This project is super fun and a great way to upcycle plastic! I majored in glass sculpture in college, so I was excited to do this project with my students and really loved teaching about Chihulys work. The 57-page PowerPoint included in this bundle explores a variety of Dale Chihulys glass sculptures with multiple videos included that show his process. There is a worksheet for student to take vocabulary notes on and reflect on Chihuly's work as the PowerPoint presentation is shared. Those terms include: Assemblage Armature Sculpture in the round Abstract art Non objective art Step by step teacher directions are also included with progression photos of the project. Enjoy and happy art making!!

Raspberry Preserves | Bonne Maman | Jam | Original Block Print | Hand Carved | Hand Printed ———————————— • This is an original print hand carved and hand printed onto heavy weight paper. • The size is approximately 4x4” • Due to each print being original and handprinted, your order may vary slightly from the exact image pictured. ———————————— Block carving is a very unique and fun way to create art, but there are multiple steps in the process! It starts with drawing your design and then transferring your design to the linoleum or rubber. Then you begin carving out your design with special carving tools. Once the carving is complete, you ink your design and then finally press it onto the appropriate sized and textured paper. Finally, your print is ready to be viewed and enjoyed! Due to the process, each print is always original and unique which I think adds to the special quality of block. I hope you enjoy your little print as much as I enjoyed creating it! Tamiko Kawata was trained in sculpture at Tokyo University. She grew up in Japan, in the wake of World War II, and immigrated to New York in 1962. Her approach is informed by modernist ideas of Dada and Assemblage. Experimental in nature, Kawata explores the physicality of humble materials via multiplicity and unexpected juxtapositions. She creates category-defying works that range from collage and sculpture to major site-specific installations. The safety pin is her signature building block, but she also incorporates other everyday, utilitarian objects in her work with similar effect. Kawata has exhibited extensively, both in the United States and internationally. Her work is held in numerous public collections and she is the recipient of multiple awards and residencies from institutions such as such as the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Pollock/Krasner Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, MacDowell Colony Residency, Yaddo Art Colony, and The Millay Colony for the Arts. We're enamored with this horse sculpture, a majestic yet charming presence on a bookcase, mantel or sideboard. Reactive green glaze coats the ceramic equine, with exposed earthenware shaping the mane, tail and hooves. Each one will be fascinatingly unique based on where it was placed in the kiln while fired. Our small horse sculpture looks regal on its own or displayed in multiples with its larger counterpart in a delightful herd.
