Geum chiloense 'Mrs Bradshaw', in het nederlands ook nagelkruid genoemd, is een kortlevende groenblijvende vaste plant met een compact opgaande polvormende habitus. De bladeren zijn donkergroen, getand en gelobd, de plant bloeit van mei tot augustus met middelgrote halfgevulde scharlakenrode bloemen. Geum chiloense houdt van een standplaats in volle zon of halfschaduw en doet het goed in iedere vruchtbare, goed doorlaatbare grond, eens gevestigd is deze plant redelijk droogte tolerant. Nagelkruid is goed winterhard, ziekteresistent en heeft weinig last van ongedierte. Deze plant lokt vlinders en bijen en wordt vaak toegepast in de rotstuin of alpiene tuin. Het is tevens een goede snijbloem.

Here's a lesson I have posted about many times, and I think I have found the best presentation so far - so new post! Here goes - first I'll share a few pics from earlier... We have made these clay pinch pots with cacti and succulent plants for several years in 4th grade: And since starting our Artsonia portfolios, we needed a better presentation method, so we tried some different ways of photographing our 3-D works, starting with variegated tissue paper which looked a little like a sunset sky: Since the students were also learning about what these plants are and where they come from, we started making some cut paper silhouettes as a backdrop, featuring cactus shapes: So cool! But the silhouettes were kind of temporary, so from there we painted our own colorful skies and made landscapes that could stand as works of art on their own as well as serving as a backdrop for our clay work. We focused on blending analogous colors to keep from getting a muddy sky - it helps to not use water when painting these, because you want blended colors: This is a fantastic lesson because there are so many elements to explore - science, culture, color - and plenty of room for kids to experiment. Alright ... it's March, Indianapolis. Pull it together! This past weekend was b-e-a-utiful! The temperature was perfect for walking the dogs and sitting on the patio. Then it turned dreadful... snow, cold, blech. Now it seems nice again. I'm so ready for SPRING. Not just glimpses of Spring either ... I'm talking the real deal. I've been getting prepared and have even begun a few "springy" activities with my kiddos to get them all geared up! I have some brand spankin' new math centers in my store all ready for you to celebrate Spring. OH, P.s. They are all aligned to the Common Core! This should help you with your planning as you count down the days prepare to go on Spring Break! I introduced some of the centers this week because we've been learning about Spring! Check them out in action. And today was Math Fact Day, so they got to do the Math Fact Color By Numbers.. which they LOVE! Put some pointy crayons in these kids' hands and they will work for hours! :) I thought I would give you a little freebie to try in your room.
