Katie Robert's adaption on bagel ships Cucumber Appetizer This recipe originally came from my friend Sue Ziegler. She will note some minor changes but it is always a crowd pleaser. Especially a good recipe for showers, teas, etc. The photo was provided by Katie Roberts with her personal touch. She used bagel chips!! 1 cucumber (peel and slice into rounds) 8 oz. cream cheese 1 cup of mayo 1 pkg dry Italian salad dressing (like Good Seasons) 8 oz. sour cream cocktail bread (the cute little loaves) also has been made with bagel bites and bread cut with cookie cutters dried dill weed Combine cream cheese, mayo, and sour cream. Stir in the dry salad dressing a little at a time until it reaches your desired taste level. Spread this creamy mix on the bread, top with a cucumber round and sprinkle with dill weed. Note this recipe makes a lot of creamy spread. You may want to have extra ingredients on hand to make more if you are expecting a crowd or use the remainder as a dip. (Two appetizers in one). Christmas Brunch on mini pumpernickel bread

The cover of the 1934 edition of the official guide to the City (and indeed Royal Burgh) of Dundee that had, since 1913, included within its boundaries the suburban resort of Broughty Ferry - described here with I think a little enthusiasm as the "Brighton of the North"! That isn't to say it's not a pleasant spot (known to me during my years north of the Border as Draughty Ferry) but I doubt it stands much comparison with the sinful fleshpots of that Sussex seaside coastal resort! The guide, published by the local company of Simmath Press, makes much of the residential charms of Scotland's third city along with a lot of industrial advantages. It makes no bones about the fact that, particularly int he depression years of the early '30s, the city's once staple industries (jam and jute out of the three that included journalism) had suffered and the guide was certainly out to sell the city as home to newer, light industries and indeed, the estates alongside the new Kingsway radial road did become home to some of the emergent industries as as electrical concerns.

I shot this a couple of year ago and immediately converted it to sepia to try giving it a 'timeless' look/feel. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_Cathedral IN MY LIVERPOOL HOME (Written by the late Pete McGovern) I was born in Liverpool, down by the docks, My religion was Catholic; occupation - hard knocks. At stealing from lorries, I was adept, and underneath overcoats each night I slept. CHORUS: "In my Liverpool home, in my Liverpool Home, We speak with an accent exceedingly rare; we meet under a statue exceedingly bare. If you want a cathedral, we've got one to spare, in my Liverpool home." Back in the Forties the world it went mad, and Hitler threw at us all that he had. When the smoke and the dust had all cleared from the air, "Thank God," said my old man," the Pier Head's still there." I took a walk along Lime Street one day, I saw a "Young lady" a-heading my way; "Have you got the right time, love", says I to the lass, She said, "I've got the time, Jack, if you've got the brass." When I grew up, I met Bridget Mc Cann; she said, "You're not much, but I'm needing a man; I want sixteen kids, and a house out in Speke; well, the flesh it was willing, but the spirit was weak. Walton Gaol is the place for a quiet week-end. Climb over the wall, and you'll meet all your friends. You can sit and watch telly, drink whisky and beer and chalk on the walls; "Kilroy was here". We've got wide open spaces like the Wavertree Park, where it's unsafe by daylight and more so by dark We've got places of culture like Dingle and Speke, where they play "tick" with hatchets, and fight with their feet. We've got romantic places like the Cast-Iron Shore, where you can find someone else's back door, We had John, we had George, Ringo and Paul, the Liverpool Spinners, and the St George's Hall. Way out in Kirkby, the kids they wear clogs, there's eight million kids and ten million dogs. They play "tick" with hatchets, I tell you no lie, and they call you a "cissy" if you've more than one eye. When my last whistle blows & the "Ref Up There" says; "You've supped your last Guinness, lad, it's the end of your days," Take my ashes to Old Trafford and spread them around, and they won't win a match while I'm haunting the ground. (NOTE : ** Not all verses were written at the same time and not all performers sing all verses. I'm sure everyone gets the gist though **)
