up my "bill paying" drawer, which holds my checkbooks and deposit envelopes {and a cute owl wallet for use here and there}. My file drawers are the two least exciting drawers. But, I fit a small filing cabinet FULL of files into my two bottom drawers. I got rid of all kinds of stuff so that I could get rid of the cabinet and keep it all in the desk. The best part: I now file much better because it's right next to me. I hate filing, so I need as few excuses as I can get! My right drawers hold my label holder and some more binder clips - the other one holds all my stationary for writing cards and such, using an acrylic hair accessories organizer. On the top of the desk is the large hutch. I use the back of the door {of course} by putting cup hooks on them and using a binder clip to clip things. I have one door that holds invitations to things I don't want to forget and the other door holds my daughter's "art of the day" {yes, she LOVES to draw constantly and give to Mom}. By the way, she knows that she has to take down the old stuff and get rid of it so we don't get overloaded with too much. So, next we move on to the middle of the hutch. I got these beautiful office storage boxes in turquoise to add a pop of color while organizing all my camera equipment discreetly. I need to get at this stuff frequently and hide it in here, or I can throw it into my camera bag easily. On top of my hutch, I have cardboard magazine files that I've covered with the same fabric I used on the magnetic bulletin board. Then, I asked seejanework.com to send me some of their pretty organizing goodies for my office and they sent me these fantastic clip-on label holders - which you can use for these magazine holders and for binders, too. Other areas around my desk that I organize are some magnetic clips from See Jane Work, a pretty "ocean" basic binder also from SJW that I'm using for a family binder, vintage wire wall pockets from SJW filled with garden delight file folders they sent, also. I finally got this cord wrap to keep my cords neat, too. The last area I have organized is the printer stand. You may remember that I mentioned that we had to make this from two pre-fab bookshelves screwed together. My list of needs for this room, was to have a place to fit my printer, shredder, receipt scanner AND my laptop and camera bags. Well, I did it with this printer stand! The handbag storage bin I got is large enough to fit these two bags. Whew! That's pretty much IT for all the organization! I hope you enjoyed it and got some great tips or ideas for organizing your office or drawers! Like what you see here? Consider becoming a follower or subscribe via email! Get organized and set-up your classroom! Tons of back to school tips to organize teaching materials, student work, books, math supplies, and more. You won't want to miss the FREE student labels!
I have mentioned this before, but I LOVE color coding! Every subject has its own color and I have an annoyingly colorful system for every part ;) I started this system years ago and it helps the visual part of me stay calm and collected, especially after school has been in session for a few months and the piles start to overtake me! Here are my colors: green= writing blue= reading yellow= math red= social studies & science orange= spelling & language study purple= extra topics & misc. (holidays, back to school, conferences, etc.) Material Organizers If you decide to start color-coding, one of the most important items I purchased was this organizer from Lakeshore (Really Good Stuff has similar ones, too): I have had mine for years and it's a lifesaver!! I organize by subjects and this set comes with plastic fike folders, but I also stock up on additional paper ones as well: It's nice keeping upcoming activities and resources in these bins. The file folders make them easy to organize and to grab quickly for copying. The bins are nice and large, too, so they hold books and other materials easily. Another great resource I picked up was this bin for my copies for the week: It's marketed as a place for kids to turn in their work, but I found it hard for my kids to keep their piles neat the year I used it like that, so I assumed control and used it for me :) I *try* to make all of my copies at the beginning of the week and I will leave the stacks in these bins so they are easy to spot and pass out quickly. I tend to make piles- lots & lots of piles- so this rack allows my piles to look nice and neat (and completely deceive those around me into thinking I am tidy)! Yay! Now that you have places to keep your materials in their color-coded loveliness, I want to share some additional ways to take this system to an even crazier more useful level ;) Making Copies I color code my copies.... yes, it's that bad.... but, maybe not as bad as you're thinking. I only color-code super-duper important papers, like tests, quizzes, and reference sheets to keep in folders. Everyday copies are always made in white :) I started this a few years ago and love it- it serves three purposes: it reminds the kids that this paper is important it makes it easier for me to find/remember to grade/locate if it becomes "lost" in their desk or folders it alerts the parents that this is an important paper (like a test or quiz) when it gets sent home in their folders at the end of the week What's great is that when I make weekly copies, it's very easy to split them up into the storage rack by color :) By the way- I use pink paper for Science and Social Studies. Student Folders & Notebooks I extend this system to my students' folders and notebooks. This makes life so.so.so much easier!! I simply say "Grab your Math Folder" and suddenly everything is yellow :) This has alleviated so many problems of assignments going into the wrong folder (and getting lost forever!) or notes being taken in the wrong notebook. I can quickly scan the room and see that everyone is in the correct folder or notebook. Aaaaah, the ease of it all puts me in Teacher Heaven! How do I accomplish this? In the past, it was a lot of "musical notebooks and folders"- kids were required to bring in folders and notebooks of various colors and I could often piecemeal it all together to work. I have also made labels with colors from my system, and that helped. This year, though, our school is collecting school supply money from parents and we order the supplies we need-Yahoo! This has saved me SO MUCH TIME and energy!! I am thrilled! But, to be fair, this is not the case everywhere and I was able to use this system for many years using student-bought supplies and it worked perfectly :) Do you color code for different subjects? I would love to hear the many ways you do- I love adding to my repertoire :)
