Third Grade students studied the life and art of Van Gogh. We learned the difference between impressionism and post impressionism. Impressionist artists were very interested in painting outdoor scenes where they could show the effects of light. They are also known for leaving their brush marks showing. Post impressionism came after the impressionist movement. These artists also left their marks visible but instead of representing the natural world they were much more interested in showing their inner emotions. This way of painting was perfect for Van Gogh who is known not only for his great art but also for his emotional problems. In class we discussed his relationship with fellow artist Gauguin and saw how Van Gogh represented his thoughts on himself and his friend in his chair paintings. Students were then challenged to create their own chairs. Each student had to think about what kind of chair would best represent them and how the things in the surrounding space could describe them as well. *check out the website on how van Gogh made his mark under art games and great sites!

Here's Van Gogh's Chair to go with Van Gogh's Sunflower 3D lesson. Again, thanks Anne from Use Your Coloured Pencils for inspiring this idea with her Van Gogh Pop-Up Chair lesson. Each student was given one black paper and 2 white papers. First step we did was place 2 whites evenly in center of black paper, then folded up the bottom of the papers all at the same time. (I think the paper was 5x7" and we folded up 3"?) After that, cut two slits in one white paper on the fold to make pop-up chair seat. Then we drew and colored chair and background on first white paper, then drew and colored floor and wall on white paper with slits cut for chair. Then we drew floor and wall on 2nd white paper in area that shows through the back, when white papers are placed on top of one another. Last, glue white papers onto black background. Example of front white paper and background white paper. Below is what they look like when placed on top of one another. The little chairs looked so cute on the book shelves in the classroom:) Thanks bunches Flamson 6th graders!

They are designed to be impulsive and fun, yet they are made to last and can be used occassion after occassion, and as a home decor statement. I care about your banner needs and my letters will not crease, bend, bleed, or worse yet tear. If you choose to hang it outside at a celebration, should the clouds come out, a little drizzle will not harm it. In other words, it's your party and you can cry if you want to, but it won't be over a wilting banner! ● I created the Fringe Banners in late 2010 and I am happy to say they are quite the hit! These banners have been seen in such awesome places as Lena Dunham's Not That Kind Of Girl book tour, and written up in super cool places like ROOKIE, Hello Giggles, New York Magazine's The Cut, Nylon Magazine Daily, and Martha Stewart's Wedding Blog! ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ 😎 A little insight into my design process and the Fringe Banner: ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ It may sound obvious, but all products from FUN CULT / Nice are my own original product. I am intuitive to and inspired by trends, but I do not create my pieces identical to trendy or commonly seen crafts. A lot of daydreaming, designing, and hard work go into creating each idea and FUN CULT piece. Certainly this contributes to the uniqueness and success of this handmade brand so far. I want my customers to be able to spot a FUN CULT piece when they see one, and you know what, it's happening! My ideas seem to come in spurts. I have a list and sketchbook that I keep on my tablet and phone, as well as a couple notebooks here and there. The list and sketches are endless! I’m very much inspired by the random things in life that become home decor. For example, a souvenir party favor you keep on your desk, a movie ticket that sits in your ring dish, or a favorite scarf that you prefer to keep in view rather than tuck away. It's these things that really make a space your home and I like to think I create pieces that reflect, and easily fit into, such an effortlessly cool aesthetic. For years (I'm talking since like 2002! During a brief electroclash phase!) I had a bit of pink fringe that I liked so much but couldn't quite figure out how I wanted to use. Eventually I pulled it back out and decided to tack it up on my wall. Soon afterward the idea to create a banner happened organically. I wanted it to look like a piece an artist may whip together simply to brighten their studio, at the same time calling to the old school party banners it draws from. Something delicate but fun, and keeping with the theme I've stuck by, a piece that is for special occasions as well as every day. The Fringe Banner is one of my most favorite products to date. ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ www.JOINFUNCULT.today join up for exclusive sales + promotions, 8tracks mixes, general fun, + all social media links. .............................................................................. I am offering 2 Take A Seat by Raine RESIN chairs. The original chairs were in the bedroom of of Edith Vanderbilt. They were designed after French King Louis XIV era chairs. The original Vanderbilt chairs had a white wood frame and cabriole legs and claw feet. The upholstery was made of gold and purple velvet and satin fabrics. The chairs were said to be Mrs. Vanderbilts favorite chairs. The chairs were intricately carved hada curving profile and floral motifs. Mrs. Vanderbilt liked the chairs so much she had her wall made to match with silk fabric. The replica chairs were made in the year 2000 by Willitts Designs. One chair is on display in the Biltmore Estate home. Both of these chairs would be and asset to a dollhouse, room box scene, part of a collection of miniature historic furniture or as a lovely gift for a collector. Each chair measures 5.5 x 2.5 x 2 inches. Please be aware that the chairs are made of RESIN which is a painted hard substance. I have sold many resin pieces and some have been returned because the buyer did not know what Resin is. I am convinced the only way to get an almost perfect chair or sofa is through the use of resin.

We’re in a season when being a campus leader is challenging. I don’t know about you, but these days, I’m about less and not more. The idea of ‘leading’ sounds like a lot and who wants to be overwhelmed right? When I was asked to chair my team this year–for the first time in 25...Read More »
