What is all included in this bundle? This resources covers Genetics including: Mendelian Genetics Dominant & Recessive Traits Alleles Homozygous & Heterozygous Punnett Squares Non-Mendelian Genetics Incomplete Dominance Co-Dominance Polygenic Inheritance Sex-Linked Inheritance Blood Typing Pedigrees Genetics, Non-Mendelian Genetics & Pedigree Digital Interactive Review Activities (3 pages) Genetics Practice Problems Non-Mendelian Practice Problems (2 pages) Pedigree Practice Problems Teacher Answer Key DESCRIPTION: This resource contains all of the Biology Essential One-Page Reviews, Paper-based and digital activities that you can use with your students, and a teacher answer key. The topics within this resource are all the topics covered in a typical High School Biology classroom in color format. Each page contains the critical information that students must know for each topic. I often tell my students, "If you are going to remember anything from this unit, these are the things to remember!" This resource can also be modified to be used at the Middle School Level. This resource is a great tool to use with your ESOL students, ESE students, students with accommodations, or just any student who may be struggling with the content in class or struggling with what to study for your assessments. One Pagers: I have used this resource as doodle notes in my classroom, to allow students to jot down information as I go over critical content, and to be used in small group instruction. Many of my students prefer to use this to "cram" for assessments. I often find my students pulling out this document before the test begins or outside their testing room for state assessments to try to absorb that last bit of information before the test. Digital Learning Activities: Within this document is a link to a Google Drive folder with the interactive assignments. You can assign these to your students for introductory activities, review, etc. There are a variety of interactive assignments within this resource such as drag and drop activities, labeling activities, and practice assessment questions. Imagine if the Greek gods and goddesses had iPods or a way to listen to all of the songs they love! This is a fun and creative way to mix the past in with the present and pretend this is the case while sharing facts students have learned or researched. There are twelve Greek gods and goddesses included. You may choose to do this in Google Slide format (color slides where students type in the names of the songs and artists) or in the print format on paper (black and white copies that allow students to write/color). This would work well in social studies or even in reading/ELA while learning about mythology! Each song and band/performer name on the iPod must reflect facts learned about the historical figure. Students should be creative with the song names and musical artists! You can show them both pages of the example for the iPod that belongs to Zeus, the king of Greek gods. As they will see from the example pages, each song title and artist helps us to learn various facts about Zeus. Imagine if the playlist of Zeus included songs like "Lightning Strikes" by the Thunderbolts or "Take Down the Titans" by Revolt. Students will have a lot of fun coming up with names and bands/artists that reflect the god or goddess. The gods and goddesses included are: Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Hera, Hermes, Hestia and Hephaestus. You may want to have students choose which gods/goddesses to complete or you might assign them to the students. In addition, you could have students complete one page or even more depending on how much time you wish to spend. This could be an independent activity, but it could easily work as a partner or small group activity as well. These would make a creative and fun bulletin board or hallway display when finished. It is also fun to allow an opportunity for students to view classmates’ finished iPods as well. They could even vote for their favorite song titles and artists! For a real challenge, would there be any students who might want to write some of the lyrics to one of their songs? There are so many ways to use this in your classroom. I hope your students will have fun with it! You might also like this resource which would be great to do prior to the music activity: Meet Ancient Greek Gods & Goddesses (Google Slides Activity) You can also check out my other resources for Greek gods and goddesses HERE.

This is what I do as part of my inferencing unit in high school because it teaches them the different between explicit information versus IMPLICIT information - which is where they need to use their inferencing skills. There's a little exercise where they look at an explicit phrase, and have to de-code what they think the implicit meaning behind it is. Their responses are always funny :) It's a helpful worksheet that really gets them to understand SUBTEXT - the hidden meaning behind words. For example - if someone says "Are you busy tonight?" the IMPLICIT meaning might be "if you're not busy. I want to hang out with you" TIP - I've also used this right before studying a novel / also in drama class to teach them to read between the lines. It's a worksheet from the packet for finding compound words. I hope you can use it. And here's another little worksheet we are doing this week. We are working on vowel teams -oa, & ow saying the long o sound. Oh my goodness, I just checked my stats and I am almost to 100 followers! Yeppie! My favorite part about getting ready for back to school is getting all of the bulletin boards set up around my classroom. Here are some of my favorite ideas.
Part of my literacy class involves teaching them the life-long skills of SKIMMING and SCANNING. This handout covers both of these types of reading strategies. It describes what skimming and scanning are, and what the difference between them is. It has a word-bank fill-in-the-blank style questions, and some helpful tips. Also the second page includes a worksheet that ALSO introduces the very important idea of "reading for detail", with true/false examples and multiple choice examples. An answer key is included to help make your life easier. TIP - I get them to look at a menu as the "hook" -I'll bring it up on the whiteboard and ask them to tell me what they want to order within the next 2 minutes. They naturally skim and scan to find their answer :) Then I give this handout and they really get it. ALSO IN MY SHOP! Another worksheet that focuses on skimming through an article about good teachers: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/English-Reading-Skills-Skim-2961049

You’ll be kicked out of college! You’ll never be able to have a well-defended argument! It's just dishonest! Each of my writing units begins with sharp warnings about plagiarism. Plagiarism is such an important topic--especially in high school as we prepare students for college. It is crucial that
Do you know what cognates are? Do you use them in your classroom? If you have ELLs in your classroom (even if you're not a bilingual teacher) you should be using them!! Or maybe you are a Dual Language teacher and have students learning Spanish? Use cognates!! For some strange reason my students adore that little word and we talk about it EVERY SINGLE DAY in our classroom. If you were to come into my classroom and ask one of my students what cognates are, they would simply say: words that sound about the same in English or Spanish and share a similar meaning. That's it! Pretty easy to understand...right? Let's see some examples from the Cognates Wall in my classroom: Some cognates are spelled the same in English and Spanish, some others aren't and that's ok. Like I tell my kids: as long as they sound close to another word and they remind you of a word in Spanish. Why should I use cognates in my classroom? Cognates are a super powerful strategy to use with ELLs. They are able to make a connection between the two languages and build their comprehension. Every time we are getting ready to read a new text, I immediately ask my students to look for cognates and underline them. Other times, while my students and I are talking, a cognate will come up. I usually say very quickly and excited: THAT'S A COGNATE!! Eventually, the kids start telling me when they find one and it becomes an exciting little game! WATCH OUT FOR FALSE COGNATES!! Unfortunately there are some words that appear to be cognates but they aren't. Remember that cognates have a similar sound and definition. Some words sound the same in English and Spanish but they DO NOT share the same definition. For example: the word embarrassed is usually misused by bilingual students because it sounds similar to "embarazada" in Spanish which means pregnant! We certainly don't want our kids misusing that word lol! The word carpet in English is similar to "carpeta" in Spanish. However, "carpeta" means folder. If you are going to teach cognates to your kids, you gotta watch out for these tricky words. Remember, when in doubt, just Google it! If you tell your students about false cognates they will be aware and understand not all words are cognates! And let me tell you... they will LOVE to find those false cognates. Here is a link to my favorite list of cognates. (By the way Colorin Colorado is an amazing website with very helpful articles on teaching ELLs). I use this list every day! Remember to talk to your students about false cognates, they will learn to recognize them faster than you think!

I am a teacher and I tutor 1:1 virtually in the evenings. I have two students who struggle so much with reading and it is because they struggle with the vowel digraphs. My students LOVE this because by the third time through the passage we are working on, they are reading so fluently. In addition, they are starting to learn the high-grequency words that use these digraphs so the information is transferring! I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone with students struggling with consonant blends and/or vowel digraphs. Worth every single penny! Thank you for such an awesome resource. -Jennifer C. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love, love, love. Included in this download is a 4 page guided reading passage over the different aspects of genetics including dominant and recessive traits, phenotype and genotype, and homozygous traits and heterozygous traits. It also introduces where DNA is in the cell and how it forms chromosomes to fit inside of the nucleus. At the end of the passage is a two page set of questions about the reading and practice of how to identify the different traits they read about. To use, print out the handouts and you can either have students read the passage independently, in pairs, or in larger groups. Questions are given off to the side so that students are sticking to the main ideas of the paragraphs. At the end of passage is where we get into the nitty gritty of the parts of cells where students really have to study and read the passage to understand the vocabulary and to answer the questions. There is practice on identifying homozygous and heterozygous, phenotype and genotype, and analysis of a Punnet Square. This is primarily used to supplement in class notes, but could be used for a sub plan or additional work for students not in class.
