We all know how important reading strategies are to becoming successful readers. My students struggle with many of the strategies. We would focus on one each week, and by the 3rd week, they couldn't remember the first strategy. I created this poster to post in the classroom as a reminder of the strategies. Now, this is not a "post it and ignore it" type of thing. I used it as I taught each strategy and I would refer back to it daily, until it became ingrained in their heads! I printed the poster on a small vistaprint banner. The printing came out fabulous and the vinyl of the banner means it will last for years to come! This could very easily be printed onto a bookmark for students to keep at their desks. Enjoy!

Hi, my name's Christie. This is how I feel. {I obviously have more hair, and no facial hair, but point taken} I really can only dream of a day when I am a tenured teacher and do not have to remove my things from my classroom and start fresh. It's so overwhelming to stand in a classroom full of stuff. Plus the fact that I may have a slight tendency to resemble one of my students who has attention issues. I finish only parts of things I'm working on then I need to move to other things. I go back and forth leaving all sorts of projects lying around the floor. I have wanted to take pictures for 3 days now, but by the time they're kicking us out for the day I'm so exhausted I can't wait to run to the nearest exit to sit in my car and enjoy... sitting... just that. On top of that, the mister's son is staying with us for the weekend, so I've been trying to enjoy some time here and there with them. I actually took a break today to eat some Olive Garden {insert angels singing here}. I'm so jealous, they went to Bear's training camp today. All kinds of sad and jealous about that one. I found out today, I tentatively have... wait for it... 24 students. That in itself is the miracle of the day. I could also only dream of the day when I would have less than 30 students. I'm hoping it stays that way, but the ink won't be touching those name tags until next Wednesday morning (which by the way, I think I should start practicing my cursive now, cuz... well... it's a extremely little rusty. I am hoping my FABULOUS aunt finishes my amazing seat sacks. We bought the fabric, but I'm not quite sure how they're going to come out. We shall see! Hopefully they're all kinds of ugh-mazing!! :) To all of you out there in Bloggy Land, especially anyone who has purchased or downloaded anything from me, I so appreciate your patience. A few short weeks ago, my turn around time I custom orders was maybe hours, now it's turned into days. For the most part everyone has been super understanding... I appreciate it tons and tons and tons!! Hopefully I'll have some time closer to this weekend to sit down and fill most of my current orders! :) I have been looking for a few things lately, so I sat down to create some things for myself. I posted a few in my Teacher's Notebook, and I have a few for you!! I also am still working on what I want my giveaway to be... it may be Friday before I figure it out for sure though. Here are some things for your enjoyment!! Bases Loaded @Teacher's Notebook {game to practice adding inflectional endings and making new words} How We Go Home! @Teacher's Notebook {makes it easier for the teacher to know who goes where} Before, During, & After Foldable @Google Docs {printable for readers to keep with them while they read} 3rd Grade Word Wall Words @GoogleDocs {includes sight, math, science, & social studies words!} Student Planner @Teacher's Notebook {easy for students to fill out, zebra themed} Match Fact Practice Sheet @Google Docs {perfect for students and you to monitor how much they practice their facts} Also I must mention I've had tons of requests for things that match the chocolate dots theme, so there are lots of items popping up that match that theme. I've had quite a few questions regarding pocket chart cards for Daily 5. They are posted in the store in 2 forms, a set of just them, and a set that goes with posters that explain what you can do at each activity. As a side note... I have decided against using these: I have thought about posting them on Teacher's Notebook, but I'm not sure anyone would want them. If anyone has any interest whatsoever let me know. They are extremely sturdy, made with 2 kinds of cardstock, and the letters are VERY thick chipboard. They are not laminating because of the chipboard. I can take more pictures of them close up or from the side if you are interested! Those letters were crazy expensive to just waste them! I've had a few people e-mailing me with ideas for things they have not been able to find out there in teacher land. If there's everything something like this you're looking for, let me know! I'm sure I've thought about making it, or I have it somewhere in my files!! I think it's time for bed for me. I'm stressed and very excited to get back into my room tomorrow. I promise I'll get to pictures and to the giveaway!! Any ideas of things you would want in a giveaway? - aside from a million dollars ;-)

Hurray! You're here. Let me help you with fun resources for your primary students to keep them excited about learning!
Hi! Sweet Friends, it's Peggy from Primary Flourish. I hope you are having a refreshing summer! I want to share with you a fun, and better yet, effective way to get your little writers to slow down enough to edit their own writing! Just call the COPS! I just love acronyms! They really help anchor concepts in the students' (and teacher's :)) minds! As you can see in the posters, each letter in COPS reminds students important details they need to check for in their writing. This pack includes all you need to teach your students to do their own editing! Use these 4 Posters with kid-friendly 'I Can Statements' to introduce COPS to your students, then leave them up in your classroom for easy reference through out the year. Students love flip books, oh my! This is a fun, interactive way to cement the editing concepts in their minds. I have included this printable for students to practice 'Patrolling with the COPS'. A blank copy is also included, so you can make up your own sentence for your students. I like to use this as a task in their morning work. Notice the COPS boxes to the left of each sentence - that is for students to put tally marks (or numbers) of how many of those edits needed to be made in that sentence. This helps them s.l.o.w. down and actually reflect on their writing. Now, we know there will be some little 'speeders' that rush though their writing without 'patrolling their writing! That's when they get a ticket! Just put a check under the area that need editing and attach it to the writing that needs editing. The student then needs to look back to find and correct their own writing. You can get 'Edit Writing with COPS' for just a DOLLAR for the next three days! If the titles of my blog posts are any indication of how well I can focus on one specific task- that doesn't look very good. I never can focus on one thing in these blog posts- hence the extremely long and random combinations in my titles :) My kiddos were WIRED this week! They definitely have spring fever. My. goodness. It probably didn't help that it was Dr. Seuss day on Monday and we had a spirit week the rest of the days. Something about Wacky Wednesday doesn't exactly scream "concentration." :) Don't get me wrong- I love spirit week because I can wear jeans or comfy clothes. Plus the kiddos deserved some fun distractions. BUT. It was a complete battle between spirit/fun and testing/instruction all week. I finally had a "come to jesus" talk with the class on Friday. I actually think it helped. Last year, if I had a talk like that with my firsties, I wasn't always sure it got through, but with third graders this year, it was actually a mutual discussion. We'll see, that might just be my Saturday-induced optimism talking.... :) Speaking of spring fever, I just finished my newest "Spring Fling" and "Happy Snails" clipart sets and posted them to my store! I have used a lot of pastel colors in my spring sets, but I made a new color scheme for these sets (and some other spring sets I plan on making) because I needed some extra energizing sets after this week! Check out these little splashes of spring color.... If you want to check out these sets in my store, you can click on the links below. Happy Snails: $2.00 Spring Fling: $4.00 Onto the other part of my random blog title......If there was one word that would be tattooed across my forehead lately, it would be "EVIDENCE." If I had a dollar for every time I said that word ("Where's your evidence?" "Find evidence to support your claim" "Support your answers with evidence" "Find the evidence in the text" "Do you have evidence for that?" ETC), I could retire. Surprisingly, it doesn't bother my kiddos at all and they FEED off of showing evidence. For this reason, the most precious half piece of paper in my classroom is this little beauty: I made up my own version of a "Showing Evidence" reference sheet because I needed it to include a few more evidence stems than the ones I was finding on TpT or pinterest. In our reading lessons, we are focusing on the kiddos using text AND visual cues, so I wanted some stems specific to each. Also, we have discussed how to talk about poetry, so I wanted one in there with "stanza." My students have been using these little reference strips in pretty much every subject! They even started pulling them out in math and changing some of the wording around to work with their conclusions based on graphs, charts and word problems. God bless them and their evidence-eager hearts! One of my kids suggested that I laminate them for each student so they can "take it to fourth grade with them." I told him that I would make a special "Showing Evidence in Fourth Grade" strip....printed in COLOR....and laminated for everyone in the class if they found evidence to answer every reading comp question on the DCAS (state test). I hope I will be needing to buy lots of color ink soon! If you think your kiddos could use these same strips, you can snatch them up below from google docs. I just print them out and cut them down the middle. And, per my student's suggestion, you could laminate them so they last forever and ever :) {Snatch it HERE} Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead before bed tonight. Nothing like LOSING and hour of sleep- but at least it is more EVIDENCE that spring is on it's way......sorry I couldn't resist :)
