These lifelike paper moths are printed double-sided on heavy-weight shimmer paper, and are expertly laser cut with a precise level of detail. They are based on real specimens, and accurately depict their size and coloration as closely as possible. The ‘Memento Mori’ Death Head Moth 3 Pack Set includes three different specimens: 1 African Death’s-Head Hawkmoth (Acherontia atropos) 5" 1 Lesser Death’s-Head Hawkmoth (Acherontia styx) 4.5” 1 'Bee Robber' Death’s-Head Hawkmoth (Acherontia lachesis) 4” Paper specimens are packaged flat, and are lightly adhered to a beautiful card backing. Gently remove them from the backing, and use your fingers to curl the paper slightly to give them a realistic appearance!
North Carolina-based artist Yumi Okita (previously) layers hand-painted fabric, embroidery thread, feathers, and faux fur to create large sculptures of insects. Each handmade moth and butterfly is one-of-a-kind, with coloration and patterning often inspired by existing species. Okita’s fiber sculptures are designed to be hung from wires or displayed as free-standing works. The fabric wings on the insects measure up to 9.5 inches wide, while the furry creatures stand an impressive 3.5 to 4.5 inches tall. More
With an introduction by Neil Gaiman Before television and radio, before penny paperbacks and mass literacy, people would gather on porches, on the steps outside their homes, and tell stories. The storytellers knew their craft and bewitched listeners would sit and listen long into the night as moths flitted around overhead. The Moth is a non-profit group that is trying to recapture this lost art, helping storytellers - old hands and novices alike - hone their stories before playing to packed crowds at sold-out live events. The very best of these stories are collected here: whether it's Bill Clinton's hell-raising press secretary or a leading geneticist with a family secret; a doctor whisked away by nuns to Mother Teresa's bedside or a film director saving her father's Chinatown store from money-grabbing developers; the Sultan of Brunei's concubine or a friend of Hemingway's who accidentally talks himself into a role as a substitute bullfighter, these eccentric, pitch-perfect stories - all, amazingly, true - range from the poignant to the downright hilarious.
