Today I wrapped up week #3 of school! Man oh man - do I miss the summer! Waking up at 5:15am every morning just isn't really my cup of tea.. This year my school had our students rotate through all 8 discovery (specials) classes during the first 8 days of school (normally we see them for a few days at a time). This was so that our students could meet all of their discovery teachers.. and get to see all of our classrooms. Last year I went 1 1/2 months before seeing some of my rotations, so this was a welcomed change! So during the first 8 days of school I introduced myself, went over my classroom rules, some procedures, and assigned seats for 48 separate classes! After all the boring introductory stuff, I also had my 2nd-5th grade students work on a collaborative mural project. This lesson comes from Don at Shine Brite Zamorano! We started by looking at the artist Libs Elliot. I showed students some examples of her work and then we briefly talked about how she was able to simultaneously create a sense of unity and variety in her artwork. After looking at some of her pieces, we landed on a slide which showed the GORGEOUS mural that Don had his students make, then I explained what we were going to do! Students were instructed to create a square patch with construction paper, that would be added to a nearly school-wide collaborative mural project inspired by the work of Libs Elliot. At each of my tables I put a basket filled with 6"x6" squares, large triangles (cut from 6"x6" squares), and 3"x3" squares in a number of different colors (colors were switched out for each rotation). Students were told they needed one large square, one large triangle, and two small squares (which could be cut into smaller triangles) - then the rest was up to them! I used the following schedule for my color rotations: Rotation 1- Scarlet, Magenta, White Rotation 2- Red, Scarlet, Orange (some), White Rotation 3- Orange, Gold, Red (some), White Rotation 4- Gold, Yellow, Light Yellow, Orange (some), White Rotation 5- Light Yellow, Hot Lime, Holiday Green (some), White Rotation 6- Hot Lime, Holiday Green, Turquoise, White Rotation 7- Turquoise, Royal Blue, Sky Blue, White Rotation 8- Royal Blue, Purple, Lilac, White I gotta be honest - the prep work for this one was INTENSE.. but the results are STUNNING! For this project (and really all my other projects), we used Tru-Ray Sulphite Construction Paper. If you haven't used it before - you haven't been living! Their paper comes in super vibrant colors AND it doesn't fade (which means this display will be up for a while)! To hang, I glued down the squares onto sheets of butcher paper, and then used packing tape and command strips to attach it to the wall. Command strips were ESSENTIAL to getting this to stay up!! The other specials teachers and I think that there is some kind of conspiracy going on in which the county is spraying something on our walls to make sure no tape sticks to it. I really think we're on to something!

How much fun have you had visiting lots of Georgia based classrooms and peachy spaces? I'm Meghan from Keeping Up with Mrs. Harris and I am going to let you "Sneak a Peek with a Peach" into my classroom/office area. This is a space that I designed and my husband created (IKEA helped) for my children and myself. It is an after school classroom and Teachers Pay Teachers office for myself. When you walk in my office, you are immediately greeted by a repurposed chandelier that I found at a thrift store. I wanted my office to be very modern, clean and refreshing. The left wall of my office is where everything is stored in cabinets and compartments. I have additional wall lighting and storage as well. My photo tent is usually on the counter tops too. Notice how far apart the two desk areas are? Anyone else have boys? If so, you get it! #boysneedspace #wrestlingintheoffice I take a lot of my Pinterest images using the tent. The additional wall lighting helps brighten up the images. My camera stand holds both my DSLR camera and my iPhone for quick images. The right wall of my office stores almost all of my centers. Since I moved out of my classroom this year and into an office space for next year, most of my materials had to come home. I organize all of my centers in the boxes by subject and skill. As my children are working on specific skills or standards, I can pull a box and give them additional practice to enrich what they are learning in the classroom. My desk space is actually a table and desk combo that really works for me. I love the clean look of the table, but I also needed the standard drawer storage of a desk. I recently added a large TV screen so that I can mirror my laptop screen and have two different desktops running off the same computer. I love it! Here's what my desk looks like with the two screens up and running. The wall art above my printer really inspires me. I used clipboards so that I can change out the inspirational sayings and quotes from time to time. There are a ton of free printables online! I just search, print, and hang. The back wall of my office needs a little help. I plan on ordering more canvas photos and making the entire wall pictures of my family. Right now I have a start of 4 pictures. The table is used for crafting and anything mess that my boys decided to get into while they are working. They paint here and play with sensory sand. The containers are the perfect size for organizing my supplies. Can you tell someone was playing in my markers before I snapped this pic? #kidsruinorganization #cantheynotjustputitback Thanks for checking out my space and I hope you come back and take a look at all the other peachy spaces as well!

With Dot Day coming soon (September 15), I thought I would share another collaborative display that my students and I created a few years ago. For this display I decided to take Dot Day in a different direction and combine it with the amazing new book “I Am Human” by Susan Verde and Peter H. Reynolds. If you haven’t re

I have wanted curtians for a whole year, I even bought the fabric! But I knew curtians would block too much sunlight so next best, stain glass look. What you need: Tissue paper Scissors or paper cutte Electrical tape -1 small roll side note husband said this tape will eventually leave a residue :-( because of the baking by the sun Glue stick Step 1: cut your tissue paper and put a glue line on the window and stick your tissue paper on. This will hold and is easily removable and the window cleans easy with soap and water. Step 2: outline with electrical tape. So far no residue is building but it time!!! Meaning , you know when you pull masking tape off and the your like...where's my goo gone!!! Yeah, I'll probably have to do that
