Fascinated by historical methods of ceramic story telling she combines her hand-built pieces with naive, lighthearted contemporary illustrations, passionate that ceramic narrative plays a vital role in the observance and documentation of current society and culture. Her inspiration comes from literature, medieval art, folk art and tales, slow living and wellbeing. This is translated through fun, characterful imagery, line work and print techniques learnt in her BAHons Illustration degree. Celia’s aim is that her audience feels a sense of joy and hope when they see and buy her work. She works in earthenware and terracotta, for a low firing temperature that keeps colours vibrant. She experiments often with coloured slips and traditional methods of sgraffito and slip trailing creating texture and imperfections in the work that create uniqueness and individuality. It is rare that she makes the same piece twice.
The name of the Whimsical White Sculpture says it all! We were immediately drawn to this characterful little portrait, something about the girls moody look endeared her to us. She doesn't look best pleased about having to sit for the artist, she probably would prefer to be out playing with her friends. This wonderful watercolour on paper was painted in England Circa 1840. The watercolour is on paper and features a full length portrait of a young girl. The girl can be seen wearing a white dress with a blue ribbon detailing. We love how the artist has painted the curls in her hair! The painting is housed behind glass old glass in its original moulded composition frame with rococo style detailing. This is a fabulous portrait painting in a decorative frame with a great naive/folk art look. Measuring: Frame width 8 ½ inch (22 cm) by height 10 ½ inch (26.5 cm). Aperture width 6 inch (15 cm) by height 7 7/8 inch (20 cm). Condition: Age darkening to the paper, and fading to the watercolor, particularly seen to her dress. . These naive folk style decorations are printed on thick 600gsm paper and are printed on both sides. There are 18 decorations on two sheets and they can be pushed out of the flat packed card sheet and then threaded with the string or twine of your choice and either hung individually or in a garland. The decorations are printed in two slightly different tones on each side - one is an orangey red and the other is more pink.
