Missouri River sewing pattern number 4799-500-022 Southern Plains Tab Leggings Size (Height/Thigh Size): 5'0" - 5'9" average, 5'10" average and >5'10" average Pattern condition: Uncut, factory folded and complete with instructions. ~ Item for sale is a sewing pattern, not a finished garment ~ This style of men's Tab Leggings has its beginnings among the Eastern Woodlands and Great Lakes tribes, but, as they migrated onto the edges of the Plains, their new neighbors acquired many of their garment and decoration styles. From the resulting intertribal contacts, we find that, by the reservation period of the late 1800s, Comanche and Kiowa men were wearing their own versions of Tab Leggings, made from buckskin and incorporating hand twisted leather fringes. This style remains popular today with men of these tribes, as well as Straight Dancers wishing to dress in the Southern Plains fashion. The instructions provide basic construction information, details on how to prepare the fringe, and examples of various ways the leggings can be decorated.
This booklet is part of a march larger series of books that I am creating. This specific pack focuses on the Southwest Native American Tribes. I like using these books with my students because i feel that it opens up the learning. These books have headed pages, but the learning is open to the teacher or the students. You can use them is a few different ways. I have used them to fill in as we learn about the tribes. The students fill in information throughout the unit we are studying, The other way I have used them is having the students work on a small research project. We do a one day large opening lesson to discuss native american tribes in general, then i introduce the research project where I give students one of the tribes and they must fill in the books to finish their research project. There are many other ways to use these books if you would like. These booklets have students focus on the following topics for each tribe: clothing climate food location transportation fun facts their home Reflection
In the 1600s French Priests barely were able to get to know this tribe that lived along the shores of Lake Erie. By 1660 the tribe was totally wiped out and not by the white man.
Since these Indians lived in the forests, they were called Woodlands Indians. Their food, shelter, clothing, weapons and tools came from the forests that surrounded them. The Woodlands Indians lived in wigwams and longhouses. The Iroquois, Cherokee and Mound builders were important tribes in these areas. Sole height: 3.5 cm.
